Egypt sees 61% growth in private car sales during 5M 2021
Truck sales increased by 64% to 20,200 units in 5M 2021, compared to 12,500 in same period last year

rivate car sales in Egypt have recorded a growth of 61% in the first five months (5M) of 2021, recording sales of 81,900 units, according to the Automotive Market Information Council (AMIC).
In a report by the council, it revealed that the latest figure compares to the 50,900 units sold during the same period in 2020. The report also said that Egypt’s total auto sales recorded a growth of 51.7%, reaching 112,204 vehicles during the first five months of the year, compared to about 73,966 units during the corresponding period of 2020.
Moreover, truck sales increased by 64% to reach 20,200 between January to May 2021, compared to 12,500 trucks in the same period a year earlier. Meanwhile, bus sales decreased by 7.8% to 9,600 units, compared to 10,400 units in 2021.
AMIC also revealed that locally assembled car sales increased by 56.9% in 5M of 2021, to reach 21,663 cars, compared to 13,804 cars last year.
Sales of imported cars increased by 62.4%, as their sales during 5M of 2021 amounted to 60,329 cars, compared to 37,150 cars in 2020.
Chevrolet topped the sales of locally assembled cars during the reported time period of 2021, as it managed to increase its market share to 18.9%, with a total sale of 21,200 vehicles during the period.
Nissan came in second place on the list of the best-selling brands, recording a market share of 10.1% and selling 11,300 vehicles, followed by Toyota in third place with a share of 9.9% and 11,096 vehicles in sales.
On the other hand, Hyundai rose to fourth place after grabbing a market share of 9.7%, selling 10,800 vehicles, followed by MG in fifth place with a share of 8.3% with a total sale of 9,200 units.
