I disagree. This is a list that will never be complete, and thus only needs a few entries. I'm going to vary them by field and school. Wikipedia is not a directory and we don't need more than a few examples. See Wikipedia:Lists_in_Wikipedia for more. --AW (talk) 16:42, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Listen, scholar:[edit]

And you know who you are(?), I pruned the possibly longer entry. Your explanation isn't a good one.SLY111 (talk) 17:46, 11 February 2008 (UTC)SLY111[reply]

First off, be civil. Secondly, what about the Wikipedia policy isn't good? --AW (talk) 17:47, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Listiness[edit]

I have to agree with A.W. that the list of recipients needs to be short and selective -- a list of examples. It would be futile to attempt to list every notable person who has ever been awarded a degree of "Doctor of Humane Letters," and a list that is dominated by one or two universities looks suspiciously like promotion of those particular schools.

However, I also think that A.W.'s selection of examples is unduly arbitrary. Rather than listing a few essentially arbitrary examples, how about providing singular examples of honorary degree recipients? Those might include (for example) people who have received a large number of "Doctor of Humane Letters" degrees (very possibly including the Dalai Lama) and degrees that were particularly controversial on the campuses where they were issued. Are there sources that would help in assembling those kinds of examples?

PS - FWIW, I have similar generic concerns regarding Doctor of Letters and other articles about specific types of honorary degrees. --Orlady (talk) 22:12, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good points. I think the case here is the person wanted to put a whole bunch of Yale people. There were 20-something Yale degrees before, so I removed the ones that I didn't think were most notable. --AW (talk) 14:58, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, obviously, I disagreed with the spirit and execution of your edit. Not the first or last time that'll happen here; and lighten up, wise guy...have a laugh at yourself.SLY111 (talk) 18:18, 12 February 2008 (UTC)SLY111[reply]

You were being sarcastic and snarky when erasing my edits, why would I be amused? I'm doing this is good faith and I don't expect to get condescension for it. --AW (talk) 18:38, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Although I do think the page is good how it is now. At least we got it worked out. --AW (talk) 18:38, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's more about the Divinity degree than there is about the LHD. Come on, learn how to edit. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.69.203.128 (talk) 00:06, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Doctor of Humane lettersDoctor of Humane Letters – all upper case, as per source content. These are not just ordinary "letters" in the usual sense. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:40, 20 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Note: I was allowed to move Doctor of humane letters → Doctor of Humane letters. I wish I'd attempted to move to Doctor of Humane Letters in one step. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:22, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
