gypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry — the President-designate of the 27th Conference of Parties (COP 27) — received a telephone call from Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Patricia Espinosa last week.
Ahmed Hafez, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Espinosa expressed her readiness and aspiration to work with Egypt and the minister in the coming period, leading up to the date of the conference, to ensure its success and to achieve positive results in favour of international action on climate issues at all levels.
Shoukry stressed the importance that Egypt attaches to hosting the conference and its leadership in the scope of the international climate in the coming period.
He added that Egypt intends to build on what was achieved during the last session of the conference in Glasgow and to work to exploit the growing international momentum in directing international efforts to confront climate change to move from the phase of pledges to the phase of actual implementation on the ground.
The two sides agreed to continue working and coordinating in the coming period at all levels to enhance international efforts in combating climate change and make the next session of the conference in Egypt a success.
