The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has fined mobile companies operating in Egypt for exceeding the minimum standards of indicators of the quality of telecom services. The total fines amounted to about EGP 25m.

NTRA approved the establishment of 641 new mobile stations during the third quarter (Q3) of 2021, an increase of 62% compared to Q2 of 2021, as part of the new system to accelerate the procedures for establishing mobile stations, which positively affects the quality of telecommunication services provided in the Egyptian market.

According to a report issued by NTRA today, procedures have been started to cover 500 villages with 4G services within the national project for the development of Egyptian countryside, Decent Life, at an estimated cost of EGP 1.5bn, funded by the Universal Service Fund, and it is expected to be completed before mid-2022.

NTRA announced the addition of a new indicator for voice quality standards, which is the indicator of the time required to start a call, which resulted in an improvement in this indicator in general for the four companies; Vodafone, Orange, Etisalat, and We, where the average time required to start a call decreased by 27% in Q3 of 2021 compared to Q2 of 2021, reaching a maximum of about 8 seconds.
