I studied English, French and Human Movement Studies at university in the 1990s. Amongst other things, I've worked in the experiential education field, with young offenders in the South African criminal justice sector and as a sub-editor for a national newspaper group in South Africa. I am a keen photographer and have written a series of blogs highlighting my travels around the world since 2010.

Countries I've visited edit

I've been fortunate to have travelled extensively over the years. This is a list of countries I've visited or lived in, more or less in order (and does not include only airport visits!)

  I currently live here.
Just once on holiday as a teenager with my father.
Several times. Mostly just to buy things that were cheaper than in Belgium.
I lived here for a year as a teenager and have been back many times since.
I travelled extensively to France as a teenager, have returned many times, and studied French in the Alps as an adult.
  Several times.
Just once, with the girlfriend of my youth.
  Too many times to count.
One of my favourite places, although I only visited once.
Just once: I took a night train from Belgium, walked around the city for a day and then took the train back to Belgium that same evening.
  Just once. A bittersweet time.
Just once. Was too poor to afford accommodation. I slept on a park bench.
  Too many times to count.
Just once. Skiing with friends who didn't know how to ski.
I lived in Belgium on the border with the Netherlands and so I visited often.
Not enough times to make an impression.
A few times to camp, and a few times to gamble. :-)
Once. We hitchhiked from the South African border, up through Namibia and then back again.
Just once for a week, as I was passing through.
Just once for a week. And then for a couple of hours to a border town, by train from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
For three months. Took train trips and crazy road trips in dodgy vehicles. Swam in frigid rivers and explored almost untouched forests.
I worked in the eastern highlands and have visited often since.
Drove to Malawi from South Africa at least half a dozen times on missionary trips.
Have been to Mozambique almost as many times as I have had hot breakfasts.
Just once, on a missionary trip.
Visited Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam once, paddled and dived in the clear waters and wandered the crowded streets of Stone Town.
Just once. Spent two weeks exploring the Sunshine Coast.
I visited many times, lived there for two years and then visited many times again. It's like my second home!
I visited Nepal for two months to assist in earthquake relief operations in 2015.
I was stuck here for a day once when a flight was cancelled. Lovely hotel. That's about all I saw.
I lived there for a couple of years, and have visited several times since.
Just once, on a missionary trip.
I have visited mostly the Pacific Northwest many times. A place I feel at home.
