The current Federal Minister of Finance in 2021 is Olaf Scholz and he is responsible for all areas of German tax and fiscal policy and determines the broad outline of budgetary policy. The policy course that set by the Federal Chancellor is followed by The Finance Minister to manage the Finance Ministry. As the member of government he or she is responsible for all aspects of Germany’s tax, fiscal and budgetary policy. Expert assistance is provided by Ministry’s ten directorates-general to the Minister in helping him in fulfilling his tasks and functions. The Ministry’s senior leadership also includes four permanent state secretaries who are tasked with coordinating the activities of the directorates-general, which are responsible for implementing and development of the legislation. He is also supported by two parliamentary state secretaries. The parliamentary state secretaries are also members of the Bundestag and therefore help to ensure flow of information between the Parliament and the Ministry. The directorates-general encompass up to four directorates, each of which is made up of various sections. A typical section consists of a team of public service employees and civil servants including a section’s head, administrative officers, and assistants and policy officers.
