Not second oldest University

"It was the second university in South Africa (after Cape Town) and the first tertiary educational facility open to Africans in the whole of the continent."

Is this statement neccessary

Firstly it may be false -> Fort Hare has obtained a high national order and an additional campus in a large settlement. Secondly it serves no purpose and is weaselled.

But there is no evidence of a "fall from glory" -> there has certainly been changes to its identity - although the move concerns the transition from the "national university" of a buntustan to a South African University.

I've modified the offending provisions (still not particularly happy with it), Im a little bit concerned though that there still seems to be a "Fort Hare isn't really a University" sentiment in the article. It would probably be a good thing if some Fort Hare alumni would take a day off public office and fix up this article a bit.

Lovedale College

Im not unfortunately sure of the exact relationship between Fort Hare and Lovedale College (or between Fort Hare and Rhodes) but am pretty sure that some form of mention is needs to be made. All and all my frustration has lead me to send off the following email to the University, I really hope they respond - I think it will be good for Wiki and the University:

To whom it may concern

The English Wikipedia is an online Encyclopaedia which any person can edit and which has over a few years grown into a fairly useful internet resource. Because it is a free for all non-profit community driven venture some articles are better composed by persons more knowledgeble of the material of a particular article. I have discovered that the article composed on Fort Hare is somewhat lacking both in content and material, and thought I would bring this to the Universities attention, in the hope that some improvement could be made. The article should improve over time, but it will probably be greatly aided if a person highly knowledgable on the history of the institution is able to make an encyclopaedic (possibly a neologism) entry. I am quite sure that between the faculty, staff, students and alumni a most valuable contribution could be made. While on the subject of the wikipedia it is also available in other languages (most of which require a great deal of content).
