Christian Wiki edit
Hi,
Just wanted to let you know about a christianity wiki that was recently started and has now moved to it's own server. Because of your interest, I think you would be a valuable member of our team and I'd love to have your contributions.
We are just about ready to go live!
As soon as we finalize the CPOV policy, I think we're ready to "go public" with this project and invite the world! We can submit to DMOZ and Google and start getting some real active hits on that site.

Hi, Thanks for your edit of Court of Chivalry. I took out the category origninally, because I thought that it was a bit redundant to include it in both the Heraldry Category and the Heraldic Authority SUB-Category. Doesn't its inclusion in the Authorities subcat make the other cat unecessary. I'm not sure if I've seen a consensus on this, but that's how it seemed to me.--Eva db 13:53, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
- The way I understand it, heraldry-stub is an extra category, to indicate it's an entry that needs expansion. When the stub is expanded (eventually), the stub and heraldry-stub category would be removed, but the heraldry category would remain. --Aquarius Rising 14:45, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
A good point about the heraldry stub. I'm not sure I made myself clear, though. I was talking about the the Heraldic Authority SUB-Category. This is a subcategory within the heraldry category. It contains all of the heraldic articles that are directly related to the College of Arms. This includes Heralds, Pursuivants, and Kings of Arms mostly, but also the Earl Marshal and Court of Chivalry. I think that this ought to be a sufficient reference to the heraldic nature of the article. That's my opinion, though, and I'm open to suggestions.--Eva db 15:19, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
- Good points. Strictly speaking the Court of Chivalry isn't a heraldic authority like most of the others in that category as it doesn't grant arms; it deals with disputes regarding arms. That's why it's nice to have it placed in the Heraldy category, although it doesn't hurt to put it in the Heraldic Authority category as well. --Aquarius Rising 15:25, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

NEWSLETTER
Concordia is currently trying to relaunch. I, and all the members of the ex-council, wish to welcome new members to the group. We are a group who aim to promote remaining civil, in an environment where messages can easily be interpretated wrongly.
Help out now! edit
- Try and help people remain civil! Talk to them, and help them in any way possible. Do not be afraid to use the talk page.
- Give people the Civility Barnstar.
- Make and spread some Wikitokens so people know there are people to help if they want assistance.
- Add banners or logos to your userpage to show your support.
- Suggest some ideas! Add 'em to the talk page.
We are a community, so can only work though community contributions and support. It's the helping that counts.
Decision Making edit
The council expired one month ago, but due to the current position of the group the current council will remain until the position of the group can be assessed, and whether it would be sensible to keep Concordia going. For most decisions, however, it will be decided by all who choose to partake in discussions. I am trying to relaunch because of the vast amounts of new members we have received, demonstrating that the aims are supported.

re: this trifle -- apparently in the electronic age, the alternative spelling is falling into disrepute or some such. Though it's probably indicative of memory (canalized thinking, no doubt being a lifelong reader of old and dusty tomes of many kinds) that google suggested the spelling and the alias, but when prodded a bit did give a fair sized list of misspellings in your judgment. I suspect however there is just a hard core of old mariners like myself who remember that that spelling from their formative days, and then your theory of misspelling the term (If that is indeed 'possible at all' when 'correct spelling' is a matter of custom, not statuate, errr... Statute. Even Teddy Roosevelt's spelling reforms only had the authority of a executive directive, not even an executive order as things today are accounted.)
I'd even had this 'debate' as it were with someone else two years back. At that point, Merriam-Webster still listed it, but now that they're part of the O.E.D., it seems to have vanished. Or perhaps I had another reference dictionary on a different computer and it's bookmarks. Darn if I ever get any of mine anywhere close to having the same bag of references! 'Tis much worse now too, with checking pages in four browsers.
In any event, since there certainly is more than a few references to that, and there are certainly awkward terms like "Statuate of limitations" and "Statuate mile" (Alas more propaganda from mainly the ranks of my engineering professors and such. Likewise much used in Civil Engineering books in days of yore!) that need explained away, for search engine reasons if no other, and aging old fart like myself has to opine that perhaps the word should be in the article for the good of wikipedia... and the education of the young. (We oldsters are all to well aware of having our noses rubbed in changes daily that they occur with dreary regularity, alas!) I'm sure you're aware that a spelling has to be encountered a statistically significant number of occasions before the dictionary building lexicographers deign to add it. This one apparently fell out of common use. (Another thing to blame lawyers on, no doubt! <G>)
On your head let it be, but in nautical references and engineering tomes of old, one will certainly see statuate mile not this new-fangled misspelt version. (It can be fun, being a dinosaur! <g>) // FrankB 19:21, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Barnstar Mockery edit
On May 7th of this year, at 14:37, the user page User:Dr Spam (MD) was created. Within a period of 48 hours, User:Dr Spam (MD) had placed approximately 55 barnstars on user pages and user talk pages. Many recipients doubted the sincerity of the sentiments behind these barnstars, in part because of the comments placed by Dr Spam on the barnstars. A sampling of the reasons that Dr. Spam offered for presenting barnstars to editors:

Occasionally Dr. Spam's comments did appear sincere (if vague), but a review of the record indicates that sincere-appearing comments were generally generated during a massive cut-and-paste session. There were also many barnstars presented with no comments at all, and even more that User:Dr Spam (MD) presented without signing his name to indicate from whom the award was coming. And some barnstars, praising the editing skills of the recipient, were awarded to editors with one solitary edit to their name.
In response, once this pattern of apparent insincerity was established, a few experienced editors asked Dr. Spam to desist from barnstar spamming, in the belief that randomly awarding barnstars devalues the entire barnstar program. (Indeed, so random was the placement of barnstars, that some were even placed on wiki accounts that had not been active for over a year.) Dr. Spam has now stopped, presumably recognizing that his efforts were not appreciated by the majority of editors.
Most of the barnstars placed by Dr. Spam during his May campaign have been voluntarily removed by the editors on whose pages they were placed. You are receiving this notice because Dr. Spam's barnstar still remains on your page. If you feel that Dr. Spam's barnstar spamming was a form of mockery, you may choose to remove it yourself. But if the way this barnstar was "awarded" does not bother you, you are of course free to keep it on your page. After all, it is your page. This notification was simply for your information.
