Tai labai jautrūs klausimai ir matyti teiginius, kurie jau seniai paneigti Lietuvoje (ne tik Lietuvos istorikų, bet ir JAV) - nerimta. Netgi rimto istoriko Snyder knygoje apie Lietuvą yra grubių klaidų. Kol Lietuvą jo knygos pasiekė, „traukinys jau buvo nuvažiavęs“ - knyga išleista ir išversta į nemažai kalbų. Klaidų tiražavimas įvyko... O toliau vieni per kitus cituoja, netikrindami, kad tai jau paneigta... Lietuvos šmeižimo (čia jau net ne klaidos) kampaniją vykdo JAV ir Lietuvos pilietis (net nekalbantis lietuviškai) Grant Arthur Gochin. Lietuvoje šiuo metu jis pralaimėjo visus teismus, turi netgi atlyginti Lietuvos genocido ir rezistencijos tyrimo centrui bylinėjimosi išlaidas. O viso to esmė - Gochin spaudė Lietuvą, kad būtų remiamasi tik NKVD ir KGB archyvų medžiaga. Kiti šaltiniai akivaizdžiai parodė, kad tai sovietinės propagandos klastotės. Nejaugi Wikipedijos nuostata – kad Lietuvos istorja Wikipedijoje būtų pristatoma pagal sovietinių propagandistų sukurptas klišes?

It's an undeniable fact that LAF was anti-Semitic (many anti-Semitic texts authored by Škirpa available on the Internet), many of its members collaborated with the Nazis (the infamous TDA), and ended up participating in the Holocaust. Yes, Snyder is not the most reliable author, and it appears Škirpa was not in Lithuania at the time ans was not inciting mobs, but basic facts are correct that LAF was anti-Semitic and LAF members participated in the Holocaust. The controversy about the street names is real -- whether you or I think that one or the other side has no merit -- and got coverage in foreign press. This makes it perfectly reasonable information to be included in the article. It's not Wikipedia's role to pick the "winner" and erase contradictory information, but to present facts and describe the controversies as they occur. Renata (talk) 05:30, 17 April 2020 (UTC)

Gradations of Lithuanian honours

Merry Christmas, I wanted to ask whether you could help me with Jonas Budrys' awards? I looked at his Lithuanian national honours and I was very confused about them. I am trying to make the article look nice, but the problem is with the Lithuanian awards and what ribbons they have. The ribbons have their own files, but the issue is what the "type" means. For example, what does "2nd type 1st class" or "1st type 3rd class" mean? Do you have any idea? Because I have no clue ;). Itzhak Rosenberg: the issue is that pre-war awards had different types/classes than the post-1990 awards. I am pretty sure the ribbons on Commons are for the modern awards. Hi! I invite you to express your opinion here because you are an expert in Wikipedia. Now it is more than clear for me that the Belarusian side actively attempts to establish Pahonia as an exclusively Belarusian coat of arm name (example from edit warring) and deny any connections between Pahonia and the Republic of Lithuania (despite the fact that the Poles still call the coat of arms of the Republic of Lithuania as Pogonia). Rector of the Vilnius University perfectly describes what is Pahonia (here) where he says that Pahonia is a dynasty symbol of the Gediminids which was later established as the coat of arms of Lithuania. The Belarusian websites are full of theories about "Slavic" Lithuania and Slavic Pahonia (example) which is absolutely contrary to the fact that it was created by the Balts and later expanded into the Slavic lands under the command of the ethnic Lithuanian pagan rulers . -- Pofka (talk) 16:44, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

To be honest Renata not being active does change my understanding of the situation a bit. I was mortified that I had pinged an editor to a page in which they had no interest or involvement, if they’re not active it is much more in no harm no foul territory. How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

No opinion on Broël, just seemed more correct. I changed ref format to be consistent. {{sfn}} is very useful when you need to cite multiple pages from the same printed work. When you don't need that, you only introduce two different citation formats that are very confusing for readers and required two clicks instead of one to get to actual citation info. Empty categories

Hello, Renata3,

I hope you are well. Per WP:C1, empty categories are tagged for deletion and then sit for 7 days in Category:Empty categories awaiting deletion in case there are questions about them, like if the categories have been emptied out-of-process. We know they have been unpopulated for 7 days because the 7 day period starts when they are tagged CSD C1. Even in the case of sockpuppets and ban evasion (see WP:REVERTBAN), quick deletion is not recommended. If there are other speedy deletion criteria that fit these categories, they can be deleted but in the case of categories deleted simply for being empty, we do have this 7 day rules so please tag them in the future if you come across them. Hi Liz. These categories were created in error. They deal with 1471 in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth which did not exist until 1569. I speedy deleted them as not to waste anyone's time with this. I probably should have selected G6 from the drop down. Renata•3 23:07, 13 March 2022 (UTC)

Question about Harv and Sfn no-target errors

Hi Renata3,

I noticed that you made some edits recently on the Battle of Bucaramanga (1899) page! You wrote "resolve Category:Harv and Sfn no-target errors." I have been working on pages related to the Thousand Days' War in Colombia, so most of those references were left by me. And I see that you fixed them. First, I just want to say thanks and I appreciate you checking in and fixing that. I am new to Wikipedia editing, and I'm basing my editing entirely on attempting to imitate the coding left behind on "good" military history pages. So that I don't continue making these mistakes, would you mind explaining to me what I did wrong, and what I need to do to ensure I don't keep doing it? (Also, I noticed that you went in and changed how I was citing the author's last names. I'm not sure what Wikipedia's style is, so I'll defer to you on that. However, at least in my academic writing, when you cite an author with the Spanish-style two last names, you cite both the paternal and maternal last name the first time you cite them, and then just the paternal last name every following time. So I'm under the assumption that, for instance, Plazas Olarte would be cited as just "Plazas" every citation after the first. If this is wrong on Wikipedia, though, I'll keep that in mind moving forward.)

Hi Rafael Uribe Uribe. Thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia. For {{sfn}} template to work properly, you need to match the last name exactly to how it is cited in the full bibliography entry. If the last names don't match, then the links in the short reference will not link to the full cite.

So in this particular case, the full bibliography entry was Plazas Olarte, Guillermo (1985). La guerra civil de los Mil Días: estudio militar (in Spanish). Tunja: Academia Boyacense de Historia while the short refence was only "Plazas 1985". So when you clicked on the blue link on "Plazas 1985" nothing would happen. Now when you click on "Plazas Olarte 1985" it highlights in light blue the full bibliography entry. I have no opinion which is more appropriate to use as last name, Plazas or Plazas Olarte, but they need to match in both the long and the short footnotes.

Also, suggest installing a script to highlight such errors in the future. All you need to do is copy and paste importScript('User:Svick/HarvErrors.js'); // Backlink: [[User:Svick/HarvErrors.js]] to your common.js page. Hope this helps! Renata•3 16:17, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi Renata3! Thank you for the explanation. I really appreciate it. I'm doing my best to familiarize myself with all of the rules and norms and styles, but it's not particularly intuitive (for me) to know where to look, or to understand the more technical things. I will keep these citation rules in mind for my future edits, and I did install the script per your recommendation. What does it do? Does it automatically flag or detect the errors when I'm editing? I went in to some pages and opened the edit function, but nothing was obviously apparent to me.

EDIT/FOLLOW UP: So, I installed the script and I can see tons of errors now for the Battle of Peralonso page. But I can't understand why. I just went in and fixed it so that I mention both of the authors' surnames in the citation. But there are lots of harvnb errors and it honestly looks like I made it worse, even though I tried to imitate the edits you made on the Battle of Bucaramanga (1899) page. Hi Rafael Uribe Uribe. So you did fix a bunch of errors in the article. I fixed the remaining ones. There were only three remaining issues: (a) the article had full cite to "Plazas Olarte, Guillermo (1985). La guerra civil de los Mil Días" repeated eight times. When that happens, the software does not know which full cite to highlight in light blue and gives an error for duplicate citations. (b) There was a stray number 13 in ref #42 "de la Pedraja, 13 2006", and (c) "Henao 2014" was missing the second last name.

I made two other optional changes: converted citations to {{sfn}}. I think it's easier to use than <ref> tags with {{harvnb}} templates inside them. Additional benefit is that the sfn template automatically groups duplicated templates. Note how the number of footnotes went down from 86 to 53. I also changed "p=" to "pp=" to indicate page ranges. Normally, "p=" is used when citing a single page, and "pp=" is used when citing a page range or several pages.

Pretenders to the short-lived Lithuanian throne

Following the death of King-elect Wilhelm Karl von Urach in 1928, his successors were entrusted to keep the pretence to the Lithuanian throne in case Lithuania would ever seek to restore its constitutional monarchy in the future. Despite the fact Wilhelm von Urach was never crowned, the Urach family still retains this title to this day. To my knowledge, Prince Inigo, as the Head of the House of Urach, remains to be the main pretender to the defunct Lithuanian throne and he never renounced it. The same goes for his predecessors. Firstly, there’s a difference between a regnal title and a title in pretence – they are also differently marked in templates as presented below for comparison.

Secondly, the quotes of Inigo unambiguously stating that he sees himself as a pretender ready to take accept his duty as King if the Lithuanian people him want to are literally mentioned in his article and in the article about the Lithuanian monarchs in the monarchism section. They are hard to miss.

And lastly, fantastical or not, care to explain what’s wrong with presenting decent articles from the mainstream media? These are not tabloids or opinions presented in a personal blog. Are you implying they don’t know any better? What should I present to you, pacta conventa? I highly doubt there are many academic sources on someone being a titular monarch of a non-existent monarchy. For further investigation, go to Heads of former ruling families. Lithuanian names

Hi, hope all well on your end. As I think you've noticed (and many thanks for correcting my errors), I have some difficulty in the use of names derived from Lithuanian-language sources, in part due to grammar and in part due difficulty to navigate when Lithuanian proper name or when a Lithuanized version of a Russian, Jewish or Polish name. In the Vaitkevičius (1967) reference is come across the foot-note iš kontrrevoliucijos rankų pavyko išplėšti 24 Kauno Darbininkų atstovų tarybos narius bei aktyvistus: B. Petniūną, B. Mickevičių, V. Griškelį, L. Zaliną, A. Pševodskj, V. Zenkevičių, A. Gadusą ir kt." I think I name the names of the first four names into English, but less sure on the latter three. Pševodskj seems to be a typo of a transliteration of a Slavic name (Polish or Russian?), 'Zenkevičių' should be Zenkevičius (Vytauto Zenkevičiaus?) but for 'A. Gadusą' I come up with nothing (in index, listed as 'A. Gadusas'). --Soman (talk) 15:20, 27 September 2022 (UTC)

Weinstein

Hi. Many thanks for the edit on the Yitzhak Weinstein-Branovski article. I came across the source stating the following, and I'm bit lost in translation: "drg. Vainšteinąs Aizikas — inteligentas, buvęs bundietis iki 1905 m., dirbo Vilniuje". Did he leave the Bund in 1905? (which would have been at the age of 17... so very early) or join the Bund in 1905? And the 'dirbu Vilniuje' would have implied professional work (i.e. that he had lived in the city before) or had been politically active there in the past? -- Soman (talk) 01:45, 26 March 2023 (UTC)

Hi Soman. Hmmm... it's unclear. The issue is the placement of the comma:

• "drg. Vainšteinas Aizikas — inteligentas, buvęs bundietis iki 1905 m., dirbo Vilniuje" -- does imply that he left the Bund in 1905 (could make sense given the revolution in 1905, but you are right that he would be very young) and "worked in Vilnius" -- but says absolutely nothing about what/when he was doing in Vilnius. I.e. cannot infer if it was party work or some factory work ("inteligentas" would imply it was party work but that's just conjecture).
• "drg. Vainšteinas Aizikas — inteligentas, buvęs bundietis, iki 1905 m. dirbo Vilniuje" -- would mean that he at some unspecified time left the Bund and that prior to 1905 worked in Vilnius.

To make matters more confusing, I just checked Lietuviškoji tarybinė enciklopedija which says absolutely nothing about his pre-1918 activities, but says he was killed in 1941 during WWII near Moscow... Renata•3 21:13, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
