The result of the move request was: Moved Sporting Club LyonLyon La Duchère and SC LyonSC Lyon (ice hockey) per nom. I'll redirect SC Lyon to Lyon La Duchère, although it's an independent editorial decision. No such user (talk) 12:53, 8 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

– I suggest we move this article to SC Lyon because this appears to be one of the common names for the club, and because this is the standard way we name football articles. I also suggest that the current SC Lyon page is moved to SC Lyon (ice hockey), because it's much less important and most likely gets way less visits than the Sporting Club Lyon article. • Support per nom, the football club is primary.--Ortizesp (talk) 22:09, 3 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Support now that reliable sources have adopted this common name. Gricehead (talk) 08:44, 4 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • Support per nom, football club is PRIMARY and this is the COMMONNAME. GiantSnowman 08:57, 4 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per nom and add hatnote to article for hockey team. Will need fixing of links for hockey team that currently direct to current name. RedPatch (talk) 21:55, 4 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Note of the six article space links to the hockey team, four of them should link to the football team anyway, so will be fine once the above moves are completed. Only Ligue Magnus and Club des Patineurs de Paris actually need links changing. Gricehead (talk) 08:07, 5 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Support a current football team is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC rather than a short lived hockey team. As mentioned above, there are only a couple of mainspace links that need fixing (as most of the links are intended for the football team anyway). Joseph2302 (talk) 08:30, 5 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Break edit

In which case I suggest the following moves:
And then turn the SC Lyon page into a disambiguation page. SC Lyon (football) should then redirect to wherever the club ends up. GiantSnowman 14:19, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
That sounds good. But perhaps SC Lyon could redirect to Lyon La Duchère, and then we would leave a {{redirect}} template at the top? Paul Vaurie (talk) 14:21, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • {ec} Support GS's new suggestion. It's interesting this was never closed due to initial unanimous consensus, but I guess it worked out better that it didn't. RedPatch (talk) 14:23, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'd leave it both with disambiguators. Neither has very many article redirect links. The football club links from 111 articles, but the vast majority of those come from the Championnat National template box at the bottom. As the new name gains popularity, it will become even less primary. RedPatch (talk) 14:27, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Exactly my thinking. GiantSnowman 14:36, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Support GS's new suggestion.--Ortizesp (talk) 14:44, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Support GS's suggestion. I doubt SC Lyon as a name will be remembered long or fondly, given the season they had. Gricehead (talk) 14:52, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Support both of the new moves, though I would have SC Lyon redirect to the football club (as that was established as the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC in the above, now superceded, section). Joseph2302 (talk) 15:02, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
I don't think it's that primary. They were only known as SC Lyon for one season and are now reverting back to the original name. Had they been SC Lyon for an extended period then I'd agree, but they were known as "Lyon Duchère" from 1964-2020, then SC Lyon for 20-21, then back to "Lyon Duchère" from 2021-future. It's such a minimal time period for a low tier club that I don't feel earns it primary status for the rest of time. RedPatch (talk) 15:36, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Support Seems fine with me, I read the French cite you gave, it sounds more of a rebranding. Govvy (talk) 16:35, 28 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
