László Báthory edit

Dear @Evrik:, the correct spelling of his name is László Báthory, the sources of this article confirm this and even the Hungarian version of page, which you had translated to English. I think my edit was an uncontroversial, only technical move. --Norden1990 (talk) 17:26, 9 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • I specifically named the article as I did because it falls within WP:ENGLISH. Go ahead and start a name change request of you feels strongly about this. --evrik (talk) 00:25, 10 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
I think you misunderstand WP:English. This is an encyclopedia and not an English language news portal. We should use accents that are not used in English, see for instance, Nguyễn Văn Thiệu, Honoré de Balzac, Andrés Manuel López Obrador or Kåre Willoch. --Norden1990 (talk) 07:27, 10 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Laszlo BathoryLászló Báthory – This is the correct spelling of his name. He was born in Hungary, and also became known for his activities there, and died in Hungary too. László is a Hungarian variant of Vladislav, while Báthory family was a prominent noble family in Hungary (it is conceivable that there is only a name relationship, but because of his studies abroad he is likely to be a member of the family). Scholar works (he is relatively unknown outside Hungary), also use the name with accents, [1], [2], [3], [4]. His name had different forms (Báthory, Bátori and Báthori), but each uses accents. For the same reason, I also request to rename its derivative article Bathory Cave to Báthory Cave. Norden1990 (talk) 07:39, 10 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • The cave nomination should not be included here as it is a separate article. --evrik (talk) 17:18, 10 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
OK, I requested another move on the proper talkpage. --Norden1990 (talk) 18:27, 10 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • Uncontroversial, support same with all Hungarian bios and geos. In ictu oculi (talk) 17:00, 10 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose the article is appropriately named per Wikipedia:ENGLISH. The citations above are in Hungarian. A simple google search will show that the name exists without the accents or other diacritics.--evrik (talk) 17:18, 10 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • I figure that if Sauli Niinistö were to be requested to move to Sauli Niinisto, the discussion would end up as "not moved" pretty quickly. "Niinistö" is the accepted name regardless of the language. JIP | Talk 18:32, 13 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • Sauli Niinisto is the default English spelling. --evrik (talk) 19:28, 13 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

The chronology seems wrong. edit

The article says he was born in 1420, and both served in a military campaign and completed university studies before beginning his hermitage at 17 years old in 1437. Either he was an extremely precocious youth, or some of the dates are wrong. --98.22.93.131 (talk) 18:45, 17 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
