Some stroopwafels for you! edit

  Just... enjoy   - DVdm (talk) 18:34, 1 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Mmmm, yummy! Thank you, DVdm! It made me happy that you gave me a rational number of them. They'll be a perfect cure for some recent irrational proposals.   CiaPan (talk) 21:33, 1 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Merge Sort article pseudo code examples rewritten in complicated fashion, I reverted back to prior state edit

A user with no Wiki account made major changes to the pseudocode examples, making them much more complicated. I reverted the pseudocode examples back to a prior state and suggested that user get a Wiki account. Rcgldr (talk) 16:03, 3 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Notice of ANI that mentions you in passing edit

Greetings, FYI I filed a request at WP:ANI titled "CIR-based community-imposed site ban re: RTG". In providing a basis for my request I mentioned you and your prior dealings with this editor. Your input at ANI is optional, i.e., invited but not specifically requested. Thanks for reading. NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 13:00, 3 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

You are now a pending changes reviewer! edit

Hi CiaPan! I've been running into you while patrolling logs and recent changes, and I happened to notice that you don't have the pending changes reviewer rights. I hope you don't mind, but I went through your contributions and I noticed that you're quite active in recent changes patrolling and that you consistently view and undo vandalism and bad faith disruption. I believe that the pending changes reviewer rights would be useful for you to have and that you'd make good use of the tools. Instead of having you formally request the rights at WP:PERM, I went ahead and just gave it to you. This user right allows you to review edits that are pending approval on pages currently under pending changes protection and either accept the edits to make them viewable by the general public, or decline and revert them.

Please keep these things in mind regarding the tool or when you're reviewing any pending changes:

  • A list of articles with pending edits awaiting review can be viewed at Special:PendingChanges.
  • A list of the articles currently under pending changes protection can be viewed at Special:StablePages.
  • Being granted and having these rights does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you (obviously).
  • You'll generally want to accept any pending changes that appear to be legitimate edits and are not blatant vandalism or disruption, and reject edits that are problematic or that you wouldn't accept yourself.
  • Never accept any pending changes that contain obvious and clear vandalism, blatant neutral point of view issues, copyright violations, or BLP violations.

Useful guidelines and pages for you to read:

I'm sure you'll do fine with the reviewer rights - it's a pretty straight-forward tool and it doesn't drastically change the interface that you're used to already. Nonetheless, please don't hesitate to leave me a message on my user talk page if you run into any questions, get stuck anywhere, or if you're not sure if you should accept or revert pending changes to a page - I'll be more than be happy to help you. If you no longer want the pending changes reviewer rights, let me know and I'll be happy to remove it for you. Thank you for helping to patrol recent changes and keep Wikipedia free of disruption and vandalism - it's a very thankless job to perform and I want you to know that it doesn't go unnoticed and that I appreciate it very much. Happy editing! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:50, 12 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, Oshwah! I've been given this right in pl-wiki in 2008 but didn't use it too often. I hope en-wiki rules do not differ much, so I won't have to learn too much now.
I used to patrol Recent changed at pl-wiki some time ago, but stopped it. I do not regularly look at RC at en-wiki, either. However, I watch WP:Reference Desk and Help desk, also the Teahouse and some sections of Village pump, so I find many questions and complaints there, which often lead me to fixing (and sometimes to reverting) faulty edits.
Sometimes I also jump into Category:Pages with* or Category:Articles with* to fix references, citations etc. and quite a big part of them turn out to result from disruptive edits. I think cleaning them up may look like I am an active RC patroller. :)
Meanwhile, I did my first change accept already   It was a simple but unformatted addition Special:Diff/988369182 in Ciara Bravo, which I also edited to fit the article structure. Thanks, once again, and happy editing! --CiaPan (talk) 21:47, 12 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
No problem! Well deserved! Yeah, it shouldn't be too bad. You just review and accept good-faith edits, and reject bad-faith edits, etc. You'll get used to it quick, but if you run into any questions, you know where to find me. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:18, 12 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

area of a circle edit

Hi! I'm sorry about yesterday. It took me a while to realize, that I can find the reasons for revert in my contributions section. I understand your decisions, and tagged my article with {cn}. I hope, that helps, and retry later.Gmac4247 (talk) 12:33, 3 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Alas, nope, Gmac4247. That will not help, neither now nor later. Your wanted addition is your original research, so publishing of it here, at Wikipedia, would be contrary to WP:OR policy. Apart from that it is based on an unjustified claim, so it is actually not a proof, and it ends contrary to mathematical result, well-known for about thirty eight centuries. As such its chance to be accepted equals precisely zero. --CiaPan (talk) 00:56, 9 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi CiaPan! The thread you created at the Wikipedia:Teahouse, Using a link to a redirect back to the referring page, has been archived because there was no discussion for a few days (usually at least two days, and sometimes four or more). You can still find the archived discussion here. If you have any additional questions that weren't answered then, please feel free to create a new thread.

A barnstar for you! edit

  The Graphic Designer's Barnstar
For the image that you provided on the Four Color Theorem - it's beautiful! Integral Python click here to argue with me 21:48, 6 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, IntegralPython! I really appreciate the barnstar, it means a lot for me. It's very encouraging to see my activity here serves the project well. Anyway, I must admit that it was not solely my work. The original idea, as well as the first ugly raster sketch (you can see it HERE) were mine, but I have no necessary skills or even appropriate tools to prepare such nice SVG drawings. So I made a request at Commons:Illustration workshop (oldid:539642426, section Please redraw my 4CT_Inadequacy_Explanation.png in SVG), and Mrmw created the final image you can see in the article now (THIS one).
So I want to share your special thanks with Mrmw, too: Good Job!   --CiaPan (talk) 13:02, 7 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notification for March 11 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Lamina (anatomy), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Lamina cribrosa. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:20, 11 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

A note for readers, not for the author (bot):
that was intentional – I've added a deeper level of disambiguation to LaminaLamina (anatomy). --CiaPan (talk) 07:48, 11 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Quicksort worst case edit

Hi CiaPan. Thank you for your good work. Quicksort exhibits quadratic behavior under some simple scenarios, which I listed, and are also already listed in the article. It's safer to NOT say those are rare conditions in the opening paragraph. If you want to add "rare conditions" again, please add a citation. Arosa (talk) 20:47, 29 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notification for November 12 edit

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Sixth, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page 1/6.

(Opt-out instructions.) --DPL bot (talk) 05:58, 12 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

That's right. And that was intentional. --CiaPan (talk) 10:56, 13 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Features for new users coming soon (and mentors, like you, wanted!) edit

Hello. Although for some reason you aren't currently signed up as a host at the Teahouse, I recognise you've made a lot of conributions there in recent times. So I wanted to make sure you're aware of the imminent rollout of new Growth Team Features which every new account will be getting by default. Each users will soon see a new 'Homepage' tab next to their User page. It contains two main elements which might impact on your involvement - and you'd be welcome to get involved and help out directly with one of them.

  • Firstly, they will be offered a range of 'suggested edits', and encouraged to make simple improvements to pages that interest them. (Being aware of this feature would be helpful for all Teahouse hosts and other helpers if you're likely to offer advice on tasks for them to start out doing.)
  • There's also a 'Your impact' box to show them how many people have seen the pages they've just edited.
  • Finally, each new user is randomly assigned a 'mentor' from a list of friendly, experienced editors, like yourself. If they get stuck, they can ask a question directly to them via a Your mentor box, and hopefully get a swift, friendly answer from that mentor. Currently, this feature is given to 2% of new users, but it's set to increase to around 10% in the very near future.

To spread the load on our current list of around 65 mentors, I'm reaching out to ask if you'd like to help out and sign up as one? The workload is relatively small; User Panini! reports receiving four questions a month, on average, all of which were simple ones of the type we already get at the Teahouse, whilst I've had just one in the last 3 weeks. To view a list of every question asked of all mentors over the last 14 days, click here.

If becoming a mentor and being available to help new users on their first few days here interests you - just as have done at the Teahouse in the past - then please consider signing up at Growth Team features/Mentor list. But please only do so if you are genuinely willing to be available to help. Existing users can already 'opt-in' to seeing the Newcomer Homepage features via their Preferences.

Thank you! Nick Moyes (talk) 16:40, 25 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of File:Funhipgeom.png edit

The file File:Funhipgeom.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unused. Superseded by c:File:Hyperbolic functions.svg.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 10:53, 23 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Minorax: If File:Funhipgeom.png is deleted, File:Funhipgeom.bad.png will deserve deletion as well. --CiaPan (talk) 05:46, 26 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Your deletion at the ents desk edit

[2]. So are you going to move it to the correct desk? --Viennese Waltz 20:02, 7 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Viennese Waltz: No, I don't think so. IMVHO this:
Special:contributions/2A02:B027:F02:7329:D1F1:28B9:E550:3B46
is quite enough. --CiaPan (talk) 20:15, 7 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
OK, but you're fortunate that the OP posted his question on the help desk as well, and was directed to the article's talk page. When I see an OP asking a question at the wrong desk, my first instinct is not to delete the question, but to advise the OP of where it should be posted. In general, good faith RD contributions should not be deleted. --Viennese Waltz 20:24, 7 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Viennese Waltz: You see, I am not fortunate, but rather somewhat careful. When I see some kinds of request I check the author's contribution first. Well, usually I do. And so I did this time and when I saw the same has been asked in multiple times places I decided the worst placed one can be deleted safely.
Possibly I might have added some more explanation to the edit summary, like 'duplicated at WP:HD' or at least 'asked elsewhere'. Apparently, I am not as careful as I think I am. --CiaPan (talk) 07:20, 8 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
