July 2013 edit

Well it's been a long while since I was around here regularly, as RL got in the way. I've missed WP greatly during my absence, and hope to be able to spend some quality time here again. I have noticed that while I was away, WP has added some shiny new toys; I'll try not to break anything while I get back up to speed.

As always, I look forward to helping ...

Who Is Wine Guy? edit

I am Wine Guy. The name Wine Guy comes from my previous vocation as a Sommelier. Sometimes, people in restaurants don't know the correct term, so they ask for 'the wine guy'. I liked it, finding it less stuffy. Unfortunately, it seems that this is not the ideal profession for an alcoholic. Who would've guessed? Having given up my former life as a professional drinker and getting sober, I'm currently in a "career transition". (Yes, that's a euphemism for "unemployed".) At present—when I'm not trying to find someone to pay me to do something—I am brushing up on my programming skills (HTML, CSS, PHP, Python etc.) with the hope that I will eventually find gainful employment as a Web Designer/Developer.

I am a conservatory educated musician. While my main study was in orchestral percussion and timpani, I also studied voice with a particular concentration in early and baroque music.

I am a lifelong Episcopalian. Being an active member of the church, and a professional singer have gone together well. Being an Episcopalian, as well as an Anglophile has led me to join the WikiProject on Anglicanism.

As an avid sports fan, I also have a tendency to spend time working on sport articles. During Olympic years, I lend a hand to the Olympics WikiProject, particularly in the area of US Team biographies.

Currently, I reside in the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts. I grew up near Chicago, and have lived in New York City, and the West Country of England (in Wells, Somerset to be exact.)

I do some RC patrol using Twinkle, Lupin's Anti-Vandal Tool and igloo (when it's working–hopefully again soon). From time to time I do work at the Graphics Lab, in the hope that I can improve my skills with GIMP and Inkscape by improving images for WP (and Commons). You will also notice my name popping up at places like AfD, Sockpuppet investigations, RFCs and various other places where I feel I can make a constructive contribution. Suggestions are always welcome.

This space seemed a bit blank, so here's a pretty picture of my former home.

Yes, I really lived in one of those houses; and yes they do have indoor plumbing.

Est omnino difficile iudicare inclusionis meritum cuiusdam rei in encyclopædia cum ratio sciendi quid populi referat incerta sit, sed nihilominus aliquid encyclopædiam dedecet

It is generally difficult to judge the worthiness of a particular topic for inclusion in an encyclopedia considering that there is no certain way to know what interests people, but some topics nevertheless are not fit for an encyclopedia.

This motto reflects the desire of these Wikipedians to be reluctant, but not entirely unwilling, to remove articles from Wikipedia.
