CalhounCalhoun (disambiguation)John C. Calhoun is the clear primary topic for "Calhoun" - pretty much every place here is named after him, and it's not like any of them have become that significant in their own right (for what it's worth, Calhoun gets about ten views per day, John C. Calhoun about 1000, and Calhoun, Georgia, the most populous city actually named Calhoun here - only about 100). It's very likely anyone arriving here is looking for information on John C. Calhoun. • Support per nomination. Unlike Henry Clay and Daniel Webster whose surnames are too common in the English-speaking world for use as redirects to them, "Calhoun" has little to no competition for the name and basically refers to John C. in the same manner as "Gladstone" overcomes the competition from the various places named after him and basically refers to William Ewart. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 01:42, 17 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose Calhoun (surname) includes other notable people with this surname. While John C. Calhoun is the most notable, a primary redirect does not seem justified. 162 etc. (talk) 15:39, 17 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
See pageviews, John C. Calhoun is short of a majority. 162 etc. (talk) 15:47, 17 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Are there any that even compete for the primary topic, though? From a Google search for "Calhoun" the next one I found was Kole Calhoun, who gets maybe 100 per day - not exactly beating the historical significance of John C. Elli (talk | contribs) 15:50, 17 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
The historical significance of John C. Calhoun is highest, but that doesn't mean that Calhoun should be a primary redirect. Well-known politicians like Thatcher or Deng also have their surnames point to dab pages. 162 etc. (talk) 17:41, 17 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
thatcher is also just a somewhat common word with a meaning outside of being a surname. Calhoun really isn't. Without additional context, if someone mentions "Calhoun", they are either talking about John C., or a place named after him. Elli (talk |contribs) 17:46, 17 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Or one of the forty-four other people and characters at Calhoun (surname), which combined get more clicks than John C. Calhoun. 162 etc. (talk) 17:53, 17 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
