Ramji, Hon’ble Manamohandas, Merchant, Bombay; belongs to the well-known Ranji family; b. 1857; joined business as a piece goods merchant at the age of 21; became partner of Messrs. Thakersey Mulji and Company, 1875; started the Kaiser Hind Mills in conjunction with Messrs. Vassanji Munji and Sons, 1879; became guarantee broker to Messrs. Rally Bros. 1882; became Member of the Committee of Mill-Owners’ Association. Bombay, 1891; Chairman, Native Piece-goods Association, Bombay, 1897; was elected a Member, Bombay Corporation, 1898; Member of the Standing Committee, Bombay Corporation, 1905; Chairman, Indian Merchants’ Chamber, Bombay, 1907; Chairman, Standing Committee of the Bombay Corporation, 1909; Chairman, Mill-Owners’ Association, Bombay; nominated as Trustee, Port of Bombay; represented the Bombay Merchantile Community in the Bombay Legislative Council, 1910; President, Bombay Corporation, 1912-13; presided at the 14th Session of the Indian Industrial Conference held at Madras, 1914; Justice of the Peace and Honorary Magistrate; took a prominent part in organising the Indian Mercantile Insurance Co., and the Bombay Swadeshi Stores.
