  1. The 15th letter of Armenian alphabet, called կեն (ken). Transliterated as k.
    Represents:
    voiceless velar plosive: [k] in Eastern Armenian and Armenian dialectology
    voiced velar plosive: [ɡ] in Western Armenian

  1. A letter of the Armeno-Turkish script, named կէն (gen). Represents voiced palatal plosive: [ɟ]. Transliterated as g.

Usage notes[edit]

Primarily used before a front vowel; i.e., before one of է (e), ի (i), էօ (ö), իւ (ü). Modern Turkish etc. are represented as կեա etc., preserving the rule. Some authors write Modern Turkish palatal ğ with this letter, while others replace it with յ (y).
