There are two trails, one that is self guided, and is not that difficult to maneuver for most healthy adults (El Crater). The other, El Puma, is only led by a guide and is very difficult. Mombacho is an active volcano but the last eruption occurred in 1570. There is no historical knowledge of earlier eruptions.
