The NFL Draft lists by college football team that you are creating should be sorted in ascending order chronologically, not descending order as you have been doing. The "External Links" you are including are mis-capitalized ("links" should be lowercase) and unnecessary if left empty. Finally Template:NFL Drafts should not be transcluded on these articles. Copying within Wikipedia

re List of Bucknell Bison in the NFL Draft. NFL Draft content was added to Bucknell Bison football in 2015[1]. When you recently created "List of Bucknell Bison in the NFL Draft"[2] you may have copied this content from Bucknell Bison football into the new article.

Two callouts

1. Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia explains how to attribute porting content from one article to another (new or existing) article
2. Generally, when we have a stand-alone article of NFL Draftees (Category:Lists of National Football League draftees by college football team), the duplicate content is removed from the "main" article.

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Luke (name). This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Post-move cleanup

Part of moving a page is a post-move cleanup. It is necessary to do that and it's not something that you can simply leave to others. If you cannot be bothered with cleanup, do not move pages in the first instance. If I look through your contributions history (the last few hours, that is), I don't seen any cleanup whatsoever. See WP:POSTMOVE. Amongst other things, it says: "If the old title becomes a disambiguation page, or points to a disambig page, disambiguate incoming links." Whatever is needed, that's fine, I'll do it no problem. I read the bylines and they are somewhat vague, at least in my case. I'm assuming this is in reference to my creation of various disambiguation pages, but I would like more specific guidance as to what I am doing wrong, just to get better at editing overall. No harm intended in not attempting to do all that was needed. Surname pages

Hi Debartolo2917. I have just reverted edits you made to the Surname page Wilson, where you removed all names that were also covered by Disambiguation pages. As a frequent user of Surname pages I find lists of dab pages frustrating. To me it doesn't matter how long an article is: I can find any string using Ctrl-F, but with just a list of dab pages how do I find a D. Wilson who's an actor? or worse still Judge Wilson? Believe me it's a pain, and it happens often. I appreciate how much effort you put into tidying the article, but others have put a lot of effort into making these hidden names visible. Hi – was there any discussion about moving Nick Drake to Nick Drake (musician), or did you just decide to do it yourself? There really should have been a discussion first about this, because I think it is very likely that Nick Drake the musician is the primary topic here, and there should have been a consensus first before making the move. I can understand why you wouldn't have heard of him – he was virtually unknown during his lifetime, and only started gaining a cult following from the 1990s onwards. He and his albums are now widely admired, and often appear in "best albums ever" lists. As SilkTork says, it's best to check first for the primary topic, and then set up a requested move to get consensus first if you think it should be changed. I've moved back because you had made more than one edit when doing the move so created a page history so only an admin could undo the move, but I'm finished for the day, so could you go through and clear up any edits you made in relation to the move. I'm actually all in favour of boldness, but because these two recent moves were clearly inappropriate, it would be best to do as Richard3120 suggests for a while, and seek consensus for future moves. The main criteria, and the least ambiguous, is - as per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, " it is highly likely—much more likely than any other single topic, and more likely than all the other topics combined—to be the topic sought when a reader searches for that term". The next criteria is "long term significance", and that's a judgement call which people can get wrong if deciding by themselves, so needs discussion. For example, Madonna is controversial as some people think that in addition to the entertainer, the title also refers to the Virgin Mary, and so, under long term significance, the entertainer is not the primary topic. It is, however, more complicated, because the title Madonna does not refer to the Virgin Mary, but to Italian works of art depicting her, so the debate should not be Madonna the entertainer v the Virgin Mary, but between Madonna the entertainer and Madonna (art). In short, you should only do a disambiguation move for those subjects which clearly are more likely to be what a reader is looking for when imputing a search term, and which are clearly uncontroversial.

Methods to assess "more likely" are outlined at WP:DETERMINEPRIMARY. These are 1) Page views (found by clicking on page history); 2) Google hits; and 3) Incoming links.

Incoming hits can be useful if the previous two are not clear, but is placed third as you wouldn't decide by that alone. Putting an article title in a popular template can create a disproportionate amount of incoming links.

Google hits can be controversial and misleading, particularly if an article has been mistitled on Wikipedia, as a Google search will throw up a lot of Wikipedia mirrors. It's worth looking at, but shouldn't be the main determining factor; which is why it is placed second.

The primary method is the one placed first - page views. This will give at a glance the difference in views between articles. Click on History on the page you want to move, locate Pageviews and click on that. The past 20 days of page views will be shown. In the line at the top next to the name of the page you can input up to nine other pages, which will give you a clear graphic showing if one title gets more views, or if they are all roughly the same. To go back further than 20 days (in case of recent news skewing the figures) click on the date range beneath Dates on the left. You can select a range of dates, or this year, or all time. Here is the graph for Tom Drake for this year: [6]. It is important to put in the original name when a name has been moved because the page data does not move to the new title. From looking at that do you feel that extra discussion or research is needed? To make it easier you can look at them individually: The baseball player gets an average of one view a day: [7]; the wrestler gets an average of 5 views a day: [8]; the actor gets an average of 237 views a day: [9]. I feel that a page which consistently for a year or more gets at least ten times the views of all other pages combined is the primary topic. What has happened here: [10]? It looks like you did a cut and paste instead of asking for help. You mustn't do that. I guess you're feeling a bit sensitive right now because an admin has become aware that you have been making mistakes, but it's an even bigger mistake not to ask for help. Doing a cut and paste move is a serious fuck up which can be a headache to fix if not caught quick enough, see WP:CUTPASTE. Now I have been here a long time, and pretty much every mistake I've noted you've made, I have made myself, including doing a cut and paste move! (And, yes, I got told off for that, and have never done it again!) Making mistakes is part of the learning curve of Wikipedia, but I have looked back and noted that you have been here since 2017, and looking at your talkpage I see that you were informed in March this year about cut and paste moves. It is important to learn from our mistakes otherwise we repeat them. Now most things can be fixed on Wikipedia, so no big worries about making mistake, nor for making the same mistake once more after being told about it, but if you continue to make the same mistake there will be concerns about your WP:COMPETENCE. You must not do a cut and paste move again. And, for the time being would you please not do any page moves or create any more disambiguation pages until I have looked back through your contributions. Please continue to make other edits, and please don't worry: I'm not going to sanction you - I just want to check over what you have been doing, and then discuss with you the best way forward so that you don't make any more mistakes. Charles Landon

I noticed this yesterday, and that's what I came here this morning to discuss. It's a small thing, but it appears to me to indicate your thinking; and it might be helpful to get your view on it. Why do we have disambiguation pages? We don't have them for their own sake, or to be tidy or organised, we have them simply to help readers find what they want quickly and accurately. If creating a disamb page does not assist the reader to find what they want quicker than not having a disamb page, then there is no point in creating it. And if creating a disamb page means more work for the reader than not having a disamb page, then we definitely don't create one. The position before you created the disamb page was that a reader typing in Charles Landon ended up at Charles Landon (cricketer), the most likely destination. If, however, what they actually wanted was Charles N. Landon or Charles Paul Landon and they had not typed out the name properly, then they could see from the hatnote on top of Charles Landon (cricketer) ("For the illustrator and art director, see Charles N. Landon. For the French painter and writer, see Charles Paul Landon." where to go, and one click would take them there. From looking at the PageView graph ([11]) we can see that most readers manage to go directly to the page they want, rather than go via Charles Landon (cricketer) by mistake, and those readers wanting Charles N. Landon or Charles Paul Landon will still get there directly without going via the new disamb page. However, the readers who want Charles Landon (cricketer) now have to go via Charles Landon, so that is extra work and time. Essentially, you have created a nuisance disamb page.

Today's disamb pages

Joseph Addison (disambiguation), doesn't appear to be needed: Joseph Addison is the primary target, and there is a hatnote in place pointing to the other two possible targets. The only page that links to Joseph Addison (disambiguation) is Addison (surname), which you created by splitting from Addison (name) - forming Addison (surname) and Addison (given name). I think that split is appropriate given the length of the article. However, what I am less certain about is that Joseph Addison and Joseph Addison (diplomat) are now not visible; for a reader to find those articles they now need to go via Joseph Addison (disambiguation), the disamb page you created.

Alexander Addison (disambiguation), Viscount Addison (disambiguation), and George Addison (disambiguation) create the same situation as above.

Now, I am not that familiar with Name and Surname pages - I don't use them much. Rolling similar names into a click through doesn't appear to me to be useful - it looks to be creating work for the reader for the sake of neatness on the Surname/Name page. Is this something you have discussed with other editors - or is it something you have seen used in other Surname and Name articles, and you're just copying established practise? If it is established practise, then perhaps we can find the appropriate WikiProject and talk the matter though to see if there is consensus to continue doing it. I am assuming that, like creating the disamb pages, you did this in error. However, be aware that if you continue doing page moves and/or creating disamb pages without either myself or another admin letting you know that it is OK, then you may be blocked for disruption. I don't think it will come to that, but it's as well to point you to Wikipedia:Disruptive editing, and the note: "continues editing an article or group of articles in pursuit of a certain point for an extended time despite opposition from other editors". I think you're OK to carry on now. The mistakes you made were minor, and as I say, I made the same ones. You cleared up after you when they were pointed out, and you stopped when asked. I was a little concerned when you carried on for a while, but I assume that was just a misunderstanding. Making mistakes is not in itself a problem, it's not learning from them and repeating them that really causes us concern! So, please carry on, but take care to check for primary targets when moving pages, and don't make any more cut and paste moves. This discussion is a useful one - I'm learning stuff as well. I think that taking part in that discussion, and perhaps getting more involved in the Disambiguation WikiProject, and going there to get advice or ask questions would be good for you moving forward, and that's going to be enough. Hi! This is because many names with initials (T. J., E. J., A. J., etc.) are actually abbreviations (so for T. J., many are something like Thomas John), thus are two separate words. Is this a joke? The fact that I accidentally hit the 'a' key instead of the 's' key (which happen to be right next to each other on the keyboard) constitutes vandalism - at least enough to warrant a response on my talk page? This seems like such a minor mistake it can simply be corrected and moved on from. It's not like I attempted to deface the page, mock it, make it into a joke, or put in false information. In fact, the linked page to vandalism specifically states any good-faith edit is not vandalism, as my edit was (the section header should have been plural and was not). It also says vandalism is narrowly defined as intented to "obstruct or defeat the project's purpose". It is an impossible claim to make that my edit is intended to obstruct or defeat the purpose of the page, which is to quickly show all first-round draft picks made by the Lions. MOS:ABBR

Hi DB2917! You recently moved Tudor St George Tucker to Tudor St. George Tucker, differing only in the abbreviation (not acronym) for Saint. In Australia, as in Great Britain, it is usual to have a period as the last character only when following a letter which is not the last letter in the full word. To quote MOS

Versions of non-acronym abbreviations that do not end in full points (periods) are more common in British than North American English and are always abbreviations that compress a word while retaining its first and last letters (i.e., contractions: Dr, St, Revd).

I understand it does not have much merit, so making the case it is "disruptive" or appearing as "vandalism" makes no sense. I also do not see why you reverted the edit even though you point out how small it was. I don't really care so I'll leave it as is for now, but again, once edited, there was zero need to revert it. Removing A Comma Preceeding Jr. or Sr.

@Debartolo2917:, I noticed you changed names like Cal Ripken, Jr. to Cal Ripken Jr. in a few articles. I don't think that's the way to do it. The surname is Ripkin (in this case). Leaving the comma differentiates the Jr. from the name. It's an honorific like Esq. or Phd., something that modifies the name, but is separate from it. Hence the comma keeps the separation. I guess I just don't like it, but I guess I'm wrong.

I looked at some other places on the internet: Garner’s Modern American Usage suggests to leave out the comma as you do. The Chicago Manual of Style and The St Martain's Handbook used to include the comma (here's a quick and dirty reference). Emily Post suggests one use the comma, but recognizes the current trend is to leave it off. (also "junior" is lower case if it's written out?). I'm mostly changing them because the title of the page is "Cal Ripken Jr." (I have no preference , Jr. or Jr. in the title", but since the title is what it is, I am removing redirects. Jnr/Snr

Why have you moved James McCartan Snr to James McCartan Sr. and James McCartan Jnr to James McCartan Jr.?

MOS:JRSR only provides for the omission of a comma: "Omission of the comma before Jr. or Sr. (or variations such as Jnr) is preferred." Existing variations such as Jnr are not expected to be changed.

This puts the McCartan titles at odds with others, such as Dermot Earley Snr, Brian Lenihan Jnr/Brian Lenihan Snr, from the same part of the world.

In the case of James McCartan Snr, the source on his page announcing his death even uses the "Snr" variation (including in the url and in the headline, and that can be seen without reading it).

Please move both back and restore all the links to James McCartan Snr/James McCartan Jnr that you've recently changed. --Gaois (talk) 17:56, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

Instead of find-and-replacing your way through extensive editing, please start looking at the context of the edits you want to make. I can see from this talkpage that you're getting a lot of backlash from universally applying your own standards to names and not looking before you go, when none of the edits are necessary, so maybe you should start paying attention to some of the feedback. It continues to baffle me how absolutely anal some editors/moderators are. This "necessary" threshold also makes no sense. I've never said any of my edits are widely necessary, nor even that important. I do them to remove redirects, that's all. As for "universally applying [my] own standards", how is removing a comma from a ", Jr." link my own standard? Various page moves have garnered some response, and I understand those, but these rules that continue to pop up are funny. Hi there,

You appear to have altered a great part of articles featuring AJ Lee, whose name you've added unnecessary periods and spaces to, presumably in accordance with MOS:SPACEINITS. As per exclusion protocol, however – if "an overwhelming majority of reliable sources use that variant style for that person", then it's impelled to be presented that way in WP. WWE had invariably employed and promoted the name AJ Lee (stylized as such) during her tenure, and to this day.

Hey, I noticed your name on several articles where you changed names in an article to reflect page moves of other articles (hope that makes sense). You might not remember this but many months ago you went through a lot of articles and changed ACH and AR Fox to A. C. H and A. R. Fox. I was just wondering do you have a tool or something that helped you find relevant pages to edit? Hi! The way I find what articles link to an article that has had its name changed is (and there may be a better way) search up the article name that you moved the article from. So for example, search up 'A. R. Fox' in the search bar, not 'AR Fox'. This should redirect you to the correct page but give a redirect notice under the article title. Click the redirect link to get to the redirect page that should be titled "A. R. Fox". Then, on the left side of your screen should be a link to click on called "What links here". One thing I will say off the bat is the player who I disambiguated to "(American football, born 1970)" played the majority of their career in the NFL (4/5 years) while the player I disambiguated to "(Arena football, born 1970)" did not, and instead mostly played in the arena football league (8/9), hence why I chose to disambiguate by league.
