Help me to improve article of India

Manimajra was renamed as sector 13 legally by UT government of Chandigarh in January 2020 and by February 2020 the new name was finally declared to be written everywhere on papers. Being a Indian resident, i would like to contribute to this new law which was passed by our government .

It is true that the proposal had been initially opposed in december 2019. In the initial proposal, names like Sector M or Sector 26 east were proposed. Here is the link for initial proposals made :-

congrats, the article is now closer to GA. Is there anything more to add ? can you create a checklist based on your understanding of the topic and stuff that needs to be done before we proceed for a GA nom. Major OS Kalkat... if only we had listened; and at least tried to verify 1% of it...

I will need to tell you a story now ... and maybe you can help me with my doubts and where I have got it wrong >>>
In Major Onkar Singh Kalkat's article is mention of Brigadier Kalwant Singh. Now for those who live in regions where there are Sikhs, they will recognize that his name itself conveys that he is very likely a Sikh. The second you open the article, you see a turban clad soldier, another indication that he is Sikh. Note how we haven't even begun reading the text. So when you write what's the need of mentioning the religion of the subject?, such a question seems adversarial. Futermore, when you remove the word Sikh or add it; you are not actually fulfilling the intention you want. This identity goes far beyond just removing a word, and is something to cherish, especially here and in this case.

I spent quite sometime with the Indian Military Academy article. I had chosen this quote very very carefully; it is apt for this discussion:

"The cadets came to the Academy from all parts of India as it was prior to the independence and partition of India in 1947. There were Punjabi Hindus and Mussalmans [...], Sikhs, Bengalis, Marathas, Madrasis, Coorgies [...] But we worked and lived as one, namely Indians first. I have emphasised it because even today as far as the armed forces are concerned the concept has not changed and is implemented in practice".

So this diversity should be taken in a positive way. My questions for you:

1. Are you suggesting we remove all other ways as well so that it is no longer possible to identify that the person is a Sikh, in any way? You yourself rhetorically questioned "what's the need of mentioning the religion of the subject? Did his religion play any special role in his life as an army officer?"
2. Taking this logically forward, how do we erase the religious identity completely from Wikipedia articles on "Indian" soldiers?
3. If you think the questions above are nonsensical, then how best can we say they are Indian without religious identity coming to the forefront? Do you even want to do that? If the time dispensation worth it?

My questions are not rhetorical, absurdism maybe, but I think you understand how fundamental, yet how complicated and sensitive a question you have raised.
Next, why did you not point this out > Before leaving Pakistan, Major Kalkat, with the help of his Muslim friends Why did I leave Muslim there? Why did YOU not comment on this? Why did YOU not remove that religious aspect too?
Next, if Major Kalkat would have remained in Pakistan like so many other Sikhs did during those years, you would not be calling him an Indian Sikh, or Indian, rather a Pakistani…. Or to convey more information Pakistani Sikh. If he had been a Hindu, a Pakistani Hindu. These are and are not petty issues, up to you. DTM (talk) 15:29, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

Let me begin by answering to your query about not pointing out the religion of Major Kalat's (Muslim) friends. As you know, Pakistan was a newly created Islamic state and there was rampant violence against the people of minority religions, so in that context it becomes little significant that Major Kalat was helped out by his Muslim friends to provide him a safe passage to cross the border. I am not saying all the Muslims in Pakistan were bad and did not help their minority friends or neighbours in migration but there is at least some significant context behind such act of generosity.

I do understand the sensitivity of the matter and that is exactly why I have objection to mention the religions of military personnel unless their religion played any special role in their professional life. There can be other ways to mention that the subject was Sikh, like in the 'early life' section, but mentioning it in the very first sentence gives an impression that his religion played a significant role which, I believe, after reading the article, was not the case. Moreover, it is really uncommon to indicate the religion of a member of force (telling you from my own professional experience, which, I understand, has not much bearing here).--Deepak G Goswami (talk) 15:56, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

About the new parliament building

Regarding this, while I agree that the charts you removed were totally useless per WP:CRYSTAL and WP:RS (I had previously removed them too), there is indeed a delimitation commission in India. And increasing the strength of Parliament by consitutional amendment is fairly easy and expected, as India's population grows. Just thought I'd let you know, since they supposedly aim to open the building by next year and delimit constituencies for the 2024 election... Kind regards, W. Thanks Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI for your effort in explaining but there is no Delimitation Commission in existence in India deciding on the distribution of Lok Sabha seats among the states. A delimitation commission is not a permanent commission and it is required to be set up every time for a special task like the only one that exists right now is for deciding the seats in the UT of J&K. Also, no, it's not an "easy" process to increase the strength of the parliament. It's a very difficult endeavour (including the parliamentary procedure) especially when it'd create a humongous disparity between the north and south Indian states. There's a reason why no delimitation commission has been set up to update the distribution of parliament seats since 1973.--Deepak G Goswami (talk) 16:17, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
