Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations

(Redirected from Wikipedia:0.7n)

All nominations after March 3rd, 2011 are being considered for Version 0.9. We are still preparing templates and pages for the next release, but if you wish to make a nomination you may use follow the guidelines below for the time being.

Here, we determine which entries will compose the next offline Release Version, as part of the overall project of producing a fixed version of Wikipedia. This could be released on CD, DVD, paper, or some combination. Nominations here are ongoing, for whichever version is planned next, and nominations will be moved over to the next version page when it becomes available. Links that have a strikethrough are unavailable/defunct at present.

  • The upcoming release is called Version 0.9, and selection work has begun, using SelectionBot for the bulk of the selection work.
  • Before making any nomination, please check the bot selection for Version 0.8 to see if the article has already been chosen. We apologize for the inconvenient format at present.

These entries will be selected based on importance and quality.

Eligibility for inclusion in the next Release Version edit

As of September 2011, this has yet to be decided.

Entries that are nominated will then be considered for inclusion on releases of Wikipedia the next offline release version of Wikipedia, as outlined below. Previous offline releases include:

If you nominate something you have worked on, note it as a self-nomination. You may wish to receive feedback from your WikiProject before nominating an article here, or you may wish to list it at Wikipedia:Peer review. If the article is of high quality, you may want to nominate it for Featured article status.

The approval process edit

The approval process is designed to be simple, as is appropriate for a test release. Approval will simply involve one member of the editorial team reviewing the article using the criteria outlined above. The reviewer must not have been a major contributor to the article. You may sign up as a reviewer for the team here. If there are quality objections raised, the nomination will be removed from this list and archived. Once the objections have been addressed, you are encouraged to renominate the article. Articles deemed by the team to fail only on the criterion of "importance" will be listed at the held nominations page, for consideration in later releases. Articles that are approved will automatically be submitted for future general releases.

Disputes edit

If you disagree the decision to include or exclude an article, please use the disputes page.

For reviewers of currently nominated articles edit

  • Reviews should only be done by members of the review team (if you want to help sign up here).
  • The reviewer should not have been a significant contributor to the article under review.
  • Long-standing nominations are a higher priority than more recently added ones.

Pass edit

If the article under review meets the criteria for approval:

  1. Remove it from the list.
  2. Replace {{WP1.0|v0.9=nom|class=XX|category=YY}} with {{WP1.0|v0.9=pass|class=XX|category=YY}} on its talk page. See {{WP1.0}} for details about the parameters.
  3. List the article on Wikipedia:Release Version under the appropriate section.

Fail on importance only edit

If the article is of acceptable quality, but on a topic outside the scope of the latest release:
Go here and add the page to the list of nominations. Also, please vote on other articles.

Fail on quality edit

If the article fails to meet the criteria because of quality issues:

  1. Replace {{WP1.0|v0.9=nom|class=XX|category=YY|importance=ZZ}} with {{WP1.0|v0.9=fail|class=XX|category=YY}} on its talk page. See {{WP1.0}} for details about the parameters.
  2. Please leave a clear reason on the article's talk page.
  3. Remove the nomination from the list on this page.
Articles that are failed are automatically added to this category.

Nomination procedure edit

  1. Check to make sure it is not already on the previous release version.
  2. List it below at the bottom of the "Nominations", in the relevant section, by using "# {{article|NAME OF ARTICLE}} comment ~~~~"
  3. Place {{WP1.0|v0.9=nom}} on the talk page of the nominated article. If the talk page already includes the template, add the v0.9=nom parameter to the existing template.
  4. Wait for someone else to approve or remove your nomination.

  1. Iskandar of Johor (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) Self nominaion–nominated for Good Article criteria and peer review. Nevertheless, some editors were sceptical about the article's quality on various reasons--listed on the peer review, for instance.Mr Tan (talk) 12:46, 11 February 2009 (UTC) Now GA, and autoselected by the bot. 1. Coal ball (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) It's a good article nominee right now. I believe their notability, which stretches from 1855, makes the coal ball deserving of a place in 0.9. →Στc. 08:03, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Arts edit

  1. I Should Coco (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) Self-nomination. Class: GA, Importance: Mid. Number one album in the UK during the Britpop era. Yes - New school hip hop looks like a nice choice. A bit low on External Interest, but that's partly because other languages probably include much of the content within their main Hip hop articles. Added. Walkerma (talk) 18:20, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Television New Zealand (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) New Zealand's top free-to-air television corporation wwesockssign 07:40, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The only one that seems to look suitable is Television New Zealand, which is B-Class and has decent external interest scores. The "Television in New Zealand" article would be great to include if it were a stronger article; I reassessed it up from Stub to Start, but it still has some way to go before we can include it. The other two stations score only poorly for external interest. Thanks, Walkerma (talk) 18:02, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I just looked at the Television New Zealand properly, and saw that it is filled with cleanup tags. It does indeed look quite weak, so I don't want to include it until the cleanup has been done. Thanks, Walkerma (talk) 18:05, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Bluey (2018 TV series) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) FA-Class. Low importance rating, but it is a very popular, award-winning cartoon which garners tons of pageviews, as well as several related pages on the site. Oups, this package of WikiProject Wine articles (selected according to the criteria for context, relevance and article quality) was originally intended to be submitted before the deadline! Sorry about that.

OK, I've looked over all of these, for the "late add" section. I picked a few, mainly (a) articles good for context or (b) articles where the assessment was either updated since the bot, or if it seemed a bit out of date. I didn't just add articles without some compelling reason, though - things like the Alsace and Languedoc ones would be nice additions, but many projects could add similar articles, and that would bloat the list too much. Many of these could make it onto the next selection, though, particularly if Starts/Cs become Bs, and Bs become GAs or FAs. Thanks for taking the time to nominate these! Walkerma (talk) 09:03, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Reviewed thoroughly for Version 0.8.

Wine-related articles about basic aspects of wine and wine production, to provide context for many other articles

  1. Appellation d'origine contrôlée (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) Start/High. Important subject for all articles on French wine, comparisons to French wine, and wine classification. Tomas e (talk) 10:04, 21 October 2008 (UTC) Not approved: Still looks like a poorly referenced start; it really needs to be better quality to make it into Version 0.8. Can you try to improve the article? Walkerma (talk) 22:57, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Fermentation (wine) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) B/High. A major subject for explaining the production process of wine. Tomas e (talk) 10:04, 21 October 2008 (UTC) Approved: Agreed this is a useful general article, quite good quality even though it has a importance "score". Walkerma (talk) 22:57, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  3. History of wine (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) C/High. A major subject for completeness and general interest. Tomas e (talk) 10:04, 21 October 2008 (UTC) Approved: As with the fermentation one, a good article on a major overview topic. Walkerma (talk) 22:57, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Terroir (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) C/High. A major subject of great contemporary interest, context for many other articles. Tomas e (talk) 10:04, 21 October 2008 (UTC) Approved: Agreed. This may just squeeze into the autoselection for 0.8 anyway, but I'll add it in manually just in case. Walkerma (talk) 22:57, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Varietal (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) Self-nomination! Start/High. A major subject to provide context. Tomas e (talk) 10:04, 21 October 2008 (UTC) Not approved: Listed now as C, but looks more like a Start to me. Close, but not quite enough to get into Version 0.8. Walkerma (talk) 22:57, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  6. Vintage (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) Start/High. A major subject for completeness and context. Tomas e (talk) 10:04, 21 October 2008 (UTC) Approved: Close to autoselected anyway, this is a familiar term on a broad wine topic. Walkerma (talk) 22:57, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  7. Viticulture (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) C/High, assessment improved since bot run. A major article providing basic information on production of wine. Tomas e (talk) 10:04, 21 October 2008 (UTC) Approved: Already autoselected, I believe. Walkerma (talk) 22:57, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  8. Wine fault (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) GA/High. A major subject and of general interest. Tomas e (talk) 10:04, 21 October 2008 (UTC) Approved: Although perhaps a bit specialist, it is a nice article that could give some useful context. Walkerma (talk) 22:57, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Articles on major wine styles

  1. Fortified wine (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) Start/High. A major wine style and context for several other articles. Tomas e (talk) 10:04, 21 October 2008 (UTC) Already autoselected by bot. Walkerma (talk) 00:48, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Madeira wine (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) B/High, assessment improved since bot run. A classical wine style and of great historical significance. Tomas e (talk) 10:04, 21 October 2008 (UTC) Already autoselected by bot. Walkerma (talk) 00:48, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  3. New World wine (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) C/High. A major subject for completeness and context. Tomas e (talk) 10:04, 21 October 2008 (UTC) Would be nice, but WAY too low scoring on the importance scale. Walkerma (talk) 00:48, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Rosé (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) Start/High. A major wine style, for completeness. Tomas e (talk) 10:24, 21 October 2008 (UTC) Agreed; scores just below the threshold, but seems reasonable for completeness. Walkerma (talk) 00:48, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Articles on wine-producing countries and regions

  1. American wine (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) C/Top. The 4th largest wine producing country of the world, a natural inclusion. Tomas e (talk) 10:04, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Argentine wine (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) Start/Top. A major producing country with significant export presence. Tomas e (talk) 10:04, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  3. New Zealand wine (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) C/High. A rather major producing country with significant export presence. Tomas e (talk) 10:04, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  4. South African wine (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) Start/Top. A major producing country with large export presence. Tomas e (talk) 10:04, 21 October 2008 (UTC) All fall well below the importance threshold, I'm afraid. Walkerma (talk) 01:24, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Articles on wine-producing regions

  1. Alsace wine (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) Self-nomination! B/High. A classical and rather notable French region. Tomas e (talk) 10:04, 21 October 2008 (UTC) [reply]
  2. Catalan wine (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) B/High. A Spanish region with significant export presence and which have received much attention in recent years. Tomas e (talk) 10:04, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Languedoc wine (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) GA/High. France's largest wine region which has become more notable in recent years. Tomas e (talk) 10:04, 21 October 2008 (UTC) [reply]
  4. Loire Valley (wine) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) B/High. A classical and rather notable French region. Tomas e (talk) 10:04, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  7. Toscana (wine) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) C/High. One of Italy's two classical wine regions, and context for the narrower Chianti article. Tomas e (talk) 10:04, 21 October 2008 (UTC) All of these articles are a bit too specialised for inclusion in Version 0.8, which is a general release. Sports edit

  1. Rodeo (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) WPEQ mid, B-class, Polo, Horse racing, Fox hunting and Show jumping are all already on the list and rodeo is, arguably, of equal importance to Polo and Fox Hunting, plus of better quality. Montanabw(talk) 22:08, 21 October 2008 (UTC) Already autoselected by the bot. Walkerma (talk) 02:50, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Dressage (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) WPEQ Mid, B-class, Olympic Sport, just like Show jumping. it's definitely iffy in terms of inline citation, but no worse than the Show Jumping article, content is pretty thorough, take a peek. Montanabw(talk) 22:08, 21 October 2008 (UTC) Already autoselected by the bot. Walkerma (talk) 02:50, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Bodyline (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) Extraordinarily important event that affected international relations between Britain and Australia. Dweller (talk) 10:36, 11 November 2008 (UTC) Approved Score is just below the cutoff, but I know this was important, and I'm happy to accept a borderline-scoring FA recommended by the project. Walkerma (talk) 02:50, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Graeme Pollock (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) No South African cricketer currently under consideration. Cricket WikiProject has worked hard to speedily improve the article for this purpose. Dweller (talk) 10:36, 11 November 2008 (UTC) Unfortunately, Pollock doesn't rank high enough in importance to come close - only an FA on this topic could be considered.[reply]
  5. History of World Wrestling Entertainment (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) The history of the biggest pro wrestling company in the world. wwesockssign 07:46, 15 May 2009 (UTC) Scores low on importance, and only a Start, unfortunately. Walkerma (talk) 02:50, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  6. WrestleMania (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) The biggest event in WWE. wwesockssign 07:52, 15 May 2009 (UTC) Scores fairly high on importance, but only a Start. If it is improved to a B, we'll include it. Walkerma (talk) 02:50, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notes

  • All countries have already been included.
  1. Riyadh (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) A very important city in Saudi Arabia and was on 0.5. In addition, its well organized. Already autoselected - has a very high score, so this will be in all releases without any problem.
  2. Malolos City (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) The cradle of democracy in East Asia, the capital city of the province of Bulacan and is the capital of the First Philippine Republic. The article has lots of information and lots of photographic content. I added this, but in fact the article does need a good cleanup and copyedit. It would make a great topic for a GA! (Hint!) Walkerma (talk) 02:54, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  3. 2010 Pichilemu earthquake (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) GA-class article about an earthquake in Chile. --Diego Grez (talk) 15:04, 10 October 2010 (UTC) Excellent suggestion - now added. Walkerma (talk) 02:54, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It would make a great representative for a relatively unrepresented region. EricLeb01 (Page | Talk) 02:10, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't even appear on the list of articles, so I'm not sure what the importance is, but it is a featured article. Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 01:54, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Design 1047 battlecruiser (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) - plan for a class of of Dutch battlecruisers just before WWII. Not sure if this one is important enough, but I think the overview of the Dutch naval strategy prior to the war gives it enough. Has a score of 805 and is a featured article. Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 01:54, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Spanish conquest of Guatemala (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) - FA. Prolonged conflict resulting in the elimination of the last independent kingdoms in the Americas and an end to Mesoamerican civilization. Simon Burchell (talk) 11:31, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I enjoyed reading these articles, which are clearly of high quality, but they're just too specialized for a collection of limited size like 0.8. (BTW - My Dad (British) was on a Dutch ship in WW2, in the Merchant Navy.) Thanks, anyway! Walkerma (talk) 03:17, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  1. KSBJ (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) Significant to Christian radio stations, probably low importance though. Just feel it deserves more than just no classification. Rated Stub-Class for quality. Also, this is my first time posting on this reviewing board, so if this needs to go somewhere else please feel free too tell me. Thanks! I'm Flightx52 and I approve this message 22:04, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but it's a bit too low in importance for including in this limited-size release. See these stats. We have talked about producing a Houston or Texas encyclopedia, though, and it could be included in that. Thanks, Walkerma (talk) 02:55, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Mustang (horse) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) significant to history of western United States, mid-importance for WPEQ, B-class. Montanabw(talk) 21:28, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  3. Escherichia coli (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)/s> Top importance, E. Coli is an important model organism and is also a human pathogen, B-Class.
  4. Introduction to evolution (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)/s> Top importance, as Evolution, just more readable, Featured
  5. Natural selection (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)/s> High importance, detailes most important aspect of Evolution, Good
  6. Spider anatomy (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)/s> Top importance for WPSPIDER, B-Class. Sub-article of Spider.
All of the above were autoselected, with the exception of Horse care. That article does give a very good overview of many horse-related topics - we like such overview articles in these selections! Also, the scoring is lowered by the fact that other languages cover the topic in other articles; the number of hits on the page is quite respectable. Therefore Horse care has been added. Bergson, Schopenhauer and Heidegger were autoselected. The others all suffer from being Start-class - they seem to be important topics, but need some cleanup. Could you work on them before we do Version 1.0 next year? In the end I did not include Kyoto School or Taylor, because of low external interest scoring, but I added Weil and Being & Time. Many thanks (belatedly!), Walkerma (talk) 04:05, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Murder of Amanda Dowler (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)/s> High profile unsolved English child murder case. Child murder in England is exceptionally rare and is still talked about in the media 6 years later .--Lucy-marie (talk) 11:44, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Difficult one! It has a very low external interest score, but that's largely because it is mainly of interest to English-speaking people; the number of page hits isn't really high, but it is consistently several thousand a month, with occasional spikes. There were 4300 hits in one day, on the day Bellfield was charged. Normally I'd exclude this as too specialised, but with the trial next year it may have a resurgence in interest - and that is the reason I want to add it. I don't expect it to be in releases in 2012 onwards, but for now we should include it. Thanks, Walkerma (talk) 16:43, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
