Questionable Star

You may wish to retract your award of "well-oiled machine" to User:BetacommandBot because it had to be blocked yet again, due to this series of incidents (message and many following). You may also wish to consider the behavior of the bot operator too. Hu 21:58, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm under the impression that stars are more or less non-revocable except if the user is completely bad or banned. The bot has made hundreds of thousands of edits, so it can't be that bad on the whole. I checked out the diff on the person behind the bot. I'm assuming good faith. Maybe the person was frantically trying to revert the edits, and they were tired of getting their talk page loaded with message. I'm an IT person with networking experience. I know that when things get out of hand, you repeatedly get messages that don't allow you to fix the real problem. You just want everyone to stop messaging you. Simonsbath DYK

Hi, Thanks for the DYK banner for Simonsbath - but I've just noticed it got to the front page with "square miles" twice in the hook - don't know if that is my error— Rod talk 22:04, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Eagle Tractor in Appleton, Wisconsin

Hi! I beat you to working on the Eagle Tractor article. Some of my ancestors worked there in Appleton. I found 2 citations and did some wikification. Hopefully, the article will not be deleted. Thanks-RFD 22:07, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Western Pipe & Steel

Thanks so much for the promotion, Royalbroil! Beleive it or not, I spent literally months researching that article, paid $40 for an obscure tome on the subject, then spent additional weeks trying (and mostly failing) to get permission from various sources to use their images, and finally struggling to massage all the information I had accumulated into a comprehensible and (hopefully) interesting article. By far the hardest article I've ever had to write, so naturally I'm very happy to get some recognition for it :)

Just one minor point - and sorry to be such a perfectionist - but I'm just a tad dissatisfied with the hook as it is. I was going to change it myself after I saw the article got promoted, but then I wasn't sure if there's an absolute limit on the text to go into an update, so I didn't.

But basically, since there seems to be enough room, I'd like the hook changed from "the only shipbuilder to bid" to "the only shipbuilder to submit a bid" (without the italics of course). Could I impose on you to make that little tweak for me? Regards, Gatoclass 13:41, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Trane Company in La Crosse

Hi! There was an interesting article in the La Crosse Tribune this morning about the Trane Company. The Trib also had an very interesting timeline in the paper which unfortunately was not on line. I get the Trib everyday. I was able to cite the article in the Trane artcle this morning. One thing about the Farm tractor article Appleton, Wisconsin- do you think you think the title should be change to that of the company? Thanks-RFD 16:44, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

I meant Eagle tractor not Farm tractor.My apologies. Thanks-RFD 17:48, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
I found another citation about the Dr. Charles G. Crosse in Sun Prairie. But, I had to put it as an external link because the present citation were more complex in their makeup. I hope it helps. Thanks again- RFD 19:22, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
Some people argue that print media is better than online, so you are wrong to assume that something needs to be online to use. I can't tell if I'm misunderstanding your comment or not. About the Eagle tractors article: I was planning to approach you on its name. It should either be called the same name as the company with redirects into it, or it should be Eagle tractor (singular). The plural is definitely wrong. My dad has heard of Eagle tractor. Do you want help with formatting the citations in the Grosse article? Royalbroil 21:29, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
Hi! 1- On the Tribune citation for Trane it is better then nothing since the article mention about American Standard taking back the Trane Company name. I do wish the Tribune had the Trane Company history dateline in it. I therefore used the Trib article as a citation. 2- With the citations in Dr. Crosse House article, I do not know if the citations were put in in there correctly or not. I did not want to wrack the article by putting an extra citation in. 3- As for the farmer tractor article I think the article should be redirected to the name of the company. I leave that one to your judgment. Thanks- RFD 23:26, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the changes-RFD 11:45, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Message to Royalbroil

I hear we have a new administrator we have, Royalbroil, or should I call the new admin Darth Broilius? I sense great fear in you, RoyalBroil. You have hate... you have anger... but you don't use them. I sense a great deal of confusion in you, young Broil. There is much fear that clouds your judgment. I sense a plot for you to destroy the Wikipedia. Twisted by the dark side young Broil will become. The boy we trained, gone he may be, consumed by Darth Broilius. Our worst fear have been realized. He has control of the admin panel and the main page. He's too dangerous to be left as an admin. You could still be a user on Wikipedia, but we do not grant you the rank of admin, not yet Young Broil. You have much to learn. JuneJhig 06:55, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Minds

Great minds think alike!! By the way, you don't have to protect the image once you have uploaded it. The cascading protection of the main page does that for you! Regards. Woody (talk) 15:04, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

I wasn't positive, so I protected it just in case. I've been watching: some admins protect it and others don't. About the upload: your upload wasn't started when I started uploading it. When I saw you had uploaded the image, I paused to see if you were promoting the next group. After you did, I left the rest for you. Thanks for jumping in and promoting the group! Royalbroil 15:42, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Fair enough, that red banner had been annoying me, so I did it for the first time! Woody (talk) 16:28, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

You were the Chosen Admin! It was said you would destroy the vandals, not join them! Bring balance to Wikipedia, not leave it in darkness! You were my brother, Royalbroil. I loved you!

Royalbroil, you tagged a satellite image I put on Springport Motor Speedway for deletion. Its US Goverment image, I believe that's open to use. Am I wrong or did I tag it wrong ? thanks. Patrick.

DYK on Gungsrong Gungtsen

Thanks so much for putting the info from my article on Gungsrong Gungtsen on the Did You Know list. It is a real honour and much appreciated! Apologies for taking so long to write - but we are having the worst heatwave ever here in Cooktown, Australia and I haven't been able to stay on the computer for long as I start dripping all over it (I don't have an air conditioner - just fans - as all our electricity is produced by solar panels and air conditioners just use too much power for our system. Anyway, thanks again. I hope I will have more info of interest again soon! Best wishes for the Christmas season and throughout the New Year! Cheers! John Hill (talk) 01:25, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I was initially reluctant to participate too heavily in DYK maintenance but it seems the admins are happy to have a helping hand, and I kind of enjoy preparing the page now and then :) Gatoclass (talk) 21:22, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

I was shocked when I was asked to run. It takes a long time to do both parts together at one time
I imagine it would!
I probably initially started fooling with it because I wanted to give my own entries more chance of success, but then I found it's kind of fun picking an appropriately varied bunch of hooks, tweaking them a tad if necessary, and re-arranging them in what is hopefully an interesting sequence. There's a degree of creativity in it. Gatoclass (talk) 21:54, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

DYK

Heh. that Inuse on DYK would have worked great... if I hadn't been editing it. Oh, well. Think I sorted it - checked the diff, added one you had selected that I hadn't. Vanished user talk 04:35, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

I would have observed it, but realise it doesn't actually show until you hit save, and I had been editing for several minutes. But I checked the diffs and copied over one of your selections that I hadn't picked. Vanished user talk 04:41, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
I think I moved all of yours to the next update. I'll double check. Vanished user talk 04:45, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
Oops, no, I had missed one. Though can you check that I put the right Eric Kattus tag up? I know nothing about American football, and it's all gibberish to me =) Vanished user talk 04:50, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
Well, you'll have to get cracking on your home team then =) And sorry about all the trouble: Just I don't like people to miss out without good reason, so figured I'd have a rifle through December 4th, since there were a lot of noms. Going to be a little hard to get all the nice pictures in - I do like the Creme brulee one - but, well, as has been pointed out to me after some worry last night, we can fudge the rules a little bit to balance the updates. (the pictured fact in the update we were working on is actually from December 3, held back to balance out updates. =) Vanished user talk 05:06, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
No apologies needed. It happens. I wish I could feel comfortable with going through the articles listed for the next update faster. Too bad there are so many United States articles nominated for December 4th. I was hoping to use about 1/3 U.S. in this next update. About 8 hours from now is a time during most weeks where the update doesn't get done on time. I looked through the whole list of articles so that I can quickly update the main page at that time (if needed), since it is time to get to sleep here. I understand and agree with small bends in the rules needed to keep the DYK list balanced. My favorite picture is the snocross one, but I'm a little biased! I should get cracking on my home team! American football is not my strongest area, so maybe later. Royalbroil 05:19, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
Don't worry, I'm in Britain, and I'm up. I'll get the next update, and try to catch the one after that. Vanished user talk 05:28, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

You're welcome. I added a wikilink and the diffs to the award so people know what you're talking about. I asked and successfully found flickr contributors to relicense their images so that they could be used in the List of Green Bay Packers first-round draft picks article while it was under consideration to become a Featured List. Flickr is a great place to find images. I routinely use it to find images. I found images of all of the 2007 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup drivers. All it takes is asking a few people. Royalbroil 20:39, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Yeah I actually now am thinking about getting a Flickr account and trying it out. Cuz I have seen some good photos for a lot of football players, but really thanks again. It looks so much better!

Thanks! I'm still a little new to DYK, but I'm considering increasing my involvement. Is this wording better? I know winningest is a word, but it seems a little ungainly. Feel free to revert if you prefer the other one. Cheers, Daniel 00:25, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
That's fine. Someone above was hoping that the word "winningest" would appear on the main page so people would look up the word and learn something. I was hoping that the main hook would be used instead of the alternative. Qualifying first for 23 straight events is absolutely AWESOME! Every event for the whole 1987 plus some into the next season. WOW! I wish I hadn't provided an alternative. Royalbroil 00:31, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

DYK late

Are you free? DYK is overdue. I put some hooks and someone else filled it up so it's ready. I see that there are 9 hooks (within the max. of 10 and a bit more than what usually fits well, which is 8). However, it just encourages others to write and compensates for the lateness. Not defending it but it's not so bad. Thanks. Archtransit (talk) 00:03, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

DYK

Thanks for the note RB. I was going to leave you to finish it when I saw you'd started but then you stopped and I figured maybe you'd only wanted to make sure the ones that got left behind yesterday were promoted. I wasn't sure whether I should promote those ones or not, but I was thinking of going back to them since I managed to squeeze in large amounts of submissions over the weekend and I figured there'd probably be room for them now. But thanks for saving me the trouble :)

I completely forgot about protecting the picture. Thanks for reminding me of that. I'll give it a go and if I can't figure out how, I'll get back to you. Apart from that I'll let you know when the next update is ready, shouldn't be too long now. Hope you are nice and safe in the middle of your snowstorm :) Gatoclass (talk) 13:00, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry RB, but I can't figure out how to upload a file from commons to wiki. Unless you can give me one or two simple instructions on how to do it, I don't think I'll be able to figure it out tonight, because it's very late here, and I'm tired and my concentration is waning. Other than that though, the update is ready to go. Gatoclass (talk) 13:37, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, this update took me a while. To begin with, every submission I checked out had a really nice picture to go with it when I looked at the article, and I thought, heck, these would do as nice leads, so I didn't want to use them in a secondary spot. I ended up promoting my own submission just because it was one I knew didn't have a pic and one that I knew I wouldn't have to check!
Then I seemed to have a lot of trouble trying to get them all nicely organized. What I always try to do is interleave the stronger hooks with the weaker ones, the shorter with the longer, and not to have two on the same subject or about the same country next to each other. Then I like to finish with a nice lighthearted one, because it seems appropriate somehow. But sometimes it's not all that easy to find the right sorting sequence, and this was one of those times. I guess it's partly because I am tired too. Anyhow, thanks once again for your assistance RB, it's much appreciated. Sounds really *cold* where you are, so I hope you have a good heater to keep you warm :) Gatoclass (talk) 13:57, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

NHRA list

I saw your questions at the Pump about the Top 50 drivers list. It seems to me that an article, National Hot Rod Association Top 50 Drivers, 1951-2000, would be about that list. It would talk about how it was compiled, who the authors were, how the choices were made, how influential it is, all that kind of stuff. Such an article wouldn't have the entirety of the list, but could certainly include examples of some of the drivers included, and why they made the list (number of wins, influence, etc.). Just my two cents. -Freekee (talk) 16:50, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Hello Royalbroil. Merry Christmas! The article Max-Planck-Institute of Quantum Optics, which I substantially expanded appeared in the DYK section. User:Stone also deserves credit for it. He created the article. Please inform about it in his talk page. Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 14:07, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

Barnstar

My first! Thanks very much RB. I wanted to make sure we had some good Christmasy-type hooks over Christmas, and I think it worked out pretty well. I've quite enjoyed doing it over the last couple of days, but someone else will have to do the next one because I'm about to hit the hay :)

Thanks to you too for being around to make sure the updates get promoted on time. We are getting a bit of a backlog ATM so I think it's important we keep getting them out on time right now, people seem to get very disappointed if they nominate and miss out. I'm hoping we can catch up later because we had a lot of noms lately but they seem to have dropped off a bit today.

Merry Christmas to you! Gatoclass (talk) 16:30, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your advice, I really didn't know where to put my concern. Everything in English Wikipedia has a strict process, so I must be careful when reporting something. I'm sysop of Vietnamese Wikipedia, where a user there upload Image:Vy.jpg and told that it's public domain in en.wiki. That's why I raise concern here. Thanks again. S&W Model 909

Smith & Wesson Model 909

You deleted my article S&W Model 909 while I was creating it! You never gave me the option of discussing anything on a talk page or shared how to contact you. Please slow your roll! You may be some hostshot admin who knows Wikipedia inside out & upside down, but some of us who are willing to contribute good data may not be so fast!

So how about some helpful mentoring instead of jumping the gun and going for speedy deletion at the drop of a hat? If you had paid attention to the timestamps, you would have seen I just uploaded the pic and made the article within minutes of your seeking a speedy deletion. You may not realize it, but wiki syntax is not everyone's native tongue. I cut my teeth on HTML v3.2 or thereabouts, and everybody and his momma seems to have a proprietary derivative ala UBB code or wiki-markup or some other nonsense.

If you dislike my (first) article within the first few minutes that it goes up, could you at least check it within an hour, if not a day, and see if I am working on it? If you have something to share, please use the talk page. If you don't, delegate an admin who does, as your speedy deletion tactic does more harm than good.

Here's to hoping I can create a good S&W Model 909 article with no further interruptions from trigger-happy admins.

DYK question

Hi. I'm not real clear on the protocol at T:DYK but does your removal of one of my hooks mean there was something wrong with it? If so, may I ask what so I don't repeat it? Thanks. —Wknight94 (talk) 12:11, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Sure! Royalbroil, you'll get a break longer than a few days. And, Blnguyen, you don't sound cranky at all. Unless AlexNewArtBot (talk · contribs) comes up something outstanding this afternoon (nothing at User:AlexNewArtBot/GoodSearchResult appeals to me right now... maybe Schloss Hellenstein, but it needs refs.), I've already posted my last nom in 2007 last night. :-)
I had extra time with myself this past week because I had a flu, and I couldn't have much decent sleep because of the symptoms. I couldn't work on the data analysis I was supposed to do as I couldn't concentrate enough to deal with spreadsheets, but I could edit at Wikipedia reasonably well bewteen naps. I feel much better now, and I'll go outside and play instead of nominating. :-)
My travel and work schedule won't allow me to wiki-contribute much in the next month or so. I guess I'll have to wait till February or March, 2008 to resume my DYK nom-bombardments. 8-D

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:JupiterRisingAlbumCover.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:JupiterRisingAlbumCover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 16:35, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Delete it at any time. I haven't messed around with fair use images for a long time. Royalbroil 16:51, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Hodag

The fact that I even mentioned Mishepishu may constitute original research. I was unfamiliar with Mishepishu until I saw the Mythic Creatures exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History, but I found its resemblance to the Hodag remarkable, though it wasn't noted in the display. --Scottandrewhutchins (talk) 16:03, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

I just did a Google search, and AMNH's website is the first to come up: http://www.amnh.org/exhibitions/mythiccreatures/water/myths.php . Apparently, "Mishupishu" is the more common spelling. --Scottandrewhutchins (talk) 16:05, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

DYK

I see that you have put the "in progress" tag on the next update as you update it. Consider putting possibly 7 hooks, not the current 5, because many of them are expired and DYK is late. This results in the left side of the main page being slightly bigger than the right. However, I think that is the intended result as the left side also has the featured article. Both of these sections are bulkier, unlike the 1 line news and history section on the right. Archtransit (talk) 16:24, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for all of your efforts on behalf of DYK and for noticing my hooks at all, let alone three them on two separate occasions. Orphaned non-free media (Image:JupiterRisingAlbumCover.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:JupiterRisingAlbumCover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 19:39, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

RE:Packers HoF image

Hey Royalbroil, I am planning on cleaning up the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame article and I had some concerns about your photo Image:GreenBayPackerHallOfFameEntrance.jpg. My concern is that this may not meet the standards in our image policy, since the logo itself is copyrighted by the Packers, and your photo would be considered a derivative work of the original logo. Now granted I am nowhere close to an expert on our image policy or copyright law, but I wanted to bring this to your attention, because if the article ever goes to WP:FLC, I am sure that this is going to come up. Hopefully I am wrong cuz I like the photo, but if I am right the photo probably should be removed. Thanks!
Gonzo fan2007 talkcontribs 23:46, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

My intention with the image was to take a picture of the entrance, not a picture of the logo. The picture is taken at the top of the steps leading down from the Atrium right behind the stadium. I cropped out the steps because I thought they looked wierd. Here] is the original. Here is a related image that might be able to be used otherwise. Royalbroil 04:23, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
Yeah like I said Im not expert on image copyright so I dont know. I think the other one may be better since the logo isn't the centerpiece of the work. I just gave the article a scan and I wasn't sure if that would be against the copyright. Maybe you know an admin or someone else that could answer this question? I just want to make that if we use a picture on the page that its going to be okay.
Gonzo fan2007 talkcontribs 04:32, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
Haha dont get me wrong, I love all your photos and would love nothing more than to use them all. I just know that there have been problems when someone takes a photo of a logo, where the logo is the main piece in the picture. I definitely think that this one would be the best, because obviously the logo is not the centerpiece and thus would be hard to claim it as a derivative work. I think it would be best to just ask an admin who knows this stuff, because I would support any or all the photos lol.
Gonzo fan2007 talkcontribs 04:40, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
No offense taken. I want everything to be uncontroversial and legitimate too. I have asked someone for their opinion. If he doesn't have an opinion, maybe he can point us to someone who might be able to help us. I have licensed all three images under free use CC-SA, so they can be changed at any time. Royalbroil 04:45, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

(de-indent)Cool cool, and theres no rush, I dont think The Packers are going to come looking for you or anything cuz you took a pic of their HoF logo :-P Hope all is going well and you had a good New Years, Ill be watching your talk page for any responses so Ill see if someone responds. Thanks for taking the time to figure this out!
Gonzo fan2007 talkcontribs 04:49, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

The image Image:GreenBayPackerHallOfFameEntrance.jpg would most likely be considered a derivative image of the logo based on IFD discussion for similar images in the past. The logo is the main focal point of the image. A broader shot of the entrance with the logo occupying a much smaller percentage of the image would make the logo incidental and more likely to pass any copyright issues. The note on my talk page said there were three images. What are the other two? -Regards, Nv8200p talk 21:26, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
This one is probably the best from a copyright perspective. Even in the uncropped version of Image:GreenBayPackerHallOfFameEntrance.jpg, the logo is still the dominant feature. -Nv8200p talk 00:47, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the responses. I'll attempt to get image deleted on Commons. Every other time that I listed a Commons image for deletion it ended up staying. Royalbroil 01:07, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Lyle Shelton article deleted

First thanks for the welcome.

Secondly the [Lyle Shelton]] article got deleted. Any advice you can offer about getting it undeleted? Lyle Shelton is potentially a significant player nationally with his joining the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) and likely to be a serial candidate in future. He has been front page news on occasion. Has repeatedly made the sates major newspaper, and national news services.

The person who deleted it seems to be a bit trigger happy on the deletes from comments on their user page.

Sorry, you must think I'm very rude for not replying. Someone else had added another message underneath, which of course disguised yours, and I only just noticed it. Deb (talk) 11:03, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
It shouldn't be up to me. I thought it was a clear-cut case of "notability not proven" the way it stood, but if he can improve it, it's no problem as far as I'm concerned. I thought you had dealt with it particularly well, and thanks for that. Deb (talk) 13:52, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, that would certainly be true if I was going to restore it. I suppose it's a reasonable way of going about it even if he's recreating. To be honest, I haven't thought about it much before, because usually the things I delete are straightforward speedies and they rarely get re-created in any useful form. Deb (talk) 14:46, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, but ...

I didn't create or expand guest appearance. All I did was rewrite the hook so it didn't read as if Clapton's guitar was playing the solo all by itself (I know people thought he was God at the time, but he wasn't ... :-)). Daniel Case (talk) 06:26, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Links to fee-based sources

Most of the fee-based links to the NYTimes are for articles from 1981 and beyond, which the Times has committed to make available for free. Some of the post-1981 haven't been converted, and I'll often include the link in anticipation of the changeover, even if the article requires a fee at the point in time that it was added. As a subscriber, I can look at a .pdf copy of the article, and I will never add a reference (with or without a link) without having read the actual article. For older articles, I am sometimes stuck in the habit of including a link to the preview, which often includes enough of the article to support the claim and to make the link useful even to non-subscribers. The source included here for Doris Day's rejection of the film role was a poor choice for inclusion with the link, as the mention was not in the preview, but deep in the article. As both you and I have indicated, there is no need to include a link, I just try do so wherever the article is available. Thanks again for your suggestion. Alansohn (talk) 17:01, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Tom's photos

Does Tom from Flickr want to contact me? Are the Flickr images free use so that we can take them? I haven't looked at Flickr. Normally, I think the photographer should download them. If we get permission, we need free use permission, not just "ok to use on Wikipedia". I need to read the image policy but I am fairly certain that a "you can use it on Wikipedia or just for educational purposes" is not good enough. Archtransit (talk) 16:58, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Sure, let me know. I do think that you should practice with the new admin school so you get used to your new tools, then you can start applying them to DYK. You actually only need the admin part to edit Template:Did You Know, the rest could in theory be done by an autoconfirmed non-admin. Images on the main page are automatically protected by cascading protection. You need to upload a Commons image locally to the English Wikipedia and give it a template, or give the image a template if the image is already local. Royalbroil 22:35, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

I have the mop but can you search the RFA meeting shown to find the bucket?
<font=3> Thanks for your support, my request for adminship passed 60/0/0 yesterday!

I want to thank Mrs.EasterBunny and Royalbroil for nominating me, those who updated the RfA tally, and everyone for their support and many kind words. To paraphrase a president ... I wish my mum and dad could see the comments made. My dad would be so proud to see the comments ... and my mum would have believed them". I will do my best to use the new tools carefully and responsibly (and you may be surprised to find that I have not deleted all of the pages by accident..... yet).

Thanks again, Victuallers (talk) 20:51, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

DYK

Oops, just noticed your comment to TT about "too many US articles" in the current batch, just after I promoted another article about an American!

All the same, a lot of the articles for the last few days have been on US subjects, so I don't think there's much we can do about that. One can't expect an ideal mix every time. Gatoclass (talk) 05:36, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

I promoted the last article because it looked like missing out otherwise, as a questionmark had been raised about it. I did a quick search for an alternative but most of the older articles are US based as well.
I'm fine with doing the crediting if you want to promote the update. Gatoclass (talk) 05:47, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Battle of Ronaldsway - mass grave

Yep, pretty cool fact. Its not very common at all for a location to remain untouched for as long as that of Ronaldsway. Having been to the Isle of Man I found this very intriguing as the whole island has been more or less influenced by agriculture, roads etc. and I don't think the situation was too different back in the 1930s.
