Proposed deletion of Kevin Budelmann edit

The article Kevin Budelmann has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication of notability. While references are given they are in the main local coverage or not independent.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. noq (talk) 09:09, 5 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of members of the National Academy of Medicine, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Robert L. Hill (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. IEEE Lists edit

Fistly, thank you for wanting to add to the encyclopaedic content available on Wikipedia. I'm just a little concerned that you're simply reposting information available on the IEEE website without it conforming to our policies on constructing Lists. May I invite you to refer to Wikipedia:LISTPEOPLE to appreciate that List articles should really only contain entries about notable people who already have articles about them here? Whilst a few cited 'redlinks' about people who haven't yet got articles might be ok, you appear set to create dozens of these IEEE sub group list pages containing very few notable people. Whilst I personally value seeing the contributions of scientists rather than petty sportspeople here, I'm not confident your List articles will pass scrutiny per WP:NOTDIRECTORY You may be better simply creating shorter list pages just of those 'notable' Fellows, and simply linking to the IEEE website so users can find all the others. In addition, please rewrite the introductory paragraph to these lists as they currny pinfringe other organisations' copyight. Thank you. Nick Moyes (talk) 14:16, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello Nick Moyes. Thank you for informing me about this before I created all the lists. :D It is really a lot of work in getting the names of all the fellows, so I would have been bummed if all the lists were deleted after I had created them. I started working these lists because it says here at Wikipedia:Notability (academics) that anybody "who has been an elected member of a highly selective and prestigious scholarly society or association (e.g., a National Academy of Sciences or the Royal Society) or a fellow of a major scholarly society which reserves fellow status as a highly selective honor (e.g., Fellow of the IEEE)" is notable. So it means that every IEEE fellow is notable and deserves to have an article. Having said that, I did feel that most of the IEEE fellows don't have their standalone articles. So what do you propose I should do? I would hate to leave List of IEEE Fellows as is, with all those red links. Should I delete those pages?HRShami (talk) 03:50, 5 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Because I might br wrong, why dont we seek another editor's opinion? Let me sleep on it and I'll have a think who/where best to ask. Nick Moyes (talk) 06:29, 5 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Hello again. My sincere apologies for the long delay in replying. You'll have seen a notification that I have asked another editor here if they would review my comment to you, and offer a second opinion as to the best course of action for you to take. I'm erring on suggesting that you create just one sortable list, naming only those people with articles on Wikipedia, and stating the section they belong to. Thus the list could be sorted by name or section, and new names added as other engineers have article written about them. Thus, I think all those red-linked List pages ought, indeed, to be deleted. But if they have a different view on this, I hope they will let you know directly. (I'm afraid I shalln't be around much for a while to give you further input on this. If you get no reply from Robert (and he does like to be supportive and helpful for page creators) you could ask one of my fellow Hosts at the Teahouse for their opinion. Regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 02:20, 11 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
User:Nick Moyes, User:HRShami - What is the question? Is it about the IEEE Fellows who are not the subjects of articles? If the issue is whether the red links are appropriate, because red links should only be used for what are thought to be valid future article subjects, then I see no problem with the red links, because (as noted above) being a Fellow of the IEEE is a highly selective honor indicating academic achievement. Did I answer the question, or was there some other question? Robert McClenon (talk) 03:19, 11 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Yes, that's the question we are discussing. Thank you for answering. I will go ahead and create the pages for these lists. I discussed this with another edits here who is also of the view that IEEE lists of Fellows should be created. HRShami (talk) 03:53, 11 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Scope creep:. Hello, Scope Creep. I started these pages of List of IEEE members recently and any help in this would be highly appreciated. As I understand from your comment, you want me to add references for each person in the list. I perused several similar lists to formulate the structure of this article. Most of the list articles don't have citations for each person in the list. For instance List of members of the National Academy of Sciences (Anthropology) does not list citations for each member. Given this, do you still think I should add references for each person? HRShami (talk) 05:22, 18 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Hi, I think the single ref to IEEE Fellows directory is sufficient. There's no point in duplicating this same source a hundred times. Thanks, SD0001 (talk) 15:30, 26 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Massood Tabib-Azar edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Massood Tabib-Azar requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Actually, Mccapra, this was not good advice. The notability of scientists is based upon WP:PROF, which is entirely independent and bears no relation to the GNG: they are alternatives. . Notability of academics is normally shown by demonstrating the influence of someone's work, as proved by the extent to which thei papers are cited. There are also some shortcuts, and a named professorship is one of them, but Emeritus Profesor is not a title of a named professorship, but merely means retired professor. There is normally no need at all for rxplicit secondary sources to show the notability of an academic. The notability is shown by their workbut if you want to think in terms of secondary sourcing, it consists of the citations to they work. The facts of their bio and awardsare proven by any reliable source, which can be their university CV, though for major awards there usually are true independent secondary sources available and they should be used also. This distinction bwetween WP:PROF and GNG has held up without any exception at all for 12 years now, although I admit to some degree of bias in saying hat, because I was one of those who helped establish the standard. , DGG ( talk ) 09:46, 5 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Lewis Kim edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Lewis Kim requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Lists of American Academy of Arts and Sciences members edit

I've gone through and made the names in the AAAS member lists into links. A fraction of them are red, either because the articles don't yet exist or, in many cases, because the AAAS data included them under a slightly different name than Wikipedia used. A middle initial might be present or absent, etc. I've started checking for those, but if you'd like to put more time into this, it's pretty undemanding maintenance work. I don't have a clever system for it; mostly I just search the web for the redlinked names and see if Wikipedia articles pop up. XOR'easter (talk) 07:42, 23 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much! I would love to take on this work from here. It would also give me a lot of people to write about. Thanks. HRShami (talk) 10:44, 23 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

HRSHami< I'm glad you want to work on these. It would be particualrly helpful if you followed what is the usual style for such articles : Make sure the article starts with the basic bio, and then the full sequence of degrees and positions, with dates; a complete list of books published, with year, date, publisher, ISBN (referenced to WorldCat), and links to published reviews of them; and, (in thesciences) the 5 most cited peer-reviewed articles, given in full with coauthors, full name of journals, and links, with the number of citations to each of them; any national level awards--(not junior awards or awards from their own university) Add major outside positions, such as president of major national organizations, and any positions of editor-in-chief ; Membership or minor offices in most societies, and service on editorial boards, do not count for much & are better omitted. Very sparse articles attract skepticism. as do those using vague claims and superlatives, or those that list all possible internal and external committes. Try to source the field of research from the papers, or the CV, not the press releases or abbreviated CVs put out by the universities. Listing the major work is sufficient, not every project.

If I can help you with any of thie , please let me know on my user talk page. DGG ( talk ) 04:38, 15 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hello DGG, when I started writing on Wikipedia, I had thought that I would neatly complete one part of Wikipedia and then move on to the next. By completing one part, I mean completing all the articles of academics. :D As I continue writing, I have realized that this is a never ending project. We might never have all the academics on Wikipedia. No matter how small a niche I try to pick, I just end up realizing that I will never be able to complete any part of Wikipedia. I try to follow the template that you have described above. I have been doing a few things incorrectly such as adding more than five papers and not adding the ISBN of books. I will fix those from now on.HRShami (talk) 04:19, 24 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Can you please also give me the correct format for adding the list of books?

John P. Miller (academic) moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, John P. Miller (academic), does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. ─ The Aafī (talk) 05:54, 21 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

See WP:42 and WP:SIGCOV and add the relevant third party references which have significant covereage about the subject. Primary sources are not helpful. Regards. ─ The Aafī (talk) 05:56, 21 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi, I am actually working on the article right now.HRShami (talk)/
actually, this is not good adivce. The notability of scientists is determined by the influence of their work. It is assolutely correct and necessary to give their research, inbdicated their publications as principal sources, and demonstrating their influence in the usualway for WP:PROF., by showingthe citations to their work (and, when relevanttheir wawards. TheAafi, notability of scientists does not usually fall under the GNG. It is completely independent, because there are usually no significant secondary coverage of living scientists. The gideline here were established 12 yeasrs ago, and have held up consistently ever since. Please read the relevant sections of the notability guideline before you give further advice on them. DGG ( talk ) 09:34, 5 October 2020 (UTC) .Reply

Advice on scientific biographies edit

Please try to write in a more condensed manner. I and another editor are presently engaged in a rather thorough rewriting of your article on Keith Dobson, to remove extensive overuse of the name, duplication, and wordiness. For example, you don't have to say "he investigated X/ He looks at factors Y and Z. He determined that Y and Z were related to Z. This has proved of clinical usefulness". Instead say, "He investigated Z, finding that factors X and Y were relevant to clinical treatment. Each investigation normally should normally get one sentence, and you should confine yourself to the most important investigations. Please don't divide an article into, for example, Studies of condition X. Studies of method Y. Treatment of Condition X. Use of method Y in treatment of condition X,. These are all related, and should go in a single section. DGG ( talk ) 09:34, 5 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi DGG. I am sorry for the problem caused by my writing. I try to be succinct in writing the research section of the article. However, in this case, I guess I was strongly influenced by the fact that he has 25,000 citations. I felt that a lot of his research has been very significant, which is why I tried to mention a lot of the work that he has done. There was so much work in each area of his research that I ended up dividing even the depression section in three sections. I will ensure that the articles I write from now on are less wordy. HRShami (talk)
One more thing DGG. In a previous message you wrote that up to 5 scientific articles should be added to the article. Another editor has just mentioned that articles should not be added and only books should be added. Should I add articles or just add the books?HRShami (talk) 10:57, 5 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
If there are books, add them. The format for books is that used by WorldCat. Look at any of the bios I have edited. Also add the 5 most cited papers, in a separate section, call "Most cited papers" using google scholar, but only if the person is in science. Ignore conference presentations, and so on. . Use the Vancouver format. Do not add more than 5 papers. If anyone objects to adding papers, either ignore them or let me know. (sometimes it's worth explaining things, sometimes it isn't) If an article has been declined because of that, let me know. I will check and accept it myself, and then I will explain to them that it is necessary to have them because that's how we judge notability according to WP:PROF. DGG ( talk ) 20:50, 5 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, DGG. That helps a lot. HRShami (talk)
It's 12 days later. I had expected you to go back and fix some of the bios by now. I will rewrite them if the people are notable enough, and I have already started, but it's your responsibility. DGG ( talk ) 23:02, 18 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi DGG, I didn't know you expected me to rewrite the old ones as well. I am trying to make my writing more condensed since our last conversation above. I will be going to bios and checking to see what I can improve.HRShami (talk) 05:34, 19 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Benjamin Sommer and sources edit

Thanks for creating the article for Benjamin Sommer. You also added Sommer to the List of people from Teaneck, New Jersey. There was no mention of his connection to Teaneck in his article and there was no source in his article to connect him there. Categories were added to the article for Teaneck, for Hillsdale and for Pascack Valley High School, but there had been no mention in the article about these connections and no sources. Why not add the content / categories first, with sources, in his article, and then add him to other articles, with appropriate sources. Alansohn (talk) 15:36, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

For example, I had been able to find sources to connect him to Hillsdale and Teaneck, but I can't find any reliable source to connect him to Pascack Valley High School. What source are you using? Alansohn (talk) 15:45, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
I read this in some listing or online directory sort of site - may be it was LinkedIn. That's why I did not add it to the article and just added the category.HRShami (talk)
Material in articles requires reliable and verifiable sourcing, not vague recollections of where you might have seen something. If the source is available and its reliable then add the source. If you have concerns about the source, find a better source or don't add the content. Why should other editors be forced to track down sources for you? Alansohn (talk) 21:54, 12 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Which is why I didn't add it to the article. I just added a category. I'll not be adding any categories based on such information in the future.HRShami (talk) 06:34, 13 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please see my edits on your new article on Joseph Vinetz I only dealt with style, expressing things more compactly; removing student and post doc awards, and not saying the asme thing in different sections. The next step is to condense the descipion of research to the msot improtant-- Looking at citations to the key publications will indicate which of his projects had major influence--the others should be removed--I leave that part to you.

Since you are working so extensively in this important area its worth the trouble to learn to get things right. I will typically try to look at every article on a biomed scientist, tho I miss some, but I expect the original author to write them better in the first place. . DGG ( talk ) 08:19, 15 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Noted. I used to write the same thing in different sections since I thought that everything in the lead section must be mentioned in the article. And then having an awards section caused some duplication. In the research section, that's exactly what I do - pick the most impactful papers and then describe them. I will be further improving how I write.HRShami (talk)

Bob Evermon moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Bob Evermon, is not suitable as written to remain published. Speedy deletion nomination of Ali Dehghantanha edit

Hello HRShami,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Ali Dehghantanha for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

@FormalDude:

Hi. Does Semantic Scholar count as a Reliable Source for proving the citations an article has received? Google searches show that the article has been cited over a 1000 times, but Semantic Scholar shows it has been cited around 350 times. That's still a lot of citations. In case of selected essays, I have chosen the ones I felt were most important based on citations, or translations into other languages. I added some from the recent years to cover most of the ideas he has written about.HRShami (talk)

That's probably not the best source, but you might want to ask at WP:Reliable Sources/Noticeboard. Also it seems like it would be better to say "Notable Works" and include sources that verify notability. ––FormalDude talk 06:06, 25 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Helmut Koller edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Helmut Koller, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

CUPIDICAE💕 15:42, 16 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello, HRShami

Thank you for creating Ruben Sanchez (artist).

User:Snow Rise, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

I have no major concerns with the article as NP reviewer, so I am marking this reviewed. I will say that far too large a percentage of the sources are dubiously RS or well-suited to verification or notability purposes, being commercial or promotional media associated with the artist, or else one-off references in clickbait-adjacent blurb content. That said, there are more than a half dozen sufficiently quality RS that give the artist coverage in significant detail--as either the man focus of an interview or discussion, or at least a major component of a larger piece. It is therefore reasonably up-to-snuff for purposes of WP:N. The article does also lean a bit promotional in tone, but there as well, not to an excessively bad extent.

Sourcing bare urls edit

Hi @HRShami: I reviewed your article at Donald L. Patrick. I noticed you have been here for 6 years now and your using bare urls as though they are going out of fashion. Can you you take a look WP:REFB which is a small tutorial on howto create full citations. Your essentially shooting yourself in the foot, because these references are virtually useless as the average website page is only up for six weeks, so it makes the references decay in terms of quality over weeks making for a low-quality. It takes a lot of work for somebody else to bring this article to WP:MOS compliant article. Even the script is used is not ideal and it misses field, leaving the reference half-done. Can you please go back and repair these references. Reference 15 for example, has a doi on it. All you do is plug the doi into the doi field in the cite journal in the cite button, in the editor window above, and click the wee magnifying glass icon and it fills it in for you. It is very easy. scope_creepTalk 05:04, 2 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Sorry for that. I'll fix my referencing going forward. If I use the refill tool, would the references be okay or would I have to manually fill them? I'll fix the Donald L. Patrick references.HRShami (talk) HRShami (talk) 10:45, 5 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Arthur Baroody edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Arthur Baroody requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia.

Hi there, HRShami. I'm really glad to see you have added the Women in Red box to your user page. I also appreciate the increasing amount of editing time you have devoted to biographies of women. If you would like to become a full member of the project, you can sign up under "New Registrations" on Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/New members. I look forward in any case to many more biographies of women scientists and academics. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 06:06, 14 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much for your message Ipigott. I just don't where to start. I have already started working on Ida Bull's article. She was listed in WIR. However, how do I mark that I have taken up her article so that someone else doesn't work on it simultaneously? I'll go and register for the project.HRShami (talk)
If you are referring to the Norwegian historian, I suggest you prepare your draft as user:HRShami/Ida Bull. I don't see any imminent danger of anyone else creating the biography as the Norwegian and German versions of her biography have been around for some time. Once you have made a solid start with three good secondary references, you can move it to article space and continue to expand it there. Please let me know if you need additional assistance.--Ipigott (talk) 09:57, 15 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Just noticed you have registered, so welcome to the project. You might find it useful look through out Primer. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 10:02, 15 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the help and guidance. I'll surely reach out to you if I need any help.HRShami (talk) 10:50, 15 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Autopatrolled edit

Hi HRShami, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! – Joe (talk) 08:41, 27 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much. This feels like an award. :) HRShami (talk) 08:56, 27 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Jimmy Mays.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Jimmy Mays.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 7 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Categories edit

Hi there, thank you for all your contributions and all the great articles you create! Please can I recommend not adding biographical articles directly to Category:Academics though, as that is only a container category and instead they should be categorised by their discipline, nationality, etc. It's only a minor issue, and I move them when I come across them as it's one of the categories on my watchlist. Thanks. -Kj cheetham (talk) 11:09, 12 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Robert L. Norton.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Robert L. Norton.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license.

Thank you.
