Thanks for uploading File:BayOcean (yacht).jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Non-free rationale for File:BayOcean (yacht).jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:BayOcean (yacht).jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. License tagging for File:Northwestern departing Willamette 1939.png edit

Thanks for uploading File:Northwestern departing Willamette 1939.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 02:05, 26 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Neah Bay Dock Company edit

The article Neah Bay Dock Company has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (companies) requirement. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back. Thank you,

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Disambiguation link notification for May 25 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Willamette Falls Locks, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Corps of Engineers (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Offer of help with newspaper sources edit

Hi Mtsmallwood, I came across Shady Side (steamboat), which you started in 2009, while fixing orphaned pages and had a lot of fun expanding it. If you're still writing articles on topics like this and would welcome some help, I have access to the New York Times archives and to Newspapers.com. I'd be happy to help find sources. You're very welcome to leave me a message whenever. › Mortee talk 00:52, 13 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your kind remarks. I think I started Shady Side (steamboat) as part of an overly ambitious project to do articles on the steamboats shown in the many James Bard paintings. So I guess I started with the picture and then decided an article was needed. You did a good job expanding it. Most of my articles have been on west coast steamboats, for example Bailey Gatzert (sternwheeler).Mtsmallwood (talk) 02:42, 13 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Wow, Bailey Gatzert (sternwheeler) is a very impressive piece of work! › Mortee talk 11:32, 13 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Wilhelm Krüger edit

The article Wilhelm Krüger has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

It appears that this is a fake article, because that person never existed : he was confused with Friedrich-Wilhelm Krüger at the time of his creation. It has just been deleted from French Wikipedia where it had been copied from English Wikipedia. Please see that discussion page : [1]. Best regards. Gkml

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I don't know how wikidata works, but glad to see it. Can it be used to establish a database like Access?Mtsmallwood (talk) 02:41, 12 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes, Wikidata is a database that accompanies Wikipedia, and is publicly editable. In many ways the software is like Wikipedia's, but it has more sophisticated database features as well, and it can be "queried" as a database. I have been using it sometimes when I don't have enough sources to start a Wikipedia biography, but I do have a few pieces of information. This can be better than starting a draft, because Wikipedia editors from other language editions etc. may find it if it's at Wikidata, and expand it.
Here's are two examples that might help you see what Wikidata can do. Here's a more complete Wikidata entry (on Abraham Lincoln): d:Q91 And, here is a query that returns every American newspaper that has a Wikipedia article. (You have to press the "play" button in the lower left to see the results.) -Pete Forsyth (talk) 19:02, 13 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks much, I may tinker a bit, right now I'm sort of sidetracked trying to raise a puppy. :-)Mtsmallwood (talk) 23:16, 13 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
A puppy sounds much more fun than Wikidata! Enjoy. -Pete Forsyth (talk) 22:03, 14 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Portus B. Weare edit

Hi! Thanks for your comments on Portus B. Weare. Given the hard use she got, I could imagine her earning the nickname, "weary". I'd love to have that in the article if you have a source. As to why it is in draft mode, I am pretty new to Wikipedia and am aware that there is much I don't understand about formatting, adding categories, etc. I have leaned on the AfC process to have a set of experienced eyes look over what I've done. While I am quite confident regarding the content, I am less so about all the formatting issues in Wikipedia. Would you have some other advice for me on this? I'd love to be better at this. Thanks!Jordanroderick (talk) 21:07, 16 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I'll try to find it. Your writing is good (neutral and well-sourced). One suggestion would be to put in column references in cites to newspapers. I don't see that done very often, but I always try to include it because that way it's much easier to find the reference. The standard cite news template has that. I have a whole lot of sources for steamboats etc., on my home page, including period newspapers. Of course you have to be careful about newspapers as sources, they made plenty of mistakes back in the day!Mtsmallwood (talk) 23:59, 16 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Colman Dock edit

I know it's been a long time, but at Colman Dock you gave a reference {{Harvnb|Thomas Street History Services|2006|p=19}} but there doesn't seem ever to have been a corresponding template for the work referenced. I'm trying to find the source for that 1908 date for the extension and tower, because File:Pacific Squadron and Japanese ships entering Seattle harbor, 1909 (CURTIS 1246).jpeg (note date in title) seems to show that extension still in progress. - Jmabel | Talk 06:57, 24 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

2019 US Banknote Contest edit

  US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here
