Recurring edits

Thank you for continuing to watch and fix Collis Potter Huntington. Do you have any idea why a series of anonymous users, or maybe one user with different IP addresses, constantly puts CPH's birthday to April from October? Is there anything we can do about it? According to "the definitive biography" (Collis Potter Huntington, by Cerinda W. Evans, 2 volumes, Publisher: Newport News, Va. : Mariners' Museum (1954) ASIN: B0056PIFGU) which was written from family materials at the request of the family, it's October. I have no idea where the April date came from, it looks like an old typo that keeps getting repeated.Ellin Beltz (talk) 03:10, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

Howard County Schools

About this edit

That was not a good edit. Firstly it reverted other changes made too, and those were beneficial changes. Secondly you said "Text says Columbia but references give Ellicott City address and census map says West Friendship." - So why did you not cite new sources? The address "10910 Clarksville Pike (Route 108) Ellicott City, MD 21042" and the map http://www2.census.gov/geo/maps/dc10map/GUBlock/st24_md/place/p2419125_columbia/DC10BLK_P2419125_002.pdf (a stub sticking out "That says "Dist 3, West Friendship 90236" is the one that has the physical offices of the district and that is a part of Columbia CDP) show it as being in Columbia as of 2010 - While there is a West Friendship, Maryland it is not a CDP defined by the US government.

You should understand that USPS city names sometimes don't reflect the actual locations - the USPS city name says "Ellicot City" but the map shows it being in Columbia WhisperToMe (talk) 01:51, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Tri-City Suns

As I mentioned in the previous edit summary, the Tri-City Suns never played in the American Professional Basketball League according to any reliable sources I can locate. The Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball League changed its name after they played, which I've added to the text this time. Alexandria

Here's an explanation of the edits:

• 1. Wikipedia pages are meant to document history, and the past. Keep in mind the school closed very recently (2016!)
• 2. Even though the school is not in Alexandria proper it had a postal address of "Alexandria, Virginia" (8333 Richmond Highway Alexandria, VA 22309) so the average person is going to expect that it be there.

Ben Cardin, etc., results

Thanks for changing the color of the 2012 independent Senate candidate from Green to yellow. There was a libertarian in the race who got 1.2% of the vote. I have no strong opinion about whether or not that should be included in the chart. @Black BIC Ballpoint: OK, I've used the reFill tool on that page and it was able to combine some duplicate references and apply Template:Cite web a couple of times. Schuylkill and Susquehanna Navigation Company edit ... Comment

Hello Pemilligan.

You made an edit to the Schuylkill and Susquehanna Navigation Company article, the "See also" section. Your summary was "/* See also */ MOS:ALSO calls for "a brief annotation when a link's relevance is not immediately apparent" which none of this was..." The style manual notes that Editors should provide a brief annotation when a link's relevance is not immediately apparent, when the meaning of the term may not be generally known, or when the term is ambiguous. I am working on several early Pennsylvania canals that all tied in with each other. The Schuylkill canal article had what I thought was a very useful "see also' section that explained what the various other related canals were. The value to the reader was in the various canals that had part of the same name in them (Delaware and Schuylkill). I made changes to the other articles along the same lines as the Schuylkill canal article. The "see also" section in that article was created by User:Fabartus in 2016. There have been roughly thirty edits since then by other editors and it could be argued that the "see also" material passed consensus at that time. Since you are now an editor in this group of articles on early Pennsylvania canals, can we come up with a consensus on what type to use for this group of articles? I think some of the previous material is relevant and useful to the reader. It should also reflect the good judgment on the part of the editors as the MOS allows. Whatever changes are made to the Schuylkill and Susquehanna Navigation article should apply to the others.

@Risk Engineer: I wouldn't say that others not editing the sections indicates a consensus; I would call it an oversight. Regarding the style manual, to me the annotations were not brief. For the links themselves, coming in an article about canals and mostly ending with the word "canal", their relevance seems apparent, their meaning should be generally known, and they don't seem ambiguous. -- Pemilligan (talk) 21:43, 21 July 2018 (UTC)

Regarding Christ Church, Fort Meade

I regret to inform you that the information you claim is correct, regarding Christ Church is Fort Meade, is indeed false.

Regarding the matter of Rev. C.E. Butler: after hours of research, it has been proven that the minister did not commit suicide inside Christ Church. According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Friday, April 27, 1894, it is clearly stated that "Rev. C.E. Butler, an Epsicopal clergyman, was yesterday found hanging to a bedpost in his room at the Lockner house in Fort Meade, Fla." A second article of proof was found in the Abbeyville Press. The sentence stating that Rev. Butler has been again removed from the Fort Meade Wikipedia page as is was, again...not factual information. Also, this information is not prevalent to the history of Fort Meade.

Regarding changes to the Christ Church, Fort Meade, Wikipedia page: The information from the expansion of the article was taken from hand written documentation by the early founders of Christ Church, official church documentation from church vestry meetings, family historical documentation and from personal knowledge as a member of the congregation and the great-grandson of two of the founding members. Christ Church has been written about in a couple of books about Polk County, FL; however, none of that information was used in this article.

Richardson / Wen Ho Lee

The Richardson article can perhaps duplicate the material in the Wen Ho Lee article, but should not be isolated to the latter. This grotesque mishandling could not have occurred without Richardson doing his enthusiastic "Inspector Javert" imitation. Perhaps it needs a scalpel rather than a broadsword? In my personal opinion, I think it is important, because the article is about Richardson's conduct and readers shouldn't have to go to Wen Ho Lee's article to read it. Richardson, who has in my personal opinion, done many questionable things in his life, tormented this poor man, but was absolutely unable to admit he was wrong to do so. As a result, those non-governmental actors in this tragic affair paid a high six-figure settlement to Wen, but Richardson couldn't back off at the price of publicly losing face, or whatever his problem was. Wen's legal bills were also paid, but Richardson made sure not a penny of the government's substantial payout went into Wen's pocket. Wen, after this horrific experience, pleaded guilty to a single, random, extremely picayune one of the 59 bogus charges that had been levelled against him, that had ruined his life, that had taken his earnings and his pension and his career from him, for no other reason than to make it appear that Richardson's actions were somehow justified or vindicated. Wen pleaded to the single charge so his torment didn't continue. We don't know if this was the reason Richardson did not get a cabinet-level post again, in the Obama administration, or if it was something else that was not disclosed to the public, but he did not get that job, nor would he in the line of presidential succession should some massive tragedy befall those who were higher than he on that list after the Vice-president, the Speaker of the House, the President pro tem of the Senate and other historically senior cabinet members who were not disqualified by either age or place of birth. Even President Clinton apologized to Wen. I would suggest to you that you go through the text and item-by-item remove what you think should specifically not be in the article, and retain that which should stay. Template:FCBL

No, I don't think that's going too far, though I wasn't going to do it, on the grounds that it's easier to destroy than to re-create. But the FCBL is sticking at 7 teams for 2020, without divisional play, and if they should go to divisions again, we can go back into the history for it.

Separately, I've updated the franchise map in Template:FCBL Labelled Map, though patching a PNG file is not the same as having the same sources to work with. This template should use the recommended templates that would let the dots be overlaid onto the image, rather than requiring the image to be redrawn every time a franchise moves/dies/is born. Preference or policy?

Hi. I prefer using the short form of the citations for most edits, excluding citations for books, etc., and don't know if policy dictates otherwise. I run into a lot of longer form citations that have not been filled out with often helpful information (such as the dates edits have been made). I'm presuming that the short form, that I've been using for fourteen years, is still appropriate. I hope I haven't missed some policy change. Jack Kelly/Robert Colbert Maverick Reference

Pemilligan, thank you for finding a reference for Robert Colbert's "Put me in a dress and call me Brenda..." anecdote. I've been meaning to order Linda's book about Jack Kelly for years now. We go all the way back to "Sandra's Maverick Page" back in the 20th century, if I'm not mistaken, and both occasionally contribute comments to the enormous Jack Kelly website "The Tall Dark Stranger There," written by a mutual internet acquaintance from Sandra's site. Did you read her Jack Kelly biography? Was it entertaining? It's interesting that he was first overshadowed by an actual sibling (his movie star sister Nancy Kelly) then eclipsed again by a fictional sibling, James Garner as Bret Maverick. Kelly certainly wasn't a great light comedian like the wondrous Garner (who was in the same league as Cary Grant and Jack Lemmon) but he was really excellent when acting directly with Garner. And a lot of women really adore Jack Kelly to this day. I wish Netflix would cherry-pick the best episodes (which are laid out on the series' Wikipedia page under "Notable episodes") and throw them up on their site to generate a larger audience for Maverick. Truist Stadium

Well, this is embarrassing. I saw a photo of Greensboro's World War Memorial Stadium, the old baseball stadium, with an article about A&T using what was being called Truist Stadium. Knowing that was the name of a baseball stadium in Winston-Salem, I immediately checked to make sure everything was right. Forgot one thing.
