100 DC Women

is an annual Wikipedia contest to celebrate the anniversary of the founding of Wikimedia District of Columbia (WMDC) on May 6, 2011. The goal of the contest is to create at least 100 new Wikipedia articles in the month of May, 2022, related to women anywhere in WMDC's geographical scope, the District of Columbia and the US states of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Participants who create at least four articles will receive a postcard from one of WMDC's institutional partners in the Washington, DC area.

Rules

Create new articles relating to women in the greater Washington DC region. 2,000 characters and 200 words minimum, with sources, during May 2022. Lists do not qualify.

  • The contest is limited to articles on the English language Wikipedia.
  • The article is newly created by you (i.e. not expanding stubs) between May 1, 2022 0:00 and May 31, 2022 23:59 (UTC).
  • The article should be at least 2,000 characters and at least 200 words in length. (excluding infobox, templates, etc.)
  • The article must fulfill Wikipedia notability criteria.
  • The article must have sufficient references; doubtful or controversial statements in the article should be verifiable by the citation(s) listed in that article.
  • The article may be translated from another language Wikipedia, but it must not be purely machine translated and should be properly copy edited.
  • There must be no major problems with the article (no copyright violations, questions of notability, etc.)
  • For the purposes of this contest, the greater Washington DC region consists of the District of Columbia and the present-day US states of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. The scope is purely geographical and articles can involve any point in time or history.
  • Articles do not need to be biographies. They can deal with any aspect of women in the greater Washington DC region at any point in time.
  • Judges will have the final say whether or not articles meet the above criteria.
  • Judges, board members, and employees of Wikimedia District of Columbia may participate but are not eligible for prizes or awards.
