Your message on my talk page edit

Please see User talk:JackintheBox#Walewijn van der Veen for my reply, and don't hesitate to leave me more messages!   JACKINTHEBOXTALK 12:43, 21 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Alternatively, when replying to other users on pages other than their own talk page, use the Template:Reply to to notify them of your message (users get notified whenever someone edits their talk page). For instance, if you want me to see your message on this page, add {{ping|JackintheBox}} before your message. This produces '@JackintheBox:'. 'Ping' could be replaced by 'reply', 'reply to' (or 'replyto'), 're', or 'yo' and they would all work the same. You could also use {{u|JackintheBox}} to 'refer to me' within your message, without the @ sign or colon. For example you could write 'Hello, JackintheBox, and good day!'   JACKINTHEBOXTALK 12:51, 21 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
Nice to see you're already formulating your article in your sandbox. Please note that inline citations are also needed. Regards JACKINTHEBOXTALK 13:10, 21 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Inline citations edit

Hi, note that when adding inline citations, according to MOS:PUNCTREF no spaces should exist between text and the citation, and citations should always come immediately after a punctuation mark, not before. Also, please see Template:Cite web to see how to properly format a source from the web. JACKINTHEBOXTALK 00:18, 23 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia sticks to mainstream academic and journalistic sources edit

I have reverted your edits at Waldensians because they're based on a 19th century sectarian revisionist history instead of:

  • what the Waldensians themselves have said about their movement,
  • what secular (and by no means Catholic) historians have found in their research about the movement.

Hello, I'm Valereee. I noticed that you recently removed content from George Floyd without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Your signature edit

Your signature needs to contain links as required by WP:SIGLINK. I guess that in trying to customise your signature you mistakenly checked the "Treat the above as wiki markup" box at Special:Preferences. --David Biddulph (talk) 09:31, 16 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your email edit

Thanks for your personal email about my deletion of the unused redirect. You're welcome - it's easy to make simple mistakes like that at first, so we're here as admins to help out or to clear up. We don't really use the 'email this user' function to message people, unless it really needs to be kept confidential - it's far better to leave them a user a note on their userpage. Or, for some edits (but not deletions), you can find the relevant edit in the 'View History' tab and click the 'thank' link to send the editor an automated notification. I use it quite a bit to acknowledge that I liked what someone had done, without actually having to go to the effort of writing them an actual message.

By the way did you manage to get your signature sorted out? If you're not sure, just reply here and sign with four tilde characters (~) and I'll give you feedback as to whether it's working ok. Nick Moyes (talk) 14:43, 16 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your help! Hope my signature works.

User talk:Vedlagt 18:47, 16 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Nope - still faulty, and not following our requirements. Simply go to Special:Preferences and at the frist tab, scroll down and uncheck (i.e. clear) the tick mox which says "Treat the above as wiki markup." Just put in your username, and it should appear corerectly when you type four keyboard tildes, like this: ~~~~
It should then appear exactly like mine, which is also unadorned with irrelvant markup, and should hyperlink to your userpage and/or your talk page: Nick Moyes (talk) 19:43, 16 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your help and patience. Vedlagt (talk) 20:17, 16 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yay, that did it! Well done. Remember to sign on the same line, not separately, and to indent with one extra colon when you reply to someone else. If you want, you can also practice pinging me from here. I'll let you know if I receive it. Nick Moyes (talk) 23:17, 16 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! DoubleGrazing (talk) 18:58, 30 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia and copyright edit

Hello Vedlagt! Your additions to Draft:Laurence Myers have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 21:34, 19 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

The article Laurence Myers has been resubmitted for AFC. He was a contributor to early infrastructure in the city of Philadelphia.

Three books have been added as references to his invention of the Rotary Oil Car as he named it. The invention was the first appearance of it's kind of a tank car on wheels in 1865. Thank you for uploading File:A portrait of Lieutenant John McGavock Grider. The image was probably taken in April or May 1918. (Courtesy, The Springs Close Family Archives, Fort Mill, SC).jpg. However, it is currently missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Vladlen Manilov / 09:33, 8 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
