New diagram edit

The recently added diagram of concentric circles with phonetics in the centre surely needs a citation to support it, or must otherwise be considered OR? RoachPeter (talk) 14:12, 31 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, RoachPeter (talk · contribs)!
If you go to the image page on Wikimedia commons for File:Major levels of linguistic structure.svg, its source field cites the book it's from.
I was following the guidance on Wikipedia:Image_citation to only include the citation details of an image on the image's file page, rather than in the article itself.
Thanks!

Thanks, I didn't know of that WP guidance. RoachPeter (talk) 09:12, 1 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Relationship between phonology and phonetics edit

@Nardog: I mean look at the very first image on this page (actually in the discussion section above too). Perhaps we can at least discuss the relationship between the two concepts; I'm aware the relationship can be fraught, but ignoring it altogether could mislead newcomers who don't know if they're really looking for one or the other. I can do some source digging to see what I'd find, if that'd help. Wolfdog (talk) 16:05, 18 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Huh? That image is not claiming that phonetics is "sometimes considered a sub-branch within phonology", nor am I familiar with anyone taking such a position. Nardog (talk) 01:37, 19 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Actually, the more I look at the image the weirder it seems! What's it's purpose?? Anyway, I'm fine with the amended hatnote now. Thanks. Sorry for the confusion; I was thinking of phonology versus phonemics (not phonetics) while half-distracted. Wolfdog (talk) 03:18, 19 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
