It is ultimately derived from Middle Persian Pērōz (Inscriptional Pahlavi: 𐭯𐭩𐭫𐭥𐭰, Book Pahlavi: pyrwc), meaning "victorious, triumphant or prosperous",[1] mentioned as Perozes (Περόζης) in Latin and Greek sources.
