Explain?

Would you please briefly explain, on the film's talk page, your recent move of H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds (2005 film)? I can't actually tell the difference. The article has been contentious at times, so an unexplained move has the potential to be misunderstood. Thanks. I understand the "unprintworthy redirect" cat - quite sensible. --Lexein (talk) 13:18, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Yo Koavf, I think you may have mistagged a few article talkpages as category-class in your latest AWB run, e.g. Talk:Eurodusnie_Collective. Skomorokh 23:28, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

Categories for Pink Floyd

Hi. I'm wondering if adding categories for Pink Floyd as a duo and trio are going to be rather confusing. I mean, I like Pink Floyd, but they certainly confuse me. I assume that if I read the article I would find out who constituted the trio and the duo, but I tend to think of them as the entire band; perhaps the category just for the classic line-up should be used; Gilmour, Waters, er, Wright... and... um... the other one, if there was another one. See? I'm not very good at this. But, nevertheless, I think the multitude of categories relating to band member numbers is probably unwise. --bodnotbod (talk) 16:16, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

[edit] display

Home sick today so I had a little time for further investigation. The problem apparently exists with all browsers except ... you guessed it ... IE (7.0). The problem can be demonstrated on Firefox (3.5.11), Opera (10.10), and Safari (4.0.5). by visiting the Church of the Brethren article and navigating to the Beliefs section. Then varying the width of the window will show the [edit] links dancing around like sprites. At around 762 pixels wide (on all non-IE browsers tested), the [edit] links for Beliefs and Non-Creedalism display properly. From the looks of the elements moving around them, I would hazard a guess it has something to do with the way Wikipedia is styling the boxed sections since several of them are converging at that point of the displayed page as the window width is being changed. I prefer to style my web pages to work properly on Firefox and then add hacks to accommodate IE. A LOT FEWER problems that way and a LOT FEWER changes down the road when M$ is finally forced to adhere to the standards. Thanks for your feedback. I wonder how we can alert the wizards of Wikipedia to this coding problem? JimScott (talk) 16:48, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Minor Counties cricketers

Can you please show me where the CfD discussion took place? I can't find it. It is wrong, as the cat refers to players who played for a team known as "Minor Counties", not just the "minor counties" as a collective. See WT:CRIC and Category_talk:Minor_counties_cricketers for more discussion. The-Pope (talk) 00:27, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick reply. This case is a fairly easy one to get wrong, as the main topic on the Counties is about the generic counties, with just a mention half way down about the team. As WP:CRIC is one of the better organised projects, it's a good idea to raise any XfD related to cricket at WT:CRIC first to see if there is some unique quirk about the game that may be a reason for an apparent error. There is a fairly high level of scepticism about the CfD regulars, and things like this just reinforce that view - although it isn't warranted in this case, as it isn't as clear as it should be. I'm sure that we can all make it a lot clearer now that the confusion has been highlighted. Regards, The-Pope (talk) 02:10, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

List of The Smashing Pumpkins band members

Please, stop adding Ginger Pooley to the official member list. She was never an official member of the band, because no official announcement regarding her membership from Billy Corgan, the management, or Pooley herself was announced; therefore, she is to remain under the "Former touring members" section. Thank you. WereWolf (talk) 17:36, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Also, for the year ranges (i.e. 1988–2000), we use an endash, not a hyphen. Please see WP:DASH for more information. WereWolf (talk) 03:14, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Grateful Dead album chronology

Greetings, Koavf. Yes, per WP:ALBUM#Chronology, the album chronologies in infoboxes most commonly do not mix studio and live albums, but "For some artists it may be more appropriate to include all album types in one chain, but care must be taken to maintain the integrity of chains, so that when album "A" points to "B" as the next album, "B" points back to "A" as the last (previous) album." The Grateful Dead is definitely one of those artists where it's better to use one chain. That is currently in effect for their many albums, and I and other editors who have worked on those articles feel quite strongly that it should remain so. See also Grateful Dead discography, where their studio and live albums are also listed together. As it says there, "Unconventionally, the Grateful Dead made the release of live albums a common occurrence throughout their career. Because many were recently recorded and included previously unreleased original material, they often filled the role of traditional studio albums. An integral part of the contemporaneous evolution of the band, such live albums are included in this section." Thanks! (You can reply either here or on my talk page.) Mudwater (Talk) 22:57, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Indeed, this question has been well thought out and discussed previously, and I and other editors have expended a fair amount of effort making sure that the Grateful Dead album infobox chronologies are consistent and form a single chain. For that matter, the same is true, and for similar reasons, for Allman Brothers Band albums. Again, I agree with what it says at WP:ALBUM#Chronology -- for most artists, studio and live albums should have separate chains, but for some artists they should form a single chronology. So, I'm going to go ahead and put the American Beauty and Grateful Dead infoboxes back the way they were. If you wish to discuss this further, feel free to reply, either here or on my talk page. Thanks again. Mudwater (Talk) 23:52, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Why the change to capital A? It seems that the name of the series is ".... and Proud" in lower case and each episode is called "Whatever and Proud". Groomtech (talk) 06:29, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi Justin, my intent was not to remove the unlink the sources - it was an unfortunate side effect of using Dab solver. It's interesting that it didn't remove all the links for the sources - I don't see the pattern. Hi, I noticed that you put a tag on the talk page for the article I created on the historic states of Germany and that this will help make the page more popular. What I mean is how can I post rates of quality and imporance.

Also, you just put the tag for Austria would you put the one for Germany as well as both were highly imporant in this article, in fact Germany even more so ecause Austria was only in the first second and Germany was in all four? Vadac (talk) 14:48, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Nelson Muntz

Please revert your middle name addition. This is why I had the page semi-protected, it is a trivial joke that belongs at http://simpsons.wikia.com/wiki/Wikisimpsons CTJF83 chat 03:41, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Joke It clearly is a joke in our reality, but it's delivered straight in the episode and is not apparently a joke within the reality of The Simpsons. Consequently, it seems to me that it's worth keeping. —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 03:44, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
Then I'm going to guess you ave not familiar at all with how WP:DOH works. Explain how a 3 second mention of a middle name is important when the first stating of the name was episode 466. CTJF83 chat 03:49, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
??? I'm not sure what the Simpsons WikiProject has to do with this, as I don't immediately see any naming conventions there, but this is a show that includes characters named Carl Carlton Carlson, Edna Krabappel, Herschel Shmoikel Pinkus Yerucham Krustofski, Lenford Leonardo Leonard, Otto Mann, Hans Moleman, Cletus Delroy Spuckler, and Bartholomew JoJo "Bart" Simpson amongst others. What is your point? —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 03:56, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
Not sure how you can compare last names to middle names...but ok. CTJF83 chat 03:59, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
What? Why can't I? And Carlton, Shmoikel Pinkus Yerucham, Leonardo, and JoJo are clearly farcical middle names; it's a comedy show. What is so different about "Nelson Mandela Muntz"? Of course it's a dumb joke, but it's a dumb joke within the context of an animated sitcom. —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 04:00, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
I've cleaned up all your middle name examples except Bart which is an FA. Clearly a last name is much more important/notable than a middle, so why would you even think those could be compared in importance?? CTJF83 chat 04:02, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
Wordplays They're all wordplays; it's a leitmotif on The Simpsons. I'm not comparing their importance and I still don't understand what your point is. —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 04:04, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
My point is a 3 second mention of a name one time is very trivial, and belongs on a crappy site like Simpsons wiki, not an encyclopedic site like Wikipedia. CTJF83 chat 04:06, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
Okay I'm not going to argue with you about this anymore; it's the character's name and it's sourced. How quickly it was mentioned or which part of his name is even more trivial than the wordplay itself. Several characters have ridiculous last names that are mentioned once and it makes no sense to delete the last name; this is a waste of time. —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 04:10, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Adding {{italic title}}

I added the template only to the albums' articles whose titles did not show up in italics. It could just be my system; did they all show up in italics? CityFeedback talk 15:56, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

That is strange… they didn't for me. It was only New Adventures in Hi-Fi to Accelerate that did on my machine. Try reverting one and I will let you know if the italics still show up. CityFeedback talk 21:03, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
How strange; yes they are showing up for me now. I'll revert the rest, unless you have beaten me to it. Thanks, CityFeedback talk 21:15, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Illinois

I would like to give it another go, but I need a little more time. Give me another week or so, and hopefully it will be up for it. I would like to find info on the long song titles, ensure all the prose is pristine, and any other info I can find to make it comprehensive. Thanks for the enthusiasm! Just... be careful with it

Hello, per your request, I've granted you Rollback rights! Just remember:

If you have any questions, please do let me know.

--HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts?

Please be more careful with WikiProject Templates

You have been tagging categories and articles rather randomly with {{WikiProject Estonia}}, e.g., [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9] etc. Please be more careful, as none of those articles and categories should be tagged with WikiProject Estonia - and tagging them for WP:ESTONIA means just that someone - in this case me - has to clean up the mess. --Sander Säde 08:02, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

The same applies to the category:Stolpersteine which has been tagged with inappropriate country project banners; see Category talk:Stolpersteine. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 08:37, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

CFD speedy categories

I don't know if you were aware of a recent software tweak, but there's now a very good reason to not process CFD speedy renames manually, as you have been doing. If they are processed by Cydebot, the new category that is created is automatically transferred onto the watchlist of anyone who had the old category on their watchlist. This is not done if we just manually create a new category and delete the old one manually. So I suggest for this reason it should be left to the bot now. Thanks. Good Ol’factory (talk) 10:02, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

I saw your examples, and they seem 100% fine as manual renaming procedure, but I don't think that the new category you create are transferred to the watchlist of people who had the old category on their watchlists. When the bot does it they are automatically transferred on watchlists, which is why I think they should be left for the bot to do. It's not fair to be removing these from users' watchlists if we don't have to. Good Ol’factory (talk) 03:39, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
As long as you move the talkpage then it seems to work. I was misunderstanding what you were doing. (In any case, it seems like a bit of a waste of labour, since a bot can do this automatically and will also delete the old category automatically, whereas how you do it requires someone to delete it manually. It's kind of annoying, really, and would be easier to just let a bot do it.) Also, if there is no pre-existing talkpage, it could result in removal of it from watchlists since there would be no talkpage to move; unless you bothered to create one, of course, but doing so is not always warranted. Good Ol’factory (talk) 09:47, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

Question.

Do you think it would be a good idea for the List of The Smashing Pumpkins band members to have another peer review? WereWolf (talk) 04:41, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Eh, okay. I wish we could just explain that the main article is a featured article, and that there's no point in reinventing the wheel. The text is completely fine the way it is. It's not like we're trying to have a jalopy pass for a Porsche 911 turbo here... WereWolf (talk) 04:47, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
No problem. I really appreciate you working with me on this. So, we'll just change the text around (not too much) to differentiate between the main article and the list? WereWolf (talk) 04:49, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
Gaaah. This is so frustrating. Hahaha, alright. We'll work on it. WereWolf (talk) 04:59, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

The Cleveland Show

Please do not add the {{WikiProject Family Guy}} banner to the talk page of Family Guy episodes. It is not within the project's current scope. Gage (talk) 07:53, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

Talk:Shahada

Hi, you added Wikiproject banners for Afghanistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia to Talk:Shahada but I have removed them because I believe the topic relates to Wikiproject Islam particularly but is not specific to any one Muslim-majority country. Green Giant (talk) 01:22, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

Miles Davis album

  • Hmm. The others which were kept all had massive sales - gold/platinum status; this one charted at 22 in a genre chart and had a review at AllMusic (which frankly covers everything). Is this enough for a restore? Black Kite (t) (c) 20:11, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

You know how they say "Close only counts in horseshoes and atomic bombs" Well that's sort of where my discussion page archiving attempt has ended up. But is this close enough? Carptrash (talk) 23:14, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Huggle

That's three times now Huggle wiped out an edit by me by mistake. Any idea when they'll fix that bug? Slightsmile (talk) 23:29, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Sorry I forgot to include which edit. Usually I like to do some cleaning while reverting v's. Slightsmile (talk) 23:42, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
I recently got rollback myself but I don't think I'll be using Huggle. I vaguely remember seeing other editors having problems with it - seems like a bit of a dog.
Off on a tangent - I managed to have a minor accident with rollback Monday. I went to click on an article's hist and the screen jerked and put the mouse over a rollback for a user's talk page as I clicked. Embarrassing. Slightsmile (talk) 23:58, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Superior Edits

will you stop editing the Superior (Comics), i know that i created the article the wrong way so that is why i am changing the contents of the article!!!!!

Now if you look at the Article now it is complete so do not revert to the earlier one!!!!!!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by C2fx (talk) 13:03, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

In future, when you are creating an article, try creating it in your own user namespace first, and then move it to the main (i.e., article) namespace once you’ve completed it. In this instance, you would have created the article as User talk:C2fx/Superior (Comics) first. Once completed, you would have then moved it to Superior (Comics) in main (i.e., article) namespace. Recent changes patrollers are not supposed to review edits made in user namespace. So, your work can go untouched until you’re ready to unveil it to the world.

Also, while you are in the process of creation, try using the templates here to ward off evildoers who would delete your nascent oeuvre. Good luck! — SpikeToronto 17:52, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

i know that's why i added graphics, and many disambiguation pages do have graphics, it makes it easier to find certain items via a small picture, especially when not everything is easily table of contents organized
