Emran Mian CB OBE (born 1978), who writes under the pen name Kamran Nazeer, is a British Pakistani author and civil servant.[1][2]
Life and career edit
Nazeer was born as Emran Mian in Glasgow, and was diagnosed with autism at the age of four.[3] He studied law in Glasgow, but after deciding not to become a lawyer, he then went to Corpus Christi College, Cambridge for his PhD and finally joined the British civil service as a policy adviser in Whitehall.[4][5] He now lives in London with his French wife. He is currently director-general of regeneration in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.
His first book, Send In the Idiots: Stories From the Other Side of Autism, was published in March 2006 under his penname.[3] He is also a frequent contributor to Prospect magazine.[6]
Awards and nominations edit
Mian was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2011 Birthday Honours[7] and Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) in the 2023 Birthday Honours for services to regeneration.[8]
In January 2014, Mian was nominated for the Civil Servant of the Year award at the British Muslim Awards.[9]
