Avinash Collis edit

Hello, I am a doctoral candidate at the MIT Sloan School of Management specializing in the economics of digitization. I am part of the research team at the MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy.

In my current research, I am interested in measuring the economic surplus created by digital goods, especially free digital goods such as Google, Facebook and Wikipedia. Because users do not pay anything to access these goods, they are not properly captured in GDP statistics. For Wikipedia, I find that the median reader values it at around $150 per year. Check out my website to download copies of my research papers.

Currently I am working on an exciting project measuring the value created by Wikipedia to its editors. Check out the study here.
