Viewing and understanding records
Clicking on a title in the results list will take you to the full, consolidated record. The full record includes more information about the title, such as publication details, language and format. The amount of information will depend on the content of the source records supplied by the contributing libraries which hold that title.
You can use the <  > buttons to move to the next or previous record in your results set. You can use the << and >> buttons to skip to the first or last record in your results set. The 'Back to results' button will take you back to the results list.
You can do a follow up search from the record display:
If the record contains an Author or other names, you can click on any name to run a search in Discover for other records containing that name.
If the record contains Related items, you can click on any title to run a search in Discover for other records for that title.
If a title is part of a Series, you can click on the series title to search for more works in that series.
If the record includes Subject keywords or terms, you can click on the terms to run a search in Discover for other records containing that subject.
If there is a book cover image for the title available, this will be displayed on the right.
The full, consolidated record is made up of information drawn from the original records of the different holding libraries. To view the original record of one of the holding libraries, including information such as local notes and copy notes, click on the name of the holding library in the 'Holding libraries' list. If there is only a single holding library then the consolidated record and the original record will be the same.
Online resources
Some materials are available online.
Where we know a document is Open Access you will see the Open Access lock icon. This means the record should include a link to a freely available copy of the document online. If there are multiple links, some may take you via a university web site and require a login, so look for a link direct to the document.
Access to some online materials is restricted to members of a university that has a subscription to the resource. If you think you should have access, look for a link in the record that takes you to the resource via your own institution's web site. If you can't see an appropriate link you will need to discuss access with your own library staff.
Where we can find a Google Books preview of the document you will see a link to Google Books beside the document cover image or placeholder, select this to view the available content on Google Books. Note: If you prefer not to have these links included, select the 'Disable Google Preview' link above the Google Books icon. Your preference will be remembered for future searches. You can enable the links again at any time.
Library holdings information
There are two ways of viewing library holdings information relating to a document:
Select the name of a library in the 'Holding libraries' list.
This takes you to the Holdings display which gives available location details and often includes live availability information, so you can check if an item is on loan.
Select the
'Summary holdings' heading, at the end of the record.
This is most useful for journals that are held in many libraries, allowing you to scan all the library holdings information available within Library Hub Discover for that document. But it will not show live holdings information, for this you need to check the individual library holdings display to see if there is additional information about volumes held. If you wish, you can close the summary holdings table by selecting the
'Summary holdings' heading again.
