Arogyaswami Pillai, M. G., B.A., (1880), Rao Bahadur (1914), Chairman, Municipal Council, Coimbatore; s. of Mr. Moses Gnanabaranam Pillai, at one time an Honorary Magistrate, Coimbatore; belongs to a family whose ancestors were in the service of the Tanjore Family as well as in the service of the East India Co.; educ: Coimbatore College, and the Madras Presidency College; entered Government service as Sub-Registrar, 1881; resigned and joined the Coimbatore Bar, 1887; connected with the Coimbatore Municipality as a Councillor for the past many years and now as its Chairman; Honorary Secretary, Town Hall Committee, Coimbatore; Member, Coimbatore College Committee; raised subscriptions for the Coimbatore Coronation Park, himself subscribing Rs. 1,000; contributed Rs. 1,000 for the Coimbatore College Endowment Fund; Rs. 1,000 for the Erode Municipal Hospital; presented a Library to the London Mission High School, Coimbatore; endowed a choultry for the benefit of the Indian Christians.
