He received a bachelor's degree in political science from the [[The American University]] in [[Cairo]], then a master's degree in political science from the American [[Kansas State University]], then a master's degree in economics from the [[University of Missouri]], USA, then a doctorate in political philosophy from the University of Missouri also in 1977.
 
Qasim worked at the [[University of Jordan]] with the rank of assistant professor in 1978 and his services were terminated after a year and a half (in 1979) for political reasons, following the Israeli invasion of southern Lebanon. He worked as a professor of political science at [[An-Najah National University]] in Nablus since 1980, and he worked as a part-time professor at each university,<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/6-author/abdul-sattar-qassem/|title=Abdul Sattar Qassem|date=January 8, 2014|website=Middle East Monitor}}</ref> [[Birzeit University]] and [[Al-Quds University]].
