==History==
Aldershot has been a centre for the British Army since the mid-Nineteenth Century. This has been reflected in the use of Aldershot as a headquarters for a variety of regional commands over the last 100 years. In WWI there was an HQ Aldershot Command, which continued in existence until c. February 1941, when it was replaced by HQ Aldershot Area. This heralded a period of frequent change, during which there was an HQ Aldershot District (1942-1945) and an HQ Aldershot and Hampshire District (1945-1948). In April 1948 this HQ was re-designated again and became HQ Aldershot District at Steeles Rd in Stanhope Lines; and remained so until April 1968.
The re-organisation of the command structure in the UK in 1968 saw the creation of larger District areas and a new, HQ South East District (also based at Steeles Road) was formed containing a number of Garrisons, including HQ Aldershot Garrison.
In 1992 a new Southern District was formed, uniting the former South East and South West Districts. This new District was split into four peacetime administrative areas, which included HQ Aldershot Area (covering the counties of Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire). This HQ Area would subsequently become HQ 145 (Home Counties) Brigade.
