Summary

Description
English: This Hoffman Continuous Kiln on Featherston Street, Palmerston North, was built around 1904 by Robert Price Edwards. It consists of 14 chambers accessed though "wicket" openings on the side. Bricks could be stacked in one chamber while others were firing, and it took a week for the fire to travel around all 14 chambers. At its peak the kiln was producing 60,000 bricks a week. It was last fired in 1959. A protection order was placed on the site in 1984 and the building has been restored by the community. It is a Category 1 Historic Place on the Heritage New Zealand list, number 194.
