Jack Jenkins confusion edit

Hello, all. I've found these two articles - Jack Jenkins (rugby player) and John Jenkins (rugby), which appear to be for the same person but have "distinguish" tags on them. Does anyone know the right of it? Deb (talk) 16:56, 30 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Esgair Moel edit

Just created this if anyone wants to pitch in and expand it. Deb (talk) 13:55, 10 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

John Elfed Jones edit

John Elfed Jones was the second chairman of the Welsh Water Authority after Lord Brecon and subsequently led the Welsh Language Board (I believe). His CV suggests that he should be a notable person but there seems to be little on the web about him. Anyone got good access to library sources who might help construct an article ?  Velella  Velella Talk   03:37, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

I agree that he merits an article. There are sufficient reliable sources available online to establish notability and make a start on an article. I suggest:
  • "The man behind the row". BBC News. 8 August 2001. – has biographical details that would be a good starting point
  • "Morgan attacks 'outsider' remarks". BBC News. 7 August 2001.
  • Grey, Chris; Herbert, Ian (8 August 2001). "Wales divided over 'spread of foreign language'". The Independent. London.
  • Foggo, Daniel (21 August 2001). "Welsh leaders referred to CRE". Daily Telegraph. London.
  • "Selling water worth 'hundreds of millions' to Wales". BBC News. 22 October 2015.
His autobiography could be a useful source, although it should be used with caution.

He was also President of University of Wales, Lampeter.[1] Not to be confused with the rubgy player Elvet Jones. Verbcatcher (talk) 09:07, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

I'm surprised there isn't already an article on Welsh wikipedia. Deb (talk) 12:17, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the sources. I will see what I can do over the next few days. Deb - I also looked at the Welsh Wikipedia and found nothing, I couldn't even find a page for Welsh Water Authority (Awdurdod Cenedlaethol Datblygu Dwr Cymru ) there, but my Welsh isn't up to writing articles there or translating from Welsh to English.  Velella  Velella Talk   20:09, 9 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
No need to apologise; there are many such gaps. Deb (talk) 15:02, 10 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
I've kicked off John Elfed Jones but it needs a bit of work. Assistance will be appreciated. Deb (talk) 15:43, 10 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
That is an excellent start. I don't know whether the archives of Welsh Water exist anywhere or whether they are still at Welsh Water, but there should be some interesting material there. I believe that he committed Welsh Water to spend some £25 million to clean up the Menai Strait from sewage pollution at a time when there was no legal requirement to do so - but I strongly suspect that won't be in the public domain as it would have been commercially sensitive at the time (c 1990). Purpose of this page edit

Hi, what is the purpose of this page? I assume it is a historical remnant. Considering Wikipedia:WikiProject Wales and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Wales exist, although after this initially. Plus many of the sections here are also out-of-date versions of what seems to be taken by Wikipedia:WikiProject Wales/Article alerts? Should this be merged or converted into something like a "list of ongoing discussions" (not covered by Article alerts) or something? Although understand merging would be hard to do, but nonetheless should a pointer or if possible some akin to a "superseded" tag be added to point to the WikiProject, I don't see any difference in scope? The to/do probably should be merged to the WikiProject one. DankJae 20:02, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

@DankJae: I think you're right that it's a historical remnant, as regional notice boards generally came before regional WikiProjects. You might want to bring this up at the talk page of WikiProject Wales (which I'm not involved with, as I'm not from there). I think I'm one of the few active watchers of this page and it's only on my watchlist because I unredirected it while making sure old noticeboard archives, etc. were linked to from various projects.
