I've reverted your edit on the Greaser disambiguation page because if you read the article that Greaser (derogatory) points you to, you'll see that the article does refer to it as a derogatory term for Mexicans and is referenced. Barnstar

Thanks very much! I'm having a bit of an igloo day today, glad to know I'm doing it right. Yunshui  11:54, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Twinkle has its merits, but I mostly use that for tagging and CSDs nowadays. I use Igloo, which essentially turns you into ClueBot - you can see diffs as they happen, and revert and warn with a single keystroke. I made a few mistakes at first (you have to be very careful about what you label as vandalism), but now I'm completely hooked! It's easy to install, if you want to use it; give me a shout if you need a hand. Yunshui  12:57, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

If you have a few moments...

I've been trying for a while to find additional information to bolster the article on Chikaraishi (it's become something of a pet project of mine, despite being basically about some rather uninspiring rocks). However, I'm severely hampered by my limited (read: all but non-existent) comprehension of Japanese, asince the majority of sources are liable to be in that language. I note that you're a native speaker, and I wondered if you might be willing to lend a hand in locating further sources and information. The article is currently up for GA review, so anything that can be done to improve it would be greatly appreciated. Domo arigato! Yunshui  12:54, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Macrochelodina kuchlingi

You recently reverted an edit of mine to redirect Macrochelodina kuchlingi to Chelodina rugosa. Your reason was that it should be discussed first on the Talk:Macrochelodina_kuchlingi page. Please note this was done, also the name already has been redirected under another name Chelodina kuchlingi I was just completing this process. The species was synonymised with Chelodina rugosa in 2010, reiterated in 2011. Note that the species is listed as a synonym of Chelodina rugosa in the taxobox. Your request for rollback

Hi Solarra. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). Use of Huggle and Igloo

Hello, Solarra. I see that you do a large amount of work with Huggle and Igloo. Thanks for your useful contributions. However, I am somewhat concerned by the number of inappropriate reversions and warnings you make with these tools. You are clearly acting in perfectly good faith, and sometimes you have quickly realised your mistake quickly and reverted it (though not always). However, these tools need considerable care. Except in cases of extreme and blatant vandalism, you need to check carefully before pressing the button. Personally, when using Huggle, I always keep a browser window open, so that in any case where there may be any doubt at all I can check the relevant history there before returning to Huggle. This slows me down considerably, but that is a cost that needs to be paid for the benefit of making sure I get it right. As you probably know, rollback rights can be removed from a user who persistently misuses them, whether intentionally or not, and I sincerely hope that will not happen to you, as you use them to do a significant amount of useful work, so I suggest thinking about this and being very careful. Hi, I could wrong, but these edits (for example this one) do not look like vandalism to me. The editor seems to have doing apparently constructive work over a long period. Update of Emuellidae

Hello,

This is to inform you that I intend to update the articles on Emuellidae, Emuella and Balcoracania, and redirect the species articles to the genera. I also want to turn the usefull references into in-line citations. It strikes me that most current references are not particularly usefull, since they are general sources pertaining to the combination of Australia and trilobite. I will remove Holyoakia from the genera under the Emuellidae, following recent literature, but will discuss the taxonomic history of teh Emuellidae and mention this genusis moved to the Dorypygidae (which I also have to create). Nicknames

Would you please tell me what is defined as a source for nicknames? Such a thing by definition can not exist. An editorial by an AP writer can not, and should not, be considered a source simply because the writer writes the name in print. It is not uncommon for a writer to label an athlete with a positive or derogatory nickname never used before based on recent actions or performances. Based on that rationale, it would be okay to include a once used derogatory nickname that was included in an AP article. On the flip side, a common knowledge nickname may be disqualified from inclusion based on the lack of a "source."

This logic does not yield accurate wiki information.

The subject on nicknames needs to be better defined because inconsistent treatment is given to different wiki pages.--Jmurdock21 (talk) 02:36, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Anti-vandalism

Hi Solarra,

I've noticed you out-and-about today fighting vandalism — this is good, we need all the help we can get to keep Wikipedia tidy. However, I can see from your talk page and recent edits that you may be getting a little over-zealous in your efforts to clean the place up. There are a number of events in your edit history that are giving me cause for concern — to pick a few examples:

  • Here you slap a {{uw-vandal4im}} template on an IP user, despite the fact that they've received no warnings since last October, and have only made two edits (granted the edits were vandalism, but {{uw-vandal1}} and {{uw-vandal2}} would have been the appropriate responses).
  • You've taken User:Aliafroz1901 up to a level 4 warning, without any discussion, but his edits appear to be attempts to correct taxonomic information — I don't know whether he's right or not, but this doesn't look to me like a deliberate attempt to compromise the encyclopedia.
  • You tagged Mu Sigma Inc. for speedy deletion, because the article creator appeared to have a conflict of interest. However, the article does seem to make a claim to notability, and once I'd removed the copyvio and promotional wording, seemed to be an appropriate topic for inclusion — COI is not a reason for CSD.
  • You've been warning and reverting User:91.218.137.15 over their edits to Bailando por un Sueño (Argentina season 3), but the IP editor seem to be attempting to add information to the table — they may not be doing so correctly, but they aren't trying to break it.
  • The CIS debate at DREAM Act should have been settled on the talk page — repeatedly reverting with anti-vandal tools, especially when the user in question was giving reasons in their edit summaries, was very inappropriate. Vandalism and content disputes are very different things.

I could go on, but the above suffices to show that you may be getting a little carried away with this work. I seem to recall seeing you signed up at the Counter-Vandalism academy recently — who did you end up with as an instructor? It may be worth holding off on doing any more reverts until you've had a chat with them.

I hope this isn't discouraging; it isn't meant as such. I'd just hate to see a promising patroller getting into trouble for performing too many ill-advised reverts; people get their tools taken away for that sort of thing. If, per your userpage, you want to run for administrator rights one day, you'll need to do some work on identifying vandalism - WP:VANDAL is important, but so is WP:AGF... Yunshui  12:57, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

Let me address your concerns :-)
  1. For your first item, I tagged the Educational IP address with a 4im warning because the IP was just released from a 6 month IP block. I have run similar warnings on troublesome IP users in the past at several admin's suggestion.
  2. User:Aliafroz1901 was performing the same edits as an IP vandal was yesterday, posting minor 'corrections' into paleontology articles, that user was served with a 31 hour block and that was last night. Possible sockpuppet and/or block evasion, no way to be sure but I was playing it safe.
  3. Tagging Mu Sigma Inc. with CSD was after attempting to establish the notability of the company (which I couldn't). That coupled with the primary contributor being a COI account made me think it was best to tag the page with the CSD tag.
  4. Reverting this particular IP user was a mistake, I've since fixed it and deleted the warnings.
  5. The Dream Act article reversion was brought on by the edit summary, backed up by two other users if I recall. It wasn't his dispute with the content, it was the vandalistic nature of his editing that motivated my call to label that particular edit with a revert and a warning. This particular user then proceeded to change his IP to attempt to block evade and vandalize my userpage and 2 others. This one was definitely a vandal.
As a whole I try to be VERY careful with what I consider vandalism, which is particularly hard when trying to see what edits are people trying to improve articles versus what people are trying to vandalize articles with misinformation. Generally if there is an edit summary or at least any sort of reason to give the benefit of the doubt to the editor I do so. I always try to be fair in a judgement call on every revert I make, cause that is what the roll of CVU is. The trust I am given to monitor this encyclopedia is not something I take lightly at all. I respond to every single person who raises an issue with any revert I make, and make absolutely certain I can help them either complete their edit, source it, or whatever the issue may be. As a whole less than 3% of my edits are mistakes or overturned with what I am reverting as vandalism, and the mistakes I do make I very quickly correct. I am being mentored by the CVU and he has praised my attention to detail in my reversions. Thank you for bringing your concerns to my attention :-), I will redouble my efforts to be careful.

Solarra,

I am Wikipedia user MichaelCrawford, but I've been editing without logging in lately because I am having some email trouble that prevents me from resetting my password. I'll get my password reset before too long, and will of course always log in after that.

I apologize if you misunderstood my intentions when I linked to [my essay about Tsutomu Shimomura] at [Solving the Software Problem].

My Edit Summary did specifically say to see the Talk Page, but you reverted my edit less than three or four MINUTES after I submitted it, long before I had the opportunity to post anything at all on the Talk Page.

How about using the article's Talk Page for its intended purpose, by allowing those editors with an interest in the article to discuss it among ourselves?

I intended to post the Talk Page my reasoning for linking my essay, as well as specifically identify myself as MichaelCrawford, as I have been doing with each of the edits I've been making since I've been unable to log in to my account here.

That link was not in any way any manner of vandalism!

Tsutomu and I were very, very close friends for many years. Both of us being Physics Majors in the Caltech Ricketts House Class of 1986, we were frequent study partners as well.

I have no doubt whatsoever that I personally know Tsutomu far better than any other Wikipedia editor, and so can more insightfully convey to the reader what Tsutomu is really like as a human being. I've been reading all the online and dead-tree press about him for years, but other than Bruce Sterling's quote about Tsutomu testifying before Congress in sandals and cut-off shorts, I've never seen any written material anywhere that describes the Tsutomu that I know.

To quote from my essay:

"Ankle" and "Biter" are, I have no doubt whatsoever, what Tsutomu Shimomura regards as the two most important words in his powerful and completely unaccented grasp of the English language.

He uses that term to express his regard for the intelligence of gentlemen such as Kevin Mitnick who keep trying to get his autograph with such obsession.

"Wizard's don't do autographs, you Ankle-Biter," Tsutomu angrily and wearily explained for the ten-thousandth time. "Presto," said quietly without even looking away from his email.

"You're in Federal Penitentiary."

I will have you know: TSUTOMU IS JUST LIKE THAT!

The Mind Simply Reels.

After I save this post to your talk page, I'll post it also at Talk:Tsutomu Shimomura, then I'm going to revert your reversion of my link so as to put it back in.

If you have a problem with that, rather than dive-bombing my edits withing minutes of my submtting them, how about allowing the Talk:Tsutomu Shimomura page to serve its intended purpose, by allowing all who are interested in Tsutomu's article to discuss it among ourselves?

He could not possibly have read, or at least could not have understood what I actually wrote, which was a discussion of a novel and uniquely high-performance Algorithm that is suitable not just for Conway's Game of Life, but for many types of Cellular Automata.
For me to post to the Conway's Life Talk Page that I am soon to publish some important new research elsewhere than Wikipedia, as well as to discuss those upcoming results in such detail, at such length and with such care, only to have an editor blast it off The Face of the Earth withing a couple of minutes is, quite frankly, quite insulting.
I have been contributing to Wikipedia for many, may years and do not deserve such treatment.
All this is not to argue against arriving at a consensus regard the link to my essay about Tsutomu. It is to point out that you are mistaken that I have been posting promotional material. With Huggle you have to read things in context, and this clearly from my experience of reverting vandals would make me pause and read it in context when viewing rather than quickly hitting revert. Age of consent in India

The age of consent in India is now 18, under the new law signed by the president. Why did you revert my change?

read the source; it says:

"The law has fixed age for consensual sex at 18 years. Pranab Mukherjee has given his assent to the Anti-rape Bill, providing enhanced punishment for rape, making stalking and voyeurism criminal offences and fixing the age of consent for sex at 18."

"The law has fixed age for consensual sex at 18 years".

And do more research yourself, but please don't revert correct changes.12:04, 3 April 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.25.27.35 (talk)

Warning you placed on User:Tony Holkham

Edit to Mona's Queen (1934) shown by you in this diff, is not vandalism, and level 3 warning was unwarranted. Please be more careful and remember to assume good faith. The editor is new to WP, was spooked and concerned. He emailed me to discuss as I had given him a level 2 on the same set of edits. Reviewing the edits, I have to concur with him. -- Alexf(talk) 14:53, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

The user from the Ukraine

The user from the Ukraine has removed information on Cossack societies in Japan because of the radical views that Anglo-Saxons and Asians can not be Cossacks. But Maxim Krivonos was a Scot. There was a lot of Kalmyks and Buryats among Cossacks. There were Asians even among Vikings according to the archeological data. Lavr Kornilov had not only Kalmyk origin, but he had a Tatar (Moslem) grandmother. So there were not only different races, but different faiths as well among Cossacks. General Karbyshev was white and Christian, but a Tatar (Kryashen).

Thanks for the information, usually when I see a major content edit on a subject I know nothing about, I assume good faith and let it slide, in this case it initially looked like Vandalism, then he started making a bunch of edits adding lots of content so to me it appeared as if he was adding legitimate content. ♥ Solarra ♥ ♪ Talk ♪ ߷ ♀ Contribs ♀

The user 72... even removed information on Alexander Pushkin as an African Russian, who wrote a heterosexual poem about Mazepa, in his opinion. They recognize only "Mazepa" by Lord Byron as an LGBT poem. They hate Africans as heterosexuals and the enemies of LGBT, in their opinion. your removal of my article revision

Hi Solarra,

thanks for dropping me a line about your removal of my comments.

I think they should be added back to the article.

By their very nature, there cannot be any references, as follows:

statement (i) [in essence]:

'current concepts of hair growth cannot account for the continued growth of transplanted hair': explanation: a 'reference' for that would be a meta-review of all research on hair growth. However, the research presented in the article (further below) already illustrates the point that all those mechanisms don't explain why one hair from the same individual would grow in one site after putting it in there while others from the same individual don't. I think it is important to point that out because people mostly don't realize that all the molecular pathways don't explain that obvious clinical observation.

statement (ii):

there are no genetic twin studies for male balding explanation: I checked it on PubMed and Google-- be my guest, do the same! How do you reference 'searched on PubMed but not found'???

kind regards John — Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.36.198.228 (talk) 08:18, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
