Egypt-UK trade exchange records $1.2bn in H1 2021: CAPMAS

The volume of trade exchange between Egypt and the UK increased by 7.3% to $1.2bn during the first half of 2021 (H1 2021), up from $1.1bn in the same period a year earlier. 

Data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) reveals that Egyptian exports to the UK increased by 52.2% to $591.1m in H1 2021, compared to $388.5m in H1 2020.

On the other hand, the value of Egyptian imports from the UK decreased by 16.4% to $615.9m in the same period, down from $736.5m a year earlier.

The value of remittances from Egyptians working in the United Kingdom recorded $489.2m in fiscal year (FY) 2019/20, compared to $365.4m in FY 2018/19, an increase of 33.9%.

Meanwhile, the value of remittances from the British nationals working in Egypt increased by 23% to $71m in FY 2019/20, up from $57.7m a year earlier.

According to CAPMAS, UK investments in Egypt decreased by 35.6% to $2.4bn in FY 2019/20, compared to $3.7bn in FY 2018/19.

The population of Egypt reached about 102.5 million in 2021, while the population of the United Kingdom recorded 68.2 million in 2021.
