Why do I keep getting 504 errors when publishing
Every time I try to edit an article I keep getting the error message "Error contacting the Parsoid/RESTBase server (HTTP 504)". I've tried this on multiple wi-fi networks and it still won't work. I'm not even sure if I can publish this here. Can someone help me troubleshoot? I've searched the internet and only found people who are trying to find out why their personal wikis are getting this error and (I think) server-side remedies to the problem. UppercutPawnch (talk) 02:27, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
@UppercutPawnch: This seems to be related to the page length, but I'm not sure. You might also want to ask that question at the technical village pump. Kleinpecan (talk) 04:33, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
@Kleinpecan: Thanks for that, I just asked it there with some additional information. Sorry to anyone mad at me for posting this in the help desk section, I should've looked before I leaped.
Did anyone see my response?
@Arch dude, well I believe that it does and if you read the article you will see. It is the third largest African American company in the United States and has won numerous accolades for its growth, impact, and focus on diversity. Additionally, in 1998, its initial five-year GM contract was the largest contract ever awarded to a racial minority-owned business by an automaker. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ashleymw78 (talkcontribs)
You'll need to provide prominent, independent reliable sources to back that up and to establish that those sources consider the company notable, which makes a case for inclusion in a global encyclopedia. Notability isn't established by advocacy. By "the article," I assume you mean the deleted copyrighted content from the company's website, which cannot be used on Wikipedia. And once again, you appear to have a conflict of interest - please read WP:COI. Undisclosed paid editing is a violation of Wikipedia's terms of use. Acroterion (talk) 03:54, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

Interwikis don't work in user space?
See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mathematics and my sandbox.--SilverMatsu (talk) 05:55, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
@SilverMatsu: You have to add a colon before the language code in the link (i. e., :fr:Numérisation de documents anciens mathématiques). Otherwise, the software treats it as a local interlanguage link, and puts it in the "Languages" section in the sidebar. Kleinpecan (talk) 06:41, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
You have to add a colon in every namespace, not just in user space. Talk pages and Meta-Wiki are the only exceptions:
On Talk pages and on Meta, you can omit the leading colon. An interlanguage link like fr:Jeux olympiques will appear inline in the text, like a regular link.
Kleinpecan (talk) 06:50, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
@Kleinpecan: Thank you for telling me. I tried it and it worked.--SilverMatsu (talk) 07:09, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi everybody,

Conseil canadien des normes
I would like to replace the logo on the "fr:Conseil canadien des normes" page with the new logo of the organization, which is already being used on the English version of the page, "Standards Council of Canada". I am uncertain of how to do this as the info box only seems to access images from wikipedia commons. Any help in updating this logo would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.MandatoryStudentAccount (talk) 12:24, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
The image currently used in the English-language article is here at Commons. -- Hoary (talk) 12:59, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
Hoary, MandatoryStudentAccount had updated the article and logo, but their edits were reverted today as promotional. This is probably a question for a Fr Wikipedia forum, such as fr:Wikipédia:Forum des nouveaux. TSventon (talk) 13:06, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
(edit conflict) As far as I can see, the image was sourced from a website and claims to be free from copyright restrictions as it "consists only of simple geometric shapes or text." However it may still be protected as a trademark, so you need to tread carefully when putting it in other language Wikipedia articles. The best place to ask about this is at Commons:Village_pump/Copyright, MandatoryStudentAccount. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:09, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
Ah, I see now that MandatoryStudentAccount is actually talking about the non-free (new) logo they uploaded to en Wikipedia and wanted to put in the article. Assuming that all the criteria at WP:NONFREE are met, it will be OK for the English article provided it is added without promotional text but, as TSventon says, the French Wikipedia may well have alternative rules. useless redirect on Preferment (Church)
Hello, how does one fix a bad redirect? Preferment (Church) goes to Clergy, which does not even mention the word, let alone explain it. From reading the definition in the wiki dictionary [1] perhaps Rector_(ecclesiastical)#Historical_use or Advowson or Benefice would be a better redirect? I really do not know enough to know which if either but I do know a useless redirect is very frustrating. Thanks for your help! (talk) 15:35, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

The Office (tv-series), season 5, episode 12
In IMDb it says that "The Duel" is episode 11, not 12.
Source: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1248734/
Hello and Welcome to the Help desk (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~.). I am afraid that IMDB is not considered a reliable source by Wikipedia, because it is user-generated. Victor Schmidt (talk) 18:11, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
IMDb counts the season 5 start Weight Loss (The Office) as one long episode. Wikipedia counts it as two normal length episodes. The official NBC site is unavailable in my country and I don't know which is more correct but we should continue to be consistent. This means that if we changed "The Duel" to say episode 11 instead of 12 then we would have to change a lot of other things. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:24, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

Not able to edit my post at WP:ANI
Hello. I hope thhs is the correct place for this question. I originally filed a report at the WP:ANI noticeboard regarding an editor who was engaging in edit waring and other violations of policies (here 2. The report received little attention, and l was made aware of something the user had done, that in my opinion made his violations more problematic and complicated the situation. I was not exactly sure what the procedure should be, but I filed a new WP:ANI report with a new title reflecting the new situation (and there described everything that had happened), here 3.
The issue now is that it seems Wikipedia is not allowing be to edit the new report (thd edit option no longer appears for me on ang device). I am still able to edit the first report and other things. Do you know why this might be? Is filing two reports so close together against policy. Have I violated something. If so what can I do (the site is not allowing me to delete or in any way modify the second report).
Any help is appreciated. Thank you. Skllagyook (talk) 00:49, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
@Skllagyook: You did an incomplete Wikilink, which is the likely cause of the missing edit link. I fixed the wikilink and now the edit button is there. RudolfRed (talk) 01:01, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

How to make my wikipedia page?
I want to know if I can create my own business page on wikipedia.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Brandforce360 (talkcontribs)
@Brandforce360: Please be aware that creating a new article (not just page) is one of the hardest tasks one can start on Wikipedia, and there are good reasons not to want one. That being said, you should closely review WP:YFA, which should guide you along the way. Victor Schmidt (talk) 08:36, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
@Brandforce360: Please review conflict of interest and paid editing. If your username is that of your business, you will need to change it to something more individualistic; usernames may not be that of a business. You may just abandon your current account and create a new one.
Be advised that Wikipedia is not a place for businesses to tell the world about themselves. A Wikipedia article summarizes what independent reliable sources with significant coverage(not press releases, staff interviews, the company website, announcements of routine business activities, or other brief mentions) have chosen on their own to say about the business, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable business. Wikipedia is not interested in what a business wants to say about itself, only in what others choose to say about it. 331dot (talk) 08:42, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
Adding information on former Nazi scientists
Why is adding information on Nazi scientists classified as 'vandalism' or 'not constructive'? They are literally documented members of the Nazi Party. — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talkcontribs) 15:40, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
Courtesy ping: User:Serols. Kleinpecan (talk) 16:03, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
I don't think these changes constitute vandalism, but they were properly reverted because you did not provide a reliable source. MB 16:36, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
A member of the party was not required to be a Nazi and you did not provide a reliable source. --Serols (talk) 17:00, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
A member of what party? The NSDAP? Wouldn't members of that party have been Nazis by definition? JIP | Talk 18:37, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
If they were only members in the period where the party had absolute power then it may have been for benefits or to avoid discrimination, not for political views. PrimeHunter (talk) 18:45, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
So, like this revert is not good. The OP merely added information already well-sourced in the article, as well as being named and sourced at Operation Paperclip. Per WP:LEAD, adding information to the lead of the article that summarizes the important points of the body is not only allowed, it's expected. The revert rationale, that the information wasn't cited, is spurious. While I agree that the OP's other two edits (which involved the rather un-nuanced additions of the attributive "Nazi" to the lead) weren't great, that one didn't need to be reverted. --Jayron32 11:58, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

Varieties of English in references
I've recently created the MV Missourian (1921) article, which I've nominated for GA status. One slight "problem" is that sources used are in American, Australian, and British English. Is there any way to correctly show this by use of the |language= parameter? The article itself is written in British English. Mjroots (talk) 20:08, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
@Mjroots: Maybe you could explain why it is a problem? Did you get GA feedback saying it is not ok? RudolfRed (talk) 20:13, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
@RudolfRed: - no, I'm trying to head off that one before it happens. The title of the book source has the word "color" in it, whereas the Br.Eng spelling would be "colour". I don't want to tag the word with [sic] as it's not "wrong" or misspelled for the variant of English that the book is written in. Mjroots (talk) 20:20, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
I don't see why it should be a problem. I've never seen a book where the author spelt out the different varieties of English used in their sources. DuncanHill (talk) 20:31, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
At en.wiki, |language=en is suppressed (because this is, after all, the English Wikipedia). You can, if you desire write:
Australian English.
British English.
American English.
As you can see, the language annotation is suppressed.

Banu Chichek
I need help with this article, 4. At the bottom of the page, there is a "TV adaptation" section. However Banu Chichek from the Book of Dede Korkut and from the tv series are not related. Only similarity is their names because scriptwriters took the name from the book as they did for many other characters in the series. In that case I wonder, if they should be seperate pages or is it simply enough to mention on the tv adaptation section that they are not related?
Best Regards,
Miriel--MirielTherinde (talk) 01:57, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
Interesting. IronManCap, are there actually sources in the article that says that the DE character is inspired by the Book of Dede Korkut character? The one in the lead doesn't. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:15, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
Banu Chichek seems to be an attempt to shoehorn two subjects into one article. It even has two infoboxes. It should be split into separate articles, each with a "not to be confused with" note linking to the other. Maproom (talk) 07:25, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
It seems to be an attempt to put Diriliş: Ertuğrul PLOT into even more WP-articles. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:33, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
@Gråbergs Gråa Sång, MirielTherinde, and Maproom: Yeah, looking at some sources, they don't seem to support an adaptation for this particular character, only stating such for Bamsi Beyrek and Princess Saljan / Selcan Hatun. Maybe we should split the article in two, or merge the 'TV adaptation' with List of Diriliş: Ertuğrul characters#Banu Çiçek. IronManCap (talk) 09:12, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
@Gråbergs Gråa Sång, IronManCap, and Maproom: Actually, I noticed, exactly the same thing was done with Saljan Khatun 5 and Bamsi Beyrek 6. Again, characters from the Book of Korkut Ata but not related to characters with the same name from DE series. There are no similarities in storylines between the book and series in any way, only the names. Therefore, they can't be called "adaptations". I think, if there is a source, it can be written that DE characters were inspired from the Book of Korkut Ata but the DE characters should have seperate pages. I think it will be the best to reorganize them as seperate articles like Maproom mentioned.--MirielTherinde (talk) 10:48, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
@MirielTherinde: There are sources saying Bamsi and Selcan are homages to the Book of Dede Korkut characters, so those are valid. This kind of style follows the example of articles like Jon Snow (character), although that doesn't have two infoboxes. Merging the DE and Book of DK characters into one article was Limorina's idea, I wonder if she has anything to say about this. IronManCap (talk) 10:25, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
@IronManCap: Because Jon Snow from the series "Game of Thrones" is a literal adaptation of the character Jon Snow from the book series that has the same named first book "Game of Thrones". Yet in DE's case, inspiration is not equal to adaptation. I think it is not accurate to put them in same page, just because the scriptwriters "inspired" and took the names from the book. Again, there are no similarities between storylines, except the names.--MirielTherinde (talk) 10:48, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

I just visited to read about ArbCom, and found this section Wikipedia:5-minute guide to ArbCom elections#How do the elections work?. CanadianImmigrant, your user name appears to represent an organisation, which is not allowed by Wikipedia and implies you have a conflict of interest. Please can you review the information I have posted on your talk page, User talk:CanadianImmigrant and change your user name. Mcguy15 this user won't have access to move the page, as you need to be autoconfirmed (4 days, 10 edits). CanadianImmigrant I have moved the page as requested. Joseph2302 (talk) 16:06, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
@Joseph2302: My bad, I should have checked that. Mcguy15 (talk, contribs) 16:17, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
Renaming an article?
I created an article titled The Workers Party of Britain but I've realized that it would be more fitting if it were just titled "Workers Party of Britain". Is there a way to possibly change an article name? Beesechurg 17:39, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
Yes, you can use the move function which should be visible at the top of the page? (Might depend on your skin--I'm most familiar with Monobook, where it's just after the history tab at the top of an article. (Relevant wikilink: WP:Moving a page) - Purplewowies (talk) 17:50, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
You will run into a problem, though - Workers Party of Britain redirects to George Galloway. I will go ahead and request that the redirect be replaced with your article. ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 18:02, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
Well, it actually looks like the article was deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Workers Party of Britain. So, I am going to hold off on my request. ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 18:08, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
Well, thanks anyways; let me know if I need to do anything. Beesechurg 18:11, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
@Beesechurg: - I would say two things: 1) Look at the deletion discussion I linked to. It took place over a year ago and it is certainly possible that the party has grown to be notable. If you believe that the party is now notable (see WP:ORG if you are unsure) and think that the deletion discussion no longer applies: 2) make a request at Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests. I would do this myself but I am not knowledgeable on the party and I think you are in a better position to determine notability. If you have questions feel free to let me know. Cheers and sorry for making this more confusing than necessary! ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 18:33, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
I've went ahead and made a move request. No need to apologize and thanks for all the help! 😀Beesechurg 19:53, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
Signatures of dead people
I want to know if I can add signatures of dead people to articles. The only help guide for signatures is "Wikipedia:Signatures of living persons" Tadfafty (talk) 20:52, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
modificarea paginei Meditatie Transcedentala in Romana
The page Miscarea Transcendentala from Wikipedia Romania (https://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mi%C8%99carea_transcendental%C4%83) has a lot of references which are not related to the subject and some references are not valid. However, it carries a detrimental image to one of the political personalities of Romania the philosopher Andrei Plesu. Despite my emails to the administrator Victor Blacus there is a will to keep the current "form".

Ill Nino Article
Can you Please help me fix the Ill Nino Article Please. (talk) 22:43, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
You mean, Ill Niño? What kind of help does it need, or what kind do you want? (Whatever your answer, I shan't help, because I know nothing about the subject. However, your clear description might succeed in getting help from some other editor(s).) -- Hoary (talk) 22:50, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
I looked at your edits and made several fixes.[9] PrimeHunter (talk) 22:53, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
