Usage edit

This template is intended to be placed on talk pages (such as the talk page of the creator or respective WikiProjects) to notify editors of a request for comment (RfC).

Use of this template is not mandatory, and it should not be used in all cases. In particular, WikiProjects generally do not need to be notified of routine, uncomplicated, or uncontroversial discussions for one or a few categories. Please note: This template must be substituted (always using the prefix "subst:").

Syntax edit

To notify the creator or individual editors of an RfC, replacing

PAGENAME of the topic of the RfC
DISCUSSION PAGE where the discussion on RfC is happening

A section heading will be created automatically on the user talk page.

Remember to sign and date your post by adding ~~~~ following the template code.

Stub templates edit

If the nomination is for a stub template, you can add |stub=yes to adjust the message text and links.

Optional parameters edit

The template supports two optional parameters:

wikiproject=yes: To notify the members of a wikiproject, this parameter replaces the text "which you created" with "which is within the scope of this wikiproject".

action=value: Any text specified in place of value, such as "deletion", "merging" or "renaming", replaces "discussion" with the user-specified text
