Stage 3 players for Glasgow Warriors edit

Scottish Rugby haven't assigned the Stage 3 players to the pro teams so factually (by wiki rules) we can't write that. btw - good work on filling the rest of the info out.

--- I saw them in the line-up but no official comms has come out saying they are in the squad or aligned. They're not even on the team page on the official site. Ali Price will get games this year so it's strange he's not listed. Maybe have section "Stage 3 Academy players that have played for Warriors"? and add them as and when they play a league game. Can't really do it for a friendly.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited George Ritchie (rugby union, born 1848), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Kelso. North and Midlands edit

Hi, good to see another Scottish districts article up and running. Would you say the North & Midlands team is the same as the "North of Scotland" teams which played touring sides earlier in the 20th century (e.g. the 1931-32 South Africa side)? I'm looking to put some links to the article in and wondering if its reasonable to link from that team to the new article? --Bcp67 (talk) 16:44, 20 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

No, I'm pretty sure North of Scotland District team merged with the Midlands District to form North and Midlands. Not sure of the date though. Aedis1 (talk) 16:48, 20 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Interesting stuff on the N & M team on the 1973 tour talk page - thank you for making such a comprehensive and detailed reply to my thoughts - clearly a subject you've got an excellent knowledge of. My main interest here in rugby terms is the amateur era, which isn't particularly well-documented, and the old tours and representative teams are a long-standing interest. Keep up your exellent work!! --Bcp67 (talk) 07:38, 26 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of East of Scotland District (rugby union) edit

Hello, Aedis1, and thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia!

I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you worked on, East of Scotland District (rugby union), for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

It helps to explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the Help Desk. Thanks again for contributing! --Cavarrone 17:13, 10 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of The Greenyards edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on The Greenyards requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://canmore.org.uk/site/304624/melrose-high-street-greenyards-melrose-rugby-football-ground. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. George Turner edit

Please stop copy and pasting content, a move has been requested that will retain the edit history. Drchriswilliams (talk) 21:00, 27 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

The standard format in wikipedia for rugby union players that have been named elsewhere is to put a (rugby union) identifier after the name. (rugby player) is normally only used for players who play dual code. Turner should named as (rugby union) not (rugby player). The rugby player identifier should be the redirect NOT the other way round. In addition the arrow sign is used to specify a loan not (loan) in the infobox. Aedis1 (talk) 21:04, 27 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Yes, but please wait for someone to move the page (I have requested that this be done). Copy and pasting content is not the way to achieve this. Drchriswilliams (talk) 21:06, 27 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
You replied on my talk page, even though I said I had replied to you here. You said "I was moving the page. The redirect was to be (rugby player)." I have repeatedly tried to tell you that you are not doing this in an appropriate way. The page needs to be moved, not using copy-paste. You could start by looking at WP:MOVE if you aren't familiar with this process. Drchriswilliams (talk) 21:15, 27 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
You will see that George Turner (rugby union) now has the right edit history going back to October 2015 when the article was created. Drchriswilliams (talk) 21:26, 27 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Phil Healey edit

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Proposed deletion of Ollie Smith (rugby union) edit

The article Ollie Smith (rugby union) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Use of logos on season articles edit

Greetings! I've removed the instances of File:Glasgow Warriors logo.svg that you added to the various season articles of this team. Unfortunately, per terms of WP:NFC#UUI #17, we don't permit the use of sports logos in this way in adding them to various seasons of the team when the sports logo is non-free. Also, when you add a non-free image to any article, it is required that a new rationale be added to the image's description page for each use. This is per policy at WP:NFCC #10c. More information on adding a rationale can be found at Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline. If you have questions about this, let me know. --Hammersoft (talk) 02:14, 28 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

I've reverted your edit to the article where you have formatted the refs using reFill. A really informative article, but the references are bare urls to the British Newspaper Archive. It would be far more informative if the publication, date and title were added to the refs.

Proposed deletion of Stirling HSFP edit

The article Stirling HSFP has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not enough in-depth coverage to meet WP:GNG.

Aberfeldy RFC edit

Many of the references in Aberfeldy RFC (and other of your rugby club articles) are, I'm sorry to say, rubbish.) Taking ref 9 as an example, you provide a refernce of https://www.facebook.com/login/?next=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FAberfeldyRFC%2Fposts%2F3927346117375377 with an anchor of "log into facebook". Can you really not see that that is the very poorest ref imaginable? Where else on WP do you see such bad refs? At best you should be pointing to https://www.facebook.com/AberfeldyRFC/posts/3927346117375377 and with a suitable anchor.

Refs 1, 2 & 3 - again, all useless. They take me to a login page. I'm unsure if the key in the URL points to a page, or not. The anchor for the ref tells me nothing at all about the source - presumably an identifiable newspaper with a name, a date, a story title, which could form part of the ref citation?

Please do better. Your rugby club articles are great. Your referencing style and content is absolutely useless. --Tagishsimon (talk) 13:03, 18 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Happy to use bare urls. Although I then get asked to use tools like Refill to cite instead. So I use Refill and it messes with all my links. Damned if I do, damned if I don't. Aedis1 (talk) 14:23, 18 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
No, not damned if you do &c. Use appropriate URLs. Use appropriate citation templates. Take Crieff and Strathearn RFC, for instance. Bare URLs, but appropriate URLs. Why are they not presented within {{cite web}} or perhaps better {{cite news}}? It's possible to do the right thing. You're merely choosing to do the wrong thing as if you had no other choice. You do have a choice. Put appropriate URLs within appropriate citation templates. --Tagishsimon (talk) 00:33, 28 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Aedis1, I have to agree with @Tagishsimon. I am working on a big cleanup of WP:Bare URLs, and I have found lots of articles created by you which are full of bare URLs. See e.g. 1906–07 Scottish Districts season and many other pages in Category:Scottish Districts seasons which have bare URL refs to the British Newspaper Archive.
References are most easily filled in by the editor who adds them, because they have source visible in front of them. please try to fill them in as you go, rather than leaving them for others to clean up after you. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 22:43, 12 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi there - Wikipedia relies on reliable sources to verify information, especially about living people. You didn't provide a source for your changes to the Robert Walker (Third Lanark footballer) article, and I couldn't find one either. If you have a reliable source please let me know and we can change the article. Please let me know if you have any questions. GiantSnowman 11:10, 19 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

No problem. The source is based on information from ancestry.co.uk https://www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/625130/person/160197248840/facts

The freemason information is also found on ancestry.co.uk

Aedis1 (talk) 11:16, 19 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Aedis1, two problems here;
  1. ancestry.co.uk is not a reliable source, so it shouldn't be used.
  2. the source should be cited in the article when you add the info.

Disambiguated articles edit

Hi, hope you don't mind a bit of friendly advice. If you've created a page with a disambiguated title, like Hugh Orr (rugby union), it's good practide to add a link to the article to somewhere where readers might land if they do a search for the name and find a different article. This is usually either a disambiguation page, or a primary topic article with a hatnote. If you have a look at a couple of edits I've done today you can see how it works. for David Brown and Hugh Orr (although I had to amend the hatnote). I pick up a lot of these from the rugby union new articles list and try to fix them, but easier of the article creator does it at the time. All the best. Charles Nimmo moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Charles Nimmo, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three, to be safe. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 12:01, 22 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Female artist categories edit

Hello @Aedis1! I saw that you created a few new categories for "female artists." However, the ones you created already exist over in Category:Women artists. So, just a heads-up that I have proposed delete for Category:British female artists in order to start getting that cleaned up. But thank you for your efforts to improve the coverage on women artists! --@Rynb99 Rynb99 (talk) 00:14, 22 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I saw that. Since the relevant male category is British male artists, its counterpoint should be British female artists. Either that or change British male artists to British men artists. Aedis1 (talk) 00:18, 22 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
