Ramakrishna, Bhanumathi (2000). Musings. P.B.R. Publications. OCLC 47225320.

I would like the pages that cover Alibabavum 40 Thirudargalum and Missamma / Missiamma. The films are not necessarily spelt the same way ("Alibabavum" is never used; instead "Alibaba" and "Ali Baba" are used). Since there are 264 pages in the book overall, I think one will not have much difficulty going through all pages. Perhaps it would be better to start from page 200? That is where Missamma is first mentioned, and Alibaba in the subsequent page. --Kailash29792 (talk) 12:01, 4 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Doing... @Kailash29792: I'll take a look. Due to time constraints, I won't be able to do a full read/skim of the 264 pages, but I can check around the specified locations and do an index search. ~ Rob13Talk 09:25, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Kailash29792: Sent. I only found three pages with relevant information. ~ Rob13Talk 21:17, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the pages so far Rob. I think we're now complete with Missamma/Missiamma. Regarding Ali Baba, pages 207 and 213 seem to have something. That's as much as I can see through the preview allotted by Google Books (wonder if there'll be a day when we pay to see the rest, which I'd surely do). Since I'm unsure if it's just those two pages, or a page range, can you please see and send me? With that, I think this request will be considered resolved. --Kailash29792 (talk) 09:32, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Davis (1955) is a book with xv+693 pages in total; did you really just want the last page? Zerotalk 12:41, 5 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Zero0000, Probably not. My guess is that the user who cited the book got the page number wrong, and cited the number of pages in place of the page number of the reference. I would be looking for a chapter or section on the history of diving. If this is not reasonable easy to find and of a reasonable size, don't bother, it is not critical. If it is reasonably practicable it would be useful as it is cited in several articles. • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 14:44, 5 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The Miller-Kobrick book has 432 pages (according to a catalogue) so I guess the same problem is there. Zerotalk 01:28, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I would think so. Same problem, same potential solution, same caveat. If there is a section on the history of diving that would be the useful part for this request. If not reasonably practicable don't bother. I mean don't go to the trouble of an inter-library loan to scan the relevant pages. • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 11:30, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Pbsouthwood: I can offer you the table of contents and index of davis1955 if you believe that would help you pick a chapter or pages that would be useful. Based on examining davis1955 and searching the 1995 snippet view, I'm sceptical that davis1955 supports the text to which it is attached ("which are more economical with breathing gas, important for deeper dives using expensive helium based breathing mixtures. Saturation diving reduced the risks of DCS for deep and long exposures.") The citation only came to nestle there with this edit, which considerably condensed the history section, removing five statements where davis1955 had been cited, but retaining the citation. --Worldbruce (talk) 07:10, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Pbsouthwood: Sent history chapter of Miller 1984. I also have Bevan 1996, but it will be a few days before I can determine which pages would be most useful to you (as with the others, 314 is the total number of pages rather than the page number that supports the content where cited). --Worldbruce (talk) 07:49, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Worldbruce, I recieved your mail with Miller 1984, and will read it soon. The urgency for the references has dropped, as the article has been promoted to FA. Thanks for your help, It appears that you have done my work for me regarding Davis, and I will remove it if I have not already done so. Since you have gone to all this trouble, and if you have the books in hand, could I request the tables of contents for Bevan and Davis, in case I have the need to request pages some other time. The names do come up fairly often, and a table of contents could help get to the relevant chapter much more quickly. If this is a hassle don't bother, and I am going to strike though as resolved now in any case. Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 14:22, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

William D Winn validation by Paul Trummel PhD (RPI ABD), PhD (UW ABD), MS (RPI), MSc (UK), BSc (UK), FISTD, FIOP edit

I worked with William D Winn for about seven years as a visiting professor completing a second dissertation at University of Washington. He chaired my committee. We discussed and verified the following subjects from my over fifty years of professional and academic rhetorical experience gained while completing my ifirst doctorate at RPI. --Trummelp (talk) 20:21, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Implications for educational technology Edit

Winn made significant contributions [citation needed] to the field of educational technology as evident by his extensive research in this area. The following is a list of eight suggestions provided by Winn (2002) for those researchers who are also working in this field, or for future researchers.[2] This list provides useful information[according to whom?] on how practitioners can reduce factors that may disrupt research findings and thus assist in improving educational technology research.

Instructors should not use metaphors that may confuse students or prevent them from understanding concepts. Computer learning environments yield greater results when conducted under a constructivist approach. Instructors should allow for mistakes and should not use virtual environments to teach basic facts. Educational technology is not a sufficient method for teaching. Educators should implement activities and other methods of communication into their lessons. Students must understand the task they have to accomplish and they require scaffolding to obtain their end goal. Educators must implement social context in the technology driven learning environment, and acknowledge sharing and collaboration amongst students. Educators should involve experts from the outside community in order to make their teaching effective. Educators should promote that the students make changes to their learning environment, as this will allow educators to obtain information about student learning. Educators, students, and researchers should work as a team since they all contribute to the improvement of educational technology research.

Validation can be accessed at http://contracabal.info and the National Archive, San Francisco.

@Trummelp: This page is for requesting access to offline or paywalled sources that you're unable to access yourself. Could you clarify what you're hoping to do here so I can advise you appropriately? ~ Rob13Talk 21:14, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Raj Bhakta Marg - PhD thesis edit

For improving Shrimad Rajchandra and related articles.--Nizil (talk) 20:25, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Nizil Shah: ETHOS doesn't have a copy (your second link). The institution appears to allow only library staff to access the digital copy (note the link stating "Repository Staff Online ... View Item" at the bottom). Cardiff has a copy, but they will not lend it out according to their policies. The British Library is listed as having a copy on WorldCat, but only because of the listing in ETHOS, so that's not useful. The only chance here, it appears, would be for someone to physically go to the library at Cardiff and access the source. Even then, it is a 200+ page source, so we could not provide a full scan due to copyright issues. You'd need to know what portion of the text you wanted. ~ Rob13Talk 23:01, 18 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@BU Rob13:. It is hard to know what I want without reading the thesis. But basically I want to have more information on life of Shrimad Rajchandra. I would have created separate article on the religious movement founded on his teachings (Raj Bhakta Marg) if I had more info on that too. Regards,--Nizil (talk) 11:41, 19 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure whether its the release of Fall 1997 (I presume it is?), because google.books doesn't let me view almost anything in detail. Basically, I need the pages about the wifes/offspring of the Safavid kings Safi of Persia (r. 1629-1642), Abbas II of Persia (1642-1666), Suleiman I of Persia (r. 1666-1694), and Sultan Husayn (r. 1694-1722). According to google.books, it should be the listed pages.

Seeking articles from various publications (all available through NewsLibrary) - for use in potential A. J. Gil article edit

In addition to their original publications, all of these articles are available through NewsLibrary.

  • "CHASING FAME Filmmaker is shooting 1st feature in Bayonne" (August 30, 2003) / The Jersey Journal
  • "Bayonne High School takes on a supporting role in movie shoot" (September 18, 2003) / The Bayonne Journal'
  • "Local director makes his vision a reality on the big screen" (October 20, 2005) / The Bayonne Journal
  • "HOLLYWOOD ENTRANCE 'Fame' given the red carpet treatment" (November 2, 2005) / The Jersey Journal

I'd like to know whether there's enough info in these sources to display notability for A.J. Gil, the eighth place finalist in American Idol's first season. Gil used to have an article, which was deleted after an AfD, but only two people voted in the AfD - one to keep, and one to delete. Jacob sheep edit

I'm struggling to find proper sources for the history of this UK sheep breed. Does anyone have easy access to:

What I'd like to see is the Jacob entry in Mason (seems to be on page 830), and anything on iconography, history, use or characteristics of Jacob or piebald sheep in Ryder; in the old edition, that seems to include pages 274, 400, and 512; I don't have even snippet view of the 2007 edition, so don't know if the pagination is changed. As with other requests I've made, no-one should go to extraordinary lengths to find these for me. Thank you all! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:27, 9 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Justlettersandnumbers, can you see this? One never knows when Google Books will be difficult, but sometimes a direct link will work (this did for me in a second browser). It's page 830 of the 2016 edition of Mason's. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 02:38, 10 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, BlackcurrantTea! Linking directly to the page with something like &pg=PA830 is something I often try, but in this case, no joy – I get the usual "page not available" message. But changing browser … who'd have thought that would work? Brilliant, many thanks! So now I have page 830, and find that I need page 829 as well … and not even changing browser will give me that. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 16:37, 10 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Justlettersandnumbers, it seems 829's not available via Google Books, even in the "enticing fragment of a page where the phrase is mentioned" view. Luckily the book's available at university libraries in various countries, so it's likely someone here can get it for you. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 19:17, 10 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Justlettersandnumbers: Index/ToC sent. ~ Rob13Talk 00:12, 14 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much, BU Rob13. If it's not too much trouble, I'd very much like to have pages 274, 400, and 512, which seem to be the crucial ones. There's no great urgency. Thank you so much.
  • Justlettersandnumbers, do you still need any pages from Mason's encyclopedia? I get the impression that p. 829 hasn't been retrieved yet. – Uanfala 13:45, 2 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's right, Uanfala, I still don't have page 829 of Mason. I'm also hoping that BU Rob13 (or someone else) may be able to get pages 274, 400, and 512 of Ryder for me. And if there's anyone with access to the Felius title below… As before, I would not want anyone to go to extraordinary lengths to get these for me. Thanks, all, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 13:55, 2 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I can get the pages from Ryder 2007 hopefully by Friday. As for Mason's, I only have access to it on the PCs of the local national library, which would not allow anyone to save, print or photograph it, but as the bit about the Jacob sheep on p. 829 is barely a paragraph long, I wouldn't mind retyping it. Let me know if this is OK. – Uanfala 14:12, 2 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Justlettersandnumbers, you can email me for the paragraph from Mason's. As for Ryder, I'll need a couple of days more. – Uanfala 22:21, 7 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Justlettersandnumbers, I've also got the pages from Ryder now. If you want them, or the paragraph from Mason's, you can send me an email. – Uanfala 01:20, 13 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Now received, many thanks to Uanfala! I'll leave this open just a little longer in case anyone happens to have access to Felius (below). Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 15:05, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Impact factor for the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists edit

I'm trying to find the most recent impact factor for the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists (the one listed in the infobox is for 2014), but it's behind a paywall on the InCites Journal Citation Reports website. I'd really appreciate it if anyone with access to the database could look up the most recent score. Respectfully, InsaneHacker (💬) 13:16, 9 September 2017 (UTC) --Respectfully, InsaneHacker (💬) 13:16, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Note: There are 2,500 journals with impact factors at least as out-of-date as the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists (see Category:Articles with outdated impact factors from 2014). I don't know how important to our readers it is to keep these numbers up to date, but if anyone with access to Journal Citation Reports updates one impact factor, they might as well update a few at the same time. Most research university libraries, such as University of Copenhagen, provide public access to JCR, although unless one is a student or faculty member, one has to visit the library in person to use it. --Worldbruce (talk) 14:25, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
There's the online version that I use to look it up, but it requires university subscription. I manually update the ones that I came across. Ideally we should keep those numbers up to date (just like we keep our town/city's population number up to date), but it needs someone with bot skills to automatically extract and update the pages. @Zigzig20s: In that case, Google Books has a preview of the book available. Maybe that'd help. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 00:04, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No. They won't let me read the entire book. Why can't we buy entire books for editors and scan them for their personal use?Zigzig20s (talk) 00:09, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the act of scanning and giving away a scan is regulated by the copyright law. If you scan a complete copyrighted book and post it to another person, even by personal email, you are entitled to criminal prosecution and a suit for libel. That's the law, and on this public page we have to obey the law. My personal workaround, for anything not to be found in the web (like this book) is to visit my local library, order the book via Inter Library Loan, and wait a few days or weeks. Alternatively many libraries offer an exchange of copied papers, including book chapters, but no complete books. --Cimbail (talk) 10:52, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Zigzig20s: AbeBooks has a used copy on offer for $3.56, including shipping within the United States. Postage to destinations outside the United States ranges from $4 to $10. That may be cheaper than ILL, depending on your library, and will be faster than waiting 56 years for the copyright to expire. --Worldbruce (talk) 13:25, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Inter-library loan might be the easiest way. I also think perhaps the 1% could take a pay cut so we can buy more books and ship them to editors. But I digress...Zigzig20s (talk) 15:50, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Re-entering request for chapter of book edit

{{resolved}} I ordered a cheap copy of "The Italians" by C. J. Shane on Abebooks, and closed my previous request. Then I was notified that my order had been cancelled, and when I went back to Abebooks, suddenly the price of all the copies of that particular book had gone up. My life doesn't depend on writing this article, and I refuse to spend more than $10 on an old book. But if anyone has a copy of the book, and can scan the chapter on Angela Carlozzi-Rossi for me, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I'm working through the literature on Goronyosaurus for expansion of the article. I've already started but significant materials on the history of the taxon are missing because of papers I cannot find.

The papers are listed by importance to the article, with #1 being most and #3 being least. Thanks, IJReid discuss 01:39, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Second one seems to be available in multiple libraries in Hungary. Not ones I usually go to, but easily accessible ones, most importantly Magyar Természettudományi Múzeum Könyvtára (either free or they've hidden the prices very well, open in work time only, catalog record) and MTA Könyvtár (cheap, open on Saturday). I've written down the data and may be able to get a copy.
Third one is unclear. ODR (meta-search) claims BME KK has a copy, but I can't find it in the catalog of BME KK, and, in any case, although it's a good library, I'm not currently registered because of their horribly high yearly fee.
Didn't find anything about the first one.
b_jonas 21:12, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your looking b_jonas. If you manage to get a copy of the second one it's greatly appreciated. I'm worried I will have to go to the DML for the first one however, such an old, obscure, out-of-print paper is probably rare nowadays. IJReid discuss 03:38, 30 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I requested the second one from MTA kvt. If everything goes right, I'll pick it up and send a digital copy some time this week.
As for the third one, it turns out that ODR claims that this document is found through NPA, which is some sort of inter-library catalog of periodicals available from the homepage of OSzK. That catalog says that this volume is available at the location "B11", which is probably code for a library and ODR believes it's the BME KK. However, when I click on "B11" in this NPA catalog, I only get a webpage with some error backtrace, and I can't seem to find any documentation on how this NPA is supposed to work in first place. (I'd give a link to the catalog entry in NPA, but I can't seem to quickly divine a stable URL.) So I'll probably have to call OSzK on phone or something. Don't have your hopes high, I don't think BME KK has this, because it's not in their own catalogs.
b_jonas 22:38, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Update: good news. The third article appear to be in MTA kvt as well, so I'll write up the data and try to get it from there. I probably just didn't see that before because I was lost in the maze of twisty little catalog entries, all alike.
Apparently in those years, the periodical “Atti della Accademia nazionale dei Lincei. Memorie della Classe di scienze fisiche, matematiche e naturali” is split to (at least) three parts: “Sezione 1a, Matematica, meccanica, astronomia, geodesia e geofisica” (ISSN:0365-0286), “Sezione 2a, Fisica, chimica, geologia, paleontologia e mineralogia” (ISSN:0365-026X), and “Sezione 3a, Botanica, zoologia, fisiologia e patologia” (ISSN:0365-0251), in each case those are just the parts of the title after “Atti della Accademia nazionale dei Lincei. Memorie della Classe di scienze fisiche, matematiche e naturali”, and they're still numbered “ser. 8” before the volume number. I've seen “A” and “B” journals before, but these titles are getting ridiculously long. And this is from the age when people agressively abbreviated everything, including writing only the initials of authors in articles themselves, so that journals use less paper.
b_jonas 22:58, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I've got photocopies of both the second and third paper from the library. I'll digitize them later this week and send them to you. I'll also hold on to the paper photocopies for at least three months.
The journal for the second article has double page numbers for some reason: ordinary ones that span the whole volume, and page numbers in square brackets that span only a particular issue. I don't understand why the second kind of page number exists, but the above citation refers to that, and we should use the first kind. Also, both articles have a fourth author not listed above. The identifier of the session (divisions of the journal to three groups of scientific areas) is actually "IIª", which makes more sense than the scary "2a", and this appears to be a three-fold grouping within each issue of the Rendiconti and within each volume of the Memoria, although that doesn't explain why there are three different ISSNs. So here are the citations I suggest using.
Augusto Azzaroli; Claudio De Giuli; Giovanni Ficcarelli; Danilo Torre (1972-03-11). "An abberant Mosasaur fron the Upper Cretaceous of North–Western Nigeria". Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Rendiconti. Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali (Preliminary report). 8. 52 (3). Roma: Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei: 398–402. ISSN 0392-7881. Plus 2 pages of photographic plates. Abstract in Italian. Corresponding author A. Azzaroli. A copy exists in Magyar Tudományos Akadémia Könyvtár. Abbreviated volume title for short form citations “Lincei – Rend. Sc. fis. mat. e nat. – Vol. LII – marzo 1972”
Augusto Azzaroli; Claudio De Giuli; Giovanni Ficcarelli; Danilo Torre (1975-05-10). "Late cretaceous mosasaurs from the Sokoto district, Nigeria". Atti della Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. Memorie della Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali. Sezione 2. Fisica, Chimica Geologia, Paleontologia e Mineralogia (Memoria). 8. 13 (2). Roma: Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei: 21–34. ISSN 0365-026X. Plus 12 pages of photographic plates. Abstract in Italian. A copy exists in Magyar Tudományos Akadémia Könyvtár. Abbreviated issue title for short form citations “Lincei – Memorie Sc. fisiche, ecc. – 1975 – S. VIII, vol. XIII, sez. II, 2”
Incidentally, the thin volume containing the third article alone still had double-pages joined together at the top of the sheets. I have cut these with a blade the library provided me. Although I've heard of the phenomenon of uncut pages in old bound printed books from written descriptions, this was the first time I've met it in real life.
b_jonas 12:05, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Damn, I really have never seen such a confusing maze of a scientific paper, and I've uncovered plenty of twisty mazes myself. Thanks for what you've done so far, and what you will probably do later. IJReid discuss 02:14, 5 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I photographed the photocopies and sent you email through Wikipedia.
Now what I don't understand is how a source from 1930 can help in the Goronyosaurus article, since it seems from these articles from 1972 and 1975 that they're just announcing discovery of the Goronyosaurus species, and this is based on paleontological evidence they found in 1969 to 1970.
b_jonas 17:27, 5 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
b_jonas I'm marking this as {{resolved}}Both papers have been recieved, and I fear the third won't be locatable. The 1930s reference is where the original material is described, and the species named, but I think the relevant information can be gleaned from the two you provided.
