'''Diriangen''' was the legendary tribal leader of the [[Chorotega]]s who can rightfully be called the first resistance fighter of the [[Nicaragua]]. He fought against the Spanish in the 1520s, keeping them at bay for a time. Part of his legacy can be seen in the words from the famous folk song Nicaragua, Nicaraguita where the words are as follows:

Ay Nicaragua, Nicaraguita, el pais mas lindo de mi querer,
abonada con la bendita, Nicaraguita, sangre de Diriagen.

Oh Nicaragua, Nicaraguita, the most beautiful country of my love,
Paid for, Nicaraguita, with the blessed blood of Diriangen.
