– as per WP:COMMONNAME Abo Yemen 09:43, 29 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

I have combined these requests per WP:RMPM. These were originally posted as technical requests, before being quickly opened as requested moves. SilverLocust 💬 11:04, 29 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Oppose - WP:COMMONNAME is not case enough to move an article when the proposed title is potentially ambiguous. It has to be proven that the article is also the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC before it can be moved. estar8806 (talk) 14:15, 29 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Almost every page about a city only has the city name without the ", (country/region name)" but if someone wants to search about a basin then they'll probably add the word "basin" after the basin name. also according to the google trends chart, the town of tarim gets the most searches Abo Yemen 10:37, 30 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose no primary In ictu oculi (talk) 15:48, 29 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
the Tarim, Hadhramaut page is the primary topic Abo Yemen 10:28, 30 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment Should the article not be moved to the primary topic, Tarim, Yemen is the proper title, per WP:PLACEDAB. The Tarim, Hadhramaut seems to have been created as a cut and paste move. 162 etc. (talk) 16:21, 29 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
@162 etc. Thanks for pointing that out. I agree with that move. Should we tag this article for a WP:HISTMERGE in the meanwhile? estar8806 (talk) 01:23, 30 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • https://wikinav.toolforge.org/?language=en&title=Tarim indicates a pattern of readers looking both for the basin and the city, and the numbers are only 21, 19 and a total of 94, so I think we need a much stronger rationale to make any changes. --Joy (talk) 08:39, 30 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
    see the google trends chart[1] Abo Yemen 10:40, 30 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
What I read from that chart is that the town had a claim to being primary topic by usage up to a couple years ago, and now it does not. Hence, it was a case of WP:Recentism? --Joy (talk) 10:53, 30 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
It is still more searched than the basin Abo Yemen 11:08, 30 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
That may well be so, but Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a commercial search engine, and its criteria for how navigation is supposed to work for the average reader are not identical as theirs. --Joy (talk) 14:30, 30 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes but you do realize that whenever someone searches for something in a search engine, almost everytime the first result is a page from wikipedia Abo Yemen 14:41, 30 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
This is a clear case of WP:NOPRIMARY. Out of all pages listed on the Tarim dab page, none have a strong enough case to be th eprimarytopic by pageviews [2]. Google Trends show the same [3] (the original google trends you provided compared a search term to a result, and the result would always be more common in that). Finally, Google ngrams also do not support this article as the ptopic [4]. estar8806 (talk) 16:53, 30 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
atleast move the Tarim page to Tarim (disambiguation) and make the Tarim page the redirect? Abo Yemen 16:58, 30 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
That would still treat one article as a primary topic (or rather primary redirect) which is not supported by the sources. estar8806 (talk) 17:19, 30 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Alright how about Tarim, Hadhramaut → Tarim (Town) Abo Yemen 17:29, 30 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
