everal students in the Mathematics division taking this year’s Thanaweyya Amma (high-school leaving) exams have complained about the difficulty of the Statics exam.
The students noted that the applied mathematics exam consisted of 25 questions, most of which were indirect and required a long time to be answered.
They also pointed out that the exam questions require deep understanding and thinking, adding that the exams is not for normal students, especially as several of the questions were ambiguous.
About 100,435 students from the mathematical division took the Statics exam, while 292,428 students from the scientific division took the Biology exam.
Several students were found to be involved in leaking the questions from both the Statics and Biology exams using the Telegram application as well as other social media platforms.
The circulating pictures showed that they had been taken from inside the exam committees, while hiding the barcode written on the question paper.
Only 25 minutes after the start of the Biology exam, the Ministry of Education and Technical Education’s Central Operations Room immediately tracked the student responsible for photocopying and publishing the leaked parts on the internet, using a hacked tablet.
The Thanaweyya Amma exams started on 10 July, with about 649,000 students taking this year’s exams amid strict precautionary measures against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The Ministry of Education and Technical Education confirmed that the correction of exams will take place electronically, with the results to be announced 10 days after the end of exams on 2 August.
