Nominations for the Oak Leaves edit

Instructions edit

The WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves are awarded by the project coordinators in the name of the project as a whole; they are intended to recognize editors who have made contributions of truly incredible quality or importance in the area of military history. Members wishing to nominate an editor for the award should leave a brief recommendation below, taking into account the criteria on this page. The award is bestowed on all nominees receiving support from a majority of the current coordinator tranche. A template is commented-out in the Nominations section below. When consensus to bestow the award has been obtained, any co-ord can make the award. Simply change "nominated" to "approved".

The MilHistBot (talk) will perform the following steps

  1. post the award on the recipient's talk page;
  2. mark the nomination below as "awarded" with a diff of the talkpage post;
  3. add it to the historical list maintained at the WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves section on the Awards page.
  4. List the award in the next edition of The Bugle, the "Project news" section. For instance, if the award was made in February, it would be announced in the March edition of The Bugle. Over time, completed nominations (successful and unsuccessful), should be archived manually in the archive to the right.
  5. Change the nomination below to "awarded".

Nominations edit

Nominations for the A-Class Medal edit

Instructions edit

A-Class Medal nominations are initiated when an editor first achieves three successful A-Class nominations, and for every third subsequent successful A-Class nomination. The tally of eligible editors is maintained here. These medal nominations need at least two coordinators' votes to succeed. The first co-ord nominates the award on this page; this is performed automatically by Milhist bot after the co-ord closes the nominator's third successful A-Class nomination. The role of the second (and any subsequent) coordinators is only to verify that the editor is due to receive this medal in order to prevent accidental awards and check for any anomalies in the tally. Once an A-Class Medal has been confirmed, the closing co-ord should change the status field in {{WPMILHIST Award nomination}} on the relevant entry from "nominated" to "approved". They should also add a line below the first supporting comment, stating that they support the nomination and have approved Milhist bot to finalise the process (see for instance, this diff). Milhist bot will then do the following: (1) post the award on the recipient's talk page using the relevant template (found here) listing the articles for which the award pertains); (2) mark the nomination below as "awarded" with a diff of the talkpage post; and (3) add it to the historical list maintained on the A-Class Medal page. Finally, the award will also be listed in the next edition of The Bugle, the "Project news" section. For instance, if the award was made in February, it would be announced in the March edition of The Bugle. Over time, completed nominations should be archived manually in the archive to the right.

Nominations for the A-Class Cross edit

Instructions edit

A-Class Cross nominations become possible when an editor has achieved their fifteenth A-Class Medal with Diamonds. An A-Class Cross nomination is initiated when such an editor achieves another five successful A-Class nominations, and for every fifth subsequent successful A-Class nomination. The tally of eligible editors is maintained here. These cross nominations need at least two co-ordinators' votes to succeed. The first co-ord nominates the award on this page; this is performed automatically by Milhist bot after the co-ord closes the nominator's fifth successful A-Class nomination. The role of the second (and any subsequent) coordinators is only to verify that the editor is due to receive this cross in order to prevent accidental awards and check for any anomalies in the tally. Once an A-Class Cross has been confirmed, the closing co-ord should change the status field in {{WPMILHIST Award nomination}} on the relevant entry from "nominated" to "approved". They should also add a line below the first supporting comment, stating that they support the nomination and have approved Milhist bot to finalise the process (see for instance, this diff). Milhist bot will then do the following: (1) post the award on the recipient's talk page using the relevant template (found here) listing the articles for which the award pertains); (2) mark the nomination below as "awarded" with a diff of the talkpage post; and (3) add it to the historical list maintained on the A-Class Cross page. Finally, the award will also be listed in the next edition of The Bugle, the "Project news" section. For instance, if the award was made in February, it would be announced in the March edition of The Bugle. Over time, completed nominations should be archived manually in the archive to the right.
