Moving pages and naming conventions

Given how many times you moved Gülbahar Hatun I around, I would like to request that you propose moves via Wikipedia:Requested moves for a while. The reason is that we have naming conventions here on Wikipedia. A person that is the first of something is usually referred to as "John Smith I" rather than "I. John Smith". It's very rare that something goes against these naming conventions on Wikipedia and that's only when we have an extremely large amount of English language sources that refer to a person by that specific name. I don't normally fuss at people for this sort of thing, but you moved the page six times. That's a little excessive. If you're unsure what a name should go by, that's when it's time to ask on the requested moves board or on the appropriate WikiProject. I don't think you had any ill will or anything, just that you weren't sure what name to keep this article at. Also, when trying to fix problems with moving, the better course of action is to ask an admin to fix it rather than try to get the original article history deleted. Moving pages to create articles about different people

In November 2014 you moved Hatice Sultan (daughter of Ahmed III) to Fatma Sultan (daughter of Ahmed III), and then edited the article to be about a different person. This led to a long discussion at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2015 May 28#Hatice Sultan (daughter of Ahmed III), followed by a lot of work to sort out the mess and restore separate articles.

Likewise, on 11 March 2015 you moved Hafsa Sultan to Şehzade Sultan and edited that into an article about another person. This had to be put back the same way.

Please, never do that again. If you want help, ask for it. You could start at WP:Village pump.

Hi dear Retrieverlove. Can you find reliable sources to show us the names of Nurbanu Sultan, Mahfiruz Hatice Sultan and Kösem Sultan's children? Moving pages without discussion

Hi. I just noticed that you have moved dozens of pages about the Ottoman consorts without discussing it first. It would be much better if you had given a request for those pages to be moved instead of moving them without any clear reason. Among those articles were also these two: Perestu and Şevkefza. It's not important at all that how they were referred to on a piece of paper or a stone in Topkapi as they're not ancient documents from the past and have been written by some anonymous guys (maybe historians; I don't know). So they can't be considered that much credible and reliable. If you have a historical book or a reliable source in order to support your claims, please let me know. Besides these two women were Valide "Sultans" which means that they could automatically become able to use this title. Valide sultan just mean "mother of the Sultan". The status of the mother of a reigning Sultan is translated in English as Empress mother. It was just a reference also used from the Seljuk and early Ottoman times, and not starting from Hafsa Sultan, the mother of Suleiman I. It is not neccessory to use the title Sultan after the name. The documents and other histories written during the Ottoman Empire mention the two of them as Kadın. I have moved alot of pages from Kadınefendi and Hanımefendi to Kadın and Hanım, because the princesses of the dynasty also used Sultanefendi, but when someone speaks of them, they only rendered them as Sultan. My native language is Persian so I'm completely aware of the meanings. Valide and Sultan are Arabic words which are also used in Persian and Turkish. It means "a sultan who is mother [to the reigning emperor]" or just simply "mother of the sultan". It's obvious that Hafsa wasn't the first queen mother in the Ottoman history but as long as I know her predecessors used the title "Hatun" (Khatun) which is a title borrowed from Mongolian language and it was later used by Turks and Persians in order to refer to ladies. Anyway, Valide Sultan is a title like empress mother, queen mother, etc, and when someone is entitled to it, she's actually able to use it as a whole or just a part of it. An example would be Hafsa Valide Sultan or just Hafsa Sultan; Dowager Queen Alexandra or just Queen Alexandra (or maybe Valide Sultan Şevkefza Kadın, Valide Sultan Şevkefza, Şevkefza Valide Sultan, Şevkefza Kadın, Şevkefza Sultan; all of them seem to be correct). So I still can't understand why you insist on using Şevkefza Kadın instead of Şevkefza Sultan. I'd be glad if you could provide the sources that mention her as a Kadın. About removing "efendi" from the end of the titles, well it's probably a Turkish honorific title as it was used for Shaykh al-Islāms as well. Rabia Şermi Kadınefendi, Emine Mihrişah Kadınefendi, Hürrem Kadınefendi, Nükhetsezâ Hanımefendi (wife of Abdul Hamid I), Nükhetsezâ Hanımefendi (wife of Abdülmecid I), Aşubican Kadınefendi, Şayeste Hanımefendi, Serfiraz Hanımefendi, Yıldız Hanımefendi, Cevherriz Hanımefendi, Nevdür Hanımefendi, Remişnaz Hanımefendi, Filizten Hanımefendi, Peyveste Hanımefendi, and Nevvare Hanımefendi.

I want to delete the pages about Yıldız, Nevdür, Remişnaz, Cevherriz, Şayan Kadın (wife of Abdülmecid I), and Hoşyar Kadınefendi (This lady was the wife of Mahmid II, but is called wife of Abdülmecid I, I will either make her the wife of Mahmud II as I have alot of information about her or I will delete it) because according to my research, they were not the Sultan's wives. They were either Hazinedar or Kalfas of the imperial harem. The information about Nükhetseza wife of Abdulhamid I, and Hürrem wife of Ahmed III are selfmade. I am unable to move the pages Nevvare, Peyveste, Serfiraz, Şayeste, Nükhetseza wife of Abdülmecid, Filizten (also not a wife of the sultan, and a Kalfa, but had written memoirs which give detail about life in the Çirağan Palace, so I donot want to delete this page) because they already exist and I don't know how to move them back. I will move the pages of Şermi, Aşubican and Mihrişah. Efendi is a title of respect and was used by a number of royal and ordinary ladies. The titles Kadın and Hanım have similar meaning lady as that of Hatun. The title Sultan after the ladies name is just a replacement of the title Hatun and have some what same meanings. All of the four titles can be translated as Empress consort. Use of one title after the ladies name is better than to insert a number of titles because a number of other titles were also used before and after the name. I will lateron provide my sources for the titles of Kadın for both Şevefza and Perestu.

If you want to delete some of those pages just leave a message on an administrator's talk page and ask for his advice and he'll probably guide you. You can also nominate them for deletion because if you just simply move them it can cause several problems as the previous pages might still redirect to the new ones and it makes the users and readers confused. Change the pages Nevvare Hanımefendi, Peyveste Hanımefendi, Serfiraz Hanımefendi, Şayeste Hanımefendi, Nükhetsezâ Hanımefendi (wife of Abdülmecid I), and Filizten Hanımefendi to Nevvare Hanım, Peyveste Hanım, Serfiraz Hanım, Şayeste Hanım, Nükhetseza Hanım, and Filizten Hanım, because efendi is just an honorific title, and of the princesses articles have not used it. If Efendi is placed in the names than all the other titles would also needed to be placed, which would make the title very very long. The title is used on articles of men, who only had one title Efendi. The following pages already exist.

Alright. Now I understand. But those pages you mentioned above can't be moved because the titles you have in mind for them already redirect to those articles. It's not a big deal though because I have checked the talk pages and there's no record of any move request on them which makes the administrators able to move them. It means that you don't need to give an official request on Wikipedia:RM. Just go to the talk page of one of them and explain the situation and they will move the pages. What is the method for requested moves?

For moving a controversial article you have to give a request at Wikipedia:RM. When a page gets moved several times it makes you unable to move it again, so you have two ways: Giving a request at Wikipedia:RM, or asking an administrator to do it. But an administrator checks the talk pages first and if there was previously a discussion at Wikipedia:RM for changing the page's title, then you again have to give a new request in order to move that article. I think there's no record of previous discussions for moving the articles that you have mentioned above and as they're not that much controversial the administrators can probably move them. I've fixed the sfn referencing in Canfeda Hatun - see this diff. The general idea is that the hyperlinks in the references section should take the user to the appropriate source - and that now happens. I thought it worth drawing the changes to your attention, as you had got so near to doing it correctly, but had not quite got there. Hi. It seems that you have enough knowledge about the Ottoman history that's why I chose you to ask a question. Was Emine Mihrişah Kadınefendi a Valide Sultan? A user recently has added a new source to this article and unfortunately I don't have access to it, so it's impossible for me to check it. No, she is not mentioned in any source as Valide Sultan. Çağatay Uluçay cites a document of the year 1171 hijri (1758) for the building of Ayazma Mosque, which says that she has already died. Another document of the year 1175 hijri (1762) calls her The second Kadın, and in which she also appears decreased. Thanks for your responses. About Emine, you said that according to Ulucay she never became a Valide Sultan. The user who changed her article cites this source in order to support his/her claims: Sakaoğlu, Necdet (2008). Bu mülkün kadın sultanları: Vâlide sultanlar, hâtunlar, hasekiler, kadınefendiler, sultanefendiler. So here we have two possibilities. One historian claims that she was a Valide while the other one says she had died before the beginning of her sons' reign. I don't have access to neither of these sources but if there are two theories about her life, then both of them should be added to her article. Please add the sources you mentioned above and the things that you already know about her based on reliable sources to the article as soon as possible.

I am working on Mihrişah's article. The reason for removing the section in the page Haseki sultan is that, once a haseki always a haseki. A haseki will retain her status and title as a haseki even after the death of her husband when she will be no longer an Empress consort. There were even multiple hasekis at one time. So the section "ceased to be haseki" should not be used for them.

OK. Great. About the haseki, well I can point out some similarities here between this title and some other titles in Europe or Asia. The main point is that a queen also is always a queen. I get what you mean or intend to say. That a Valide Sultan like Nurbanu would still be referred to as Haseki Nurbanu after her husband's death. Well, the European queens, for example the British queens, like Queen Alexandra and Queen Mary, also outlived their husbands and even though they were queen mothers they were still referred to as Queen Alexandra and Queen Mary but the fact is that they ceased to be a monarch's royal consort, the same goes for the Ottoman consorts. There are numerous other examples. About the existence of multiple hasekis, well in China and Japan sometimes the emperors had two empress consorts. So it's not something unusual if some male monarchs like Ibrahim had had multiple major consorts. Based on what I said above I think we should restore the previous versions of the articles. An Empress didn't started her career as a haseki but as Hatun. After becoming a favourite consort she was promoted to the position of a haseki. She still had equal position as other Empresses according to the Islamic law. This title is similar to the earlier titles Despina and Devlet. The title haseki doesnot mean that its holder is the only Empress consort.

I know that the holder of this title wasn't the only empress consort. That's why I gave the example of Far East countries where, some times, there was more than one empress. The other thing you said was that an Ottoman consort wouldn't become a haseki of the emperor immediately with the start of her husband's reign. Why? Weren't they already major consorts to the princes who would become emperors? An example would be Nurbanu. Obviously she entered her husband's harem during her father-in-law's reign and later gave birth to Selim's children. Why isn't the article Mahidevran renamed to Mahidevran Hatun, which was her original title. She was refered to as "Mahidevran Hatun Valide Sultan Mustafa-i Cedid" which is translated as Empress Mahidevran mother of the new Prince Mustafa (new meaning Sultan Suleiman's son and not Mehmed II's son).

Well, the reason is pretty obvious. Just check the article's talk page and you'll realize why the current title was chosen for this article. There has been multiple discussions over the past months and it seems that the users are unable to determine exactly what her title was. The page was moved multiple times to different titles but each time the other users weren't able to get a consensus of opinion. Your article on Handan Sultan is inconsistent regarding Derviş Mehmed Pasha.At some point you mention he died in 1606,after Handan death, but then you say he was executed earlier than that in 1605.I suggest you correct the article or revert your edits. Providing sources and deleting the fabricated articles

Hi. I don't you whether you remember it or not, but we had a discussion back in November 2016 about some historical Ottoman figures. You told me that you would provide the names of books and documents which you had used as sources for moving these two articles: Şevkefza Kadın and Perestu Kadın. The reason that I insist on including the sources is that there's a risk that those pages might be moved back to their previous titles. Also, you mentioned that the information on Hoşyar Kadınefendi was not accurate, but as you stated that you had access to reliable sources in order to expand the article and correct its mistakes, I decided not to nominate it for deletion. Do you still wish to work on this article? And finally as you may already know too many fabricated articles have been deleted during the past months. You had said that these three women Yıldız Hanımefendi, Remişnaz Hanımefendi, Nevdür Hanımefendi weren't imperial consorts but rather kalfas. Do you have any information about them which you might want to use to correct and expand their respective articles? For Şevkefza Kadın the sources are M. Padişahların Kadınları ve Kızları - M. Çağatay Uluçay, p. 141, where in the archives at the time of her death she is still referred as a Kadın. As well as Filizten in her memoirs "Çırağan Sarayında 28 sene beşinci Murad'ın hayatı" also refers her to as Kadın. For Perestu Kadın, she is also referred as Kadın in M. Padişahların Kadınları ve Kızları - M. Çağatay Uluçay, p. 142, Ayşe Sultan's memoirs Babam Sultan Abdülhamid, on the fountain she built during Abdul Hamid II's reign [8]. As for Hoşyar Kadınefendi, I came to know that she was a wife of Abdulmejid's father Mahmud II, so I to change the information on the article about the wife of Mahmud. You can let me change the article's information or you can nominate it for deletion. Do bother explaining what you're doing and why, otherwise the next stop is WP:ANI. I have no idea why you're deleting stuff from articles, nor has any other editor. Please explain. If you go on like this, you will likely get indeffed, and I suppose you want to avoid it. It is upon the editor who performs the change to justify why the change is needed. You have done none of that: not citing another source, not changing the date of accessing the existing sources, not saying in the edit summary what you were doing, not using the talk page of the article. It is a good idea that in the future you use edit summaries in order to explain your edits instead of leaving other editors guessing about why you delete stuff. See WP:COMMUNICATE. Wikipedia:Expert editors says "Wikipedia has no formal structure with which to determine whether an editor is a subject-matter expert, and does not grant users privileges based on expertise ... No editor is exempt from fundamental Wikipedia policies; in particular, the policies of no original research and verifiability along with guidelines such as reliable sources apply to expert editors just as well". It has been long since I edited this article but in between the research I've done suggests Sehrizor Governor Mehmed Bey, Mustafazade, was husband of Hümașah's daughter Fatma and dead by 1586. The tombs of him and his wife are located at Sehzade Mosque. There are doubts as to Humașah's marriage to Lala Mustafa as well. No, not always. I am not an administrator. Any autoconfirmed editor can move an article to a title that doesn't yet exist (a "redlink"), or to a title that is a redirect back to the article you are trying to move, as long as that redirect has only one edit. Hi, if you are using short citations, please ensure that the link is pointing to the full entry in the bibliography. I strongly suggest installing a script to highlight such errors in the future. All you need to do is copy and paste importScript('User:Svick/HarvErrors.js'); // Backlink: [[User:Svick/HarvErrors.js]] to your common.js page. I have fixed a bunch of such errors in Category:Harv and Sfn no-target errors, but there are some that I can't resolve:

• Nazikeda Kadın (wife of Abdul Hamid II) - "Açba 2011" - is that a typo in year? which one should it be? 2004 or 2007?
• These articles cite "Sakaoğlu 2007" but really unclear which book it should be Bu Mülkün Kadın Sultanları. Beyoğlu (which is sometimes given as published in 2008 and sometimes in 2007) or Famous Ottoman Women. Can you add the proper citation?
  • Mehisti Hanım, Şehsuvar Sultan, Murad III, Selim II, Ahmed II, Mahmud II
• These 3 articles cite "Uluçay 2007". Is that a typo in year? Should it be 2011?
  • Şivekar Sultan, Emine Muslı Kadın, Nevfidan Kadın
• A handful of articles cite "Uluçay 1992" which has same title/ISBN as the 2011 edition. (e.g. in List of Ottoman princesses). Should the "Uluçay 1992" be properly converted to ""Uluçay 2011"?
