Faridpur is a city in the Dhaka Division of Bangladesh. On the banks of Padma river, it is known as the greater Faridpur in Bangladesh. Faridpur is one of the oldest cities of Bangladesh.

Around the 16th century, Faridpur was known by the name of Fatehabad. Sultan Jalaluddin Muhammad Shah established a mint in Fatehabad during his reign in the early 15th century. In Ain-i-Akbari time it was named as Haweli Mahal Fatehabad. In the 19th century, this town was renamed as Faridpur in honour of the Sufi Saint Shah Fariduddin Masud. The Faridpur district was established by the British in 1815.

At first you should go to the Kamlapur railway station,Dhaka. Then you can buy a ticket for Dhaka to Rajshahi train. And at least you can come to Faridpur from Rajshahi by Madhumati Express train.

You can come to Faridpur from any district of Bangladesh by bus. But at first you should come to a bus station which has a bus ticket counter for Faridpur buses.

Mathurapur Deul.
  • 1 Mathurapur Deul. A 12-sided Hindu temple of mythical origins with depictions of Hanuman and other art on its facade. It's estimated to have been built during the 17th century.
  • River research institute
  • 2 Poet Jasimuddin House. Daily 9AM-5PM. Childhood home of regarded Bengali 20th century poet who wrote ballads and poems.
  • 3 Pathrail Mosque (Awlia Mosque). This mosque next to a large water tank was built in the 15th century during the reign of sultan Ghiyasuddin Azam Shah and has ten domes and embellished terracotta design.  
  • 4 Satoir Mosque (near Satoir Bazar in Boalmari). Also of the 15th century period roughly, this mosque has been extensively renovated and unfortunately lost some of its glamour of antiquity. It's believed to have been built by Husain Shah during what is considered to have been the golden age of the Bengal sultanate.
  • Bir Shrestha Shaheed Lance Naik Munshi Abdur Rouf Library and Museum
  • Sheikh Rasel Park
  • Madhukhali Sugar Mill, this active sugar mill just south of Mathurapur Deul allows visitors.

  • Play cricket: You can play cricket in Sheikh Jamal Stadium. And there have also some stadium in Faridpur.
  • Play football: You can also play football in Sheikh Jamal Stadium and in Rajendra College's field. But if you want to play game in stadium you need a permission.
  • Martial arts: In Faridpur you can learn martial arts taking training at King Karate Bangladesh.
