WikiProject Ireland is a WikiProject dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to the island of Ireland. This page and its subpages contain their ideas; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list there.

This project has been created in an attempt to:

Improve existing articles relating to Ireland,
Create needed articles relating to Ireland, and
Provide information in standardised format so that there is consistency for articles on places in, or related to Ireland.

Articles and categories relating to Ireland are extensive and work needs to be/is being done across a multitude of areas. In order to gain the benefits of collaboration, please update this page with any relevant "to do’s.

Get the main Ireland article to featured article status.
Improve at least several articles enough that they can become featured articles.
Aid the maintenance and improvement of the Ireland Portal and the Northern Ireland Portal

Every locality needs at least a 500-character stub article, built on top of its framework article.
All areas of historic importance need substantial articles.
The article on the Mahon Tribunal needs to be tidied up, verified, and fact-checked.

For a complete list of the progress in tagging Irish related articles with the project template, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Ireland/Assessment and their current statistics.
Since July 2007, when 1,044 articles were tagged and many were unassessed or unclassified, much work was been done and by 19 March, 2008, 12,705 articles were tagged with none being unassessed and around 1,000 being unclassified, most being stubs. By mid-2008, over 20,000 pages had been tagged. As of the end of November 2017 a total of almost 60,000 project banners existed, of which less then 3,000 were for articles better than Start and Stub-class, which between them accounted for 34,000 pages, while category-class and template-class pages amounted to almost 20,000. By January 2022 we had reached over 90,000 pages tagged, with just 3,500 stubs left to be priority-rated. Much work can still be done to improve the Start and Stub-class articles and increase the number of higher quality articles, including securing more GA and FA pages.

Adopt an article edit

Similar to the Collaboration of the week, but on a smaller scale, you might want to "adopt" an article. This would involve doing the research, writing, and picture-taking (if possible) for either a non-existent article or a stub. Of course, everyone else can still edit an adopted article, and you can work on other things too, but the idea is to find a focus for a while, to try and build up the number of quality articles the Project has produced.
